We dined at the White Cap on Sunday, September 27, 2009, and found it nothing like the Aug 18 and Aug 27 reviewers described. We had grilled oysters and fried crawfish as appetizers, and fried shrimp and fried crawfish poboys. I believe I went mainly to find out for myself if their "fried shrimp were the standard frozen, pre-breaded kind," which I found hard to believe. Sure enough, they were definitely freshly battered fresh shrimp (but for my taste needed salt, pepper, and a little hot sauce). The crawfish were very tasty, and needed neither salt or pepper. (Funny that they seem to use different batters for the shrimp & crawfish, but I suppose theyve learned to "dumb-down" the shrimp spice for universal appeal.) The grilled oysters need a good bit of work - were a bit watery and could use a good bit more flavored bread crumbs to hold the butter & spices, & a few seconds more grilling to make it all toasty. As is normal anywhere, several oysters were extra large, and the rest were average to small, which my wife and daughter actually prefer. Even with a good Sunday lunch crowd, the service was quick, attentive, and very friendly. I was really surprised to find the atmosphere very nice and comfortable, since many rebuilds are cookie-cutter, low-budget affairs, and it was not at all like the added-on sprawl of the previous restaurant at the harbor. I found the gulf view from being a few feet above the highway much better than from the previous site.

Sorry WCR.. you are not the seafood restaurant you used to be. Although the service was good, the outdoor dining was refreshing, the food was bland, overcooked and didnt taste fresh. I had the softshell crabs today, and couldnt find the crabs for all of the breading. It was overly deep fried in a cornmeal that was not seasoned. I could immediately tell that they were frozen, not fresh. The "parsley potatoes" didnt have a bit of parsley in them - and they tasted like yesterdays potato leftovers. Your hushpuppies had 2 flecks of green onion in a ball of deep fried, chewy cornmeal. This was my Mothers Day outing, and I didnt have the heart to tell my son who saved up money to treat me to a seafood meal. He later admitted to me that his fish was just as tasteless. Better rethink your recipes... fried does not have to mean "drowned in a deep fried, hard, crusty, tasteless shell".... you have too much competition to continue serving our wonderful Gulf seafood like this. Dont think Ill be back anytime soon, and I doubt if I will recommend. What a shame.

Amazing as always! My 3rd trip down here in the past year and I always eat here at least once during my stay. Amazing food! Beyond amazing service! I love the waitress Nancy!!! She waited on me the 1st time I ate here in August 2014 and she was one of the greatest waitresses Ive ever had wait on me. I came back in march 2015 and I had another waitress and she was also 1 of the greatest ever plus that Nancy remembered me!!!! This time my waitress was Rita and she too is one of the greats of course! I got to see Nancy again also and she even had info for me that might would help me!!! (Im a terminal cancer patient) They do also offer some of the most outstanding seafood Ive ever ate in my 32 years of living and seafood has been my fave type of food my whole life. So if you want some of the greatest seafood youve ever had and have it served to you by the most amazing staff ever this is the place I recommend over any other restaurant period!! I hope to be able to come back again soon!

They should be called home of the FLAT platter. I was confused when I saw the server walking towards us with a small plate that appeared to be some type of appetizer. It was my seafood platter! A piece of fish (half of a fillet and not sure if what kind of white fish), a few SKINNY crab claws( it was crab season), a few oysters, a few shrimp ( decent), and a stuffed crab( the only thing crab was the shell). There were a couple of hush puppies and a few cold fries. The batter was thick and soggy and peeled off of the seafood. I could have done better with Mrs PAULS frozen seafood. The price was expensive for what is considered a child platter. Go to Mikes in Ocean Springs, where locals suggested. I can say with 100 % that this was the worse I have ever had! I would like to know if the good reviews were real or planted.

I dined at the White Cap Restaurant in Gulfport, MS, on Sunday. The place was new and the view was georgeous. Great expectations! I shared the seafood platter with my date. She ate the small soft shell crab (extra charge) and the stuffed crab. The stuffed crab was 90% bread crumbs. The fried oysters were medium/small, the fried shrimp were the standard frozen, pre-breaded kind that you find at the grocery store. Sad to serve for a Gulf Coast seafood restaurant. The fish (one piece) had a fishy taste and the batter did not adhere to the fish. ("white trout, caught locally". The boiledd potatoes were good, as was the small house salad. The raw oysters were small, not worth the price or effort. I will not go back. This is a tourist trap, not worthy of its location.

Went with a group of 5. Ordered the ahi tuna medium rare. It came out medium to medium well. No huge deal as long as its good. Well, it tasted extremely fishy and just not good at all. Another person I was with expressed the same issues. Our waitress informed the manager. The manager never came to talk with us and told the waitress to tell us basically its just us and not the tuna. The interesting thing was another person ordered the shrimp scampi and hated it but replaced it with fried shrimp. To be fair the sides that the meal came with were good. Also, the service was more on the poor side with long waiting and mixing food orders up. I guess if you order fried food you might have better luck. I do not recommend this place to anyone!

Unfortunate Fathers Day Experience On Fathers Day 2012 one of four plates ordered had a human hair. When the waitress was informed, no immediate apology was offered. After a few minutes the waitress removed the plate and later returned with a replacement. A half hearted apology was offered. When I checked out I ask the cashier about removing the charge for the bad plate. My daughter had lost her appetite. Immediately a member of management came to the checkout stand. The manager refused any further apology or any other comp or consideration. Needsless to say I will not return nor do I recommend the restaurant.

This is without a doubt the best restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life!!! There were nine of us in our group and absolutely everyone loved their meal, not even a complaint from our picky children!!!! I had fried shrimp and it was great, I cant say enough about their coleslaw it was amazing. Not to mention the restaurant is across the street from the Gulf so your view during dinner is beautiful! We were there on vacation a month ago and everyone is still talking about The White Cap Restaurant! The downside is we live in Illinois and will probably never get to go back!!! :(
