The atmosphere is pretty cold there; the waitresses ARENT CONCERNED ABOUT SERVICE, THEYRE CONCERNED ABOUT MONEY!! They seat you down, take your order and then creepishly stalk you from the counter. They take quite a bit of time to bring your food out, generally 30 minutes for one or two rolls of sushi, even take longer with deliveries. (Ive had to wait over an hour for food and I live 10 minutes away.) Ive been there many times because their food is generally better than the other Japanese restaurants in the area, but never again. There was some confusion about tipping today after a friend and I went out for lunch. I usually never carry cash with me and tip at the counter with my card, and she didnt know this. She paid with her card and thought I had cash for tip but unfortunately, I didnt. We didnt think we could do anything anymore since shed already paid, but we thought wrong. We headed to the bathroom together and a waitress came into the bathroom shortly after with our receipt, waving it in our faces asking us if we had had bad food, bad service, etc. She then demanded that we give her tips, even though we apologized for the confusion that we had about having cash on us. She claimed in broken English that she only got paid "one dollar, one hour" and made us go back to the counter with the receipt and stared down at my friend while she wrote down the tip on her receipt and changed the total, which, after that experience, we only gave her less than 10% for her hospitality. So, be prepared to have lots of tips or your waitress will run out after you begging for tips...

Terrible service!!! There is one person that works the front and serves as the hostess, waitress, and bus boy. She is not friendly, nor does she check up on you. At one point, I asked for a couple of forks and plates, and she pointed to them and told me to get my own. The food was ok. We got 3 bento box lunches and a combo tempura. My kids liked the shrimp and salmon teriyaki bento boxes, but my steak teriyaki came out raw. You get a small piece of beef that comes sliced. I told her that Id like my steak a little more done, and it came back very chewy - not to mention the server sneezed as she walked away with my plate. Upon return, she said she put it back on the grill and cooked each side, but it was evident that the steak had been nuked, as it came back in less than 2 minutes and with a ton of sauce doused on it. The sauce tasted good. The steak did not. There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant during our visit, and both had already been served food. There was no reason we should have had bad service or bad food. My kids kept asking why there were only 2 tables there at 12:30pm. Now, I know why. We did not even get a "good-bye" or "thank you" as we left. The server was busy watching a movie on her phone, while sitting at the front desk, which is right next to the door. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Decided to grab a quick lunch here one day and was horribly disappointed. As I entered a host was on the phone but never once acknowledged my presence. I stood there for 5 minutes until he just walked away. A younger server walked up to grab something and I had to get his attention for him to even notice me. By this time, another group came in for lunch - a couple - who were also blatantly ignored. Finally, Im able to place my order, a sushi roll, and am told itll be done in 5 minutes which seems FAR too short a time to prepare. I told the younger host Ill be waiting at a table in the back and to let me know when my food is done. I waited for 15 minutes. The couple left, didnt hear what they said exactly but they were terribly annoyed. At this point I asked when my order would be ready and was told it had been for 10 minutes and was just sitting on a counter in a bag. At this point Im so frustrated I ignore the fact they left FISH out without telling me, paid far too much for my roll, took it home, and bit into the coldest, frostiest piece of sushi Ive ever eaten. Worse than any grocery-bought roll Ive ever purchased. I will never return and advise every potential patron to stay far, far away.

TL:DR - food wasnt very good, wasnt presented well, poor service on top of it. The food was not very good. I got a lunch roll special and an additional roll. Spicy rolls were definitely not spicy. One of the rolls tasted much more fishy than I would expect for a sushi roll. The additional roll was one that had crabmeat on top of the roll. The crabmeat was laid on top with other toppings on top of it, and was not cut (though the roll underneath was). My choices were either to eat the slab of crabmeat and other toppings, or pull it apart to have a little with each piece of the roll. Service was not good. I placed my order online and walked from my office to the restaurant (about 10 minutes). I knew I would probably be a little early, but was okay with sitting and waiting for a few minutes. The lady at the register gave me a little lecture about getting there too quickly for an order I had just put in five minutes ago. Then when my food was ready she basically chucked the bag on the counter by me as she went past to another table.

Tried to order delivery while in hospital and used eatstreet app. I clearly put the hospital address on the order and they STILL dellivered to my house. Then the driver calls me and argues about what is listed as my address, even though I have an email confirmation. I call the restaurant and the lady starts arguimg with me about the first address and admits the correct address is listed. She not only talked over me the whole time, but didnt even apologize. She made it my fault and told me I needed to complain to eat street. I told her, I will never order there again. I then said either deliver it or be done and she said "I will tell driver to never mind". An hour later at that. Therr food is mediocre at best anyway so no big loss, but their manners and professionalism is terrible.

I have not met the owner, but he sure seems like a real winner. Make sure you present any gift certificate well ahead of time. I purchased one from "Dine Madison", ate and went to use it assuming gift certificates could not be turned down (gift certificate was purchased just a couple months ago). The waitress, who was very nice, explained that the new owner would make her pay the $25 if she accepted the gift certificate. Food was ok, portions were pretty small. Takumi or Muramoto have much better sushi. Ill never go hear again based on the fact that the owner is a jerk. Perhaps I am bitter, but I expect better customer service from an establishment.

I am another disappointed customer. And no, Im not comparing it to sushi in Japan. Its just very poor quality sushi, even by Midwest standards. A few examples: the tuna was anemic in color, tough in texture, and a bit "fishy" smelling (in an unusually bad way). Not sure what was going on with the eel roll, but it was extremely dry and bland and the eel didnt taste fresh. I am trying to compare Edo fairly, having been to 2 other sushi restaurants in this city. The fish was MUCH fresher at those places, so I know its possible to get in Madison. Bottom line - if Im going to pay sushi prices, I want something thats good quality.
