My wife and I went to Oceanaire on Saturday 4.2.2016. I was able to make a 8:45pm reservation with a 1.5hr notice. That was good. We got to the place, it was packed. We waited about 10minutes past our reservation time. That was not bad. We got our waiter, who was too busy to see us for about 20-25mins and he actually sent out another waiter to take our drink order. The drinks were ok... Not anything special. Then the waiter came after we got the drinks and apologized and took our order. I got the $76 lobster tail, my wife got the "famous" crab cakes. We got our food about 1 hr after sitting down. My wife did like the crab cakes, I was not so thrilled with the lobster tails. It was WAY over seasoned and nothing special at all. I was disappointed but still ate it. We also had a side order of mashed potatoes and they were ok. Nothing special again. We had their "Alaska" desert which was very large and filling. We left the place at about 10:45pm. The service was ok, the food was below average. At around 2am that night I woke up and ran as fast as I could to throw up. I could not believe it! I have never been food poisoned in such a high end place. I was so disappointed!! The issue persisted until 3-4am and then I took the whole day to recover. Over all, we will not be back again! We ate at many downtown places, this one is the absolute worst. Not worth the $230 we spent. Especially with a topping of food poisoning for me.

Oceanaire has been my favorite restaurant in the cities for many years. Hate to say it, but since they were bought by Landrys, I have to rate it 4 stars. Seems the quality has gone slightly down hill. I noticed some of the "little things" were taken away - no more herring in the relish tray, notepads removed from table, etc - again, just little things. They "cheapened" the grand shellfish platter a little but still charge the same if not more. I really liked the atmosphere when they were in the Hyatt. I understand their reason for moving, but a little disappointed with the new digs. Location itself is much better but I liked the old school feel of the former. Had my birthday there with about 23 people - the private room was very cramped, but everyone still had a great time. The staff is the same which is a good thing. Great service. We bring our kids there every now and then and even though the scene is dominated by suits and couples on the town, the staff makes you and your kids feel welcome. Note: my kids know its not Dennys and if they arent on their best behavior, no more i-pods, video games, etc. Overall, I still rank the Oceanaire as one of my favorites and will highly recommend to anyone. Just a little disapointed with new digs and ownership - they spoiled me.

A disappointing dinner for our anniversary. Weve enjoyed it more two other times, but in hindsight even had a waiter first time who was slightly rude and last time another who couldnt even joke about the ridiculous prices. This time our waitress hyped everything way too highly. "BEST spinach salad", it was NOT! Then she forgot our chowder, and brought (a free sample) just before dessert and it was cold and blah and the clams were tough. I had scallops with short rib ($44) and the 3 not jumbo scallops were not sensational, as I have experienced elsewhere so expected, and the beef was actually tough and sinewy. I asked the waitress to try to cut it and she brought over a steak knife. I asked her to use MY knife and she finally had difficulty, too. She replaced that portion with some plain, albeit more tender beef. No special sauce. How the chef could have allowed THAT to come out, I dont know. And then the free anniversary baked Alaska. The cake was so hard (frozen?) yet soaked in such strong liqueur and the meringue tasted like a cigarette butt in your mouth. Wonderful creamed corn - but $10! Wanted to give it a 2 1/2 stars. Our last visit, sorry!

We made reservations to celebrate our ten-year anniversary here. We went early, hoping to enjoy a bit of happy hour before our 7:00 dinner. We had to stand in an over-crowded bar area, where we couldnt order apps and had our cocktails spilled on us by passers by. When we were finally seated, half an hour after our reservation time, we got a tiny table wedged into what was clearly a high-traffic lane for the wait staff. Our waiter said in our first encounter that we may as well order everything at once, as he had two large groups to serve, thus informing us immediately that he couldnt be bothered with a table of two. During the rest of the meal, his behind was in my face as he bent to serve the large table next to us. On top of this, the food was horrid. I got a seafood plate that included three flavorless shrimp, a two-bite lobster tail that was underdone, and two scallops that were miraculously both charred and cold. We spent over $200 for a dinner for two, and the whole experience was awful. We will never again visit an Oceanaire, or any other place owned by this company.

Its the second time Ive been there, and I must have overrated my previous experience. It took them about 45 minutes to get us our food. I ordered the swordfish, which was small and undercooked. My mom ordered the salmon, specifically asking that they not overcook it. When they finally brought it out, after one bite she knew it was over done (I guess thats why it took so long). I specifically asked if the asparagus had anything on it (I like my veggies plain). The waitress said no, then they came out covered in cheese. By the time they brought out my moms recooked entree, my dad and I had already finished. They offered a free dessert, but at that time we had been there so long that it wasnt worth it to wait another 30 minutes. Ill never go back. Overpriced, average service. Next time I take my folks out, its Butcher and the Boar time.

WOW! This place went above and beyond for us. On December 17, we had reservations for 8 at 5pm to make it to a 730 play. Unfortunately, our limo was over an hour late and we did not arrive at the restaurant until 6pm. (we let them know of course :) ) We were seated promptly upon our arrival. Our waitress was fantastic. We quickly ordered our food first and then drinks. We were able to get out of there by 7pm!!! That is just unheard of. She (and the restaurant) took amazing care of us. The one thing I want to point out is the cooking of one of the steaks, which came out too done twice! Albeit, it was ordered along side a well done steak, but still. Regardless of this steak debacle, this restaurant still deserves 5 stars since they really did a fantastic job with us. I so want to go back again!
