My husband and I have been frequenting Porterhouse ever since it opened (8 or so years). As for the negative reviews listed...wow...are you that shallow that the fact the it was previously a different kind of restaurant, the HVAC was a little noisy and you cant fit into the booths is your reasoning for not liking it. My husband isnt small and we simply find the booth that works best for us and request that one every time. The food has always been superb and the service staff is extremely friendly and accomodating. On the rare occasion that we have to send a steak back, every staff member will make sure that we are happy. Over the last year since we had our son, the managers and the wait staff will even offer to carry him around while we are eating so that we can eat our food while it is hot. He loves to flirt with the waitresses and the other patrons at the restaurant. This is a home away from home...not your big "flashy" feel intimidated kind of restaurant...and it is just the way us regulars like it. This is the ONLY place we bring out of town guests. We LOVE it!

We had a reservation and still had to wait for them to find seats for us. The host looked super nervous and we all felt bad for him. The steaks were very tough. Three of the four people at our table could definitely cook a better tasting steak. Maybe the fourth person could if they got lucky, but its a 50/50 sort of chance. Fish special tasted weird. The only thing I liked were the drinks. I mean who doesnt love a key lime pie martini when someone else is buying it for you? I thought it was odd that both my drink and my brothers were served in glasses that didnt fit the drink. Like okay...odd, but whatever. It definitely wasnt watered down, and I know a lot of people whod go drinking there just on that fact alone. The waitress was nice, which is always a huge plus in my book. But yeah...felt like a huge waste of money food-wise, and I wasnt even buying. Also, the bathrooms were gross. I asked my brother how clean his bathroom was, and he rated it 8 out of 10 for cleanliness, so hold it until you get home if youre a girl.

My wife & I celebrated our wedding anniversary here on a Wed. night and the place was PACKED. We had a 7:00 reservation and arrived at 6:50. We were told our table was not ready so we had a drink in the bar. We were called for our table at 7:10 of which I thought was reasonable. Our waitress Tracy was very polite, top notch and a true professional. While my wife had scallops with garlic mashed potatoes, I had the petite filet with smoke house shrimp combo both done to perfection and there was nothing too petite about this cut of filet either. My wife said her scallops were delicious and the potatoes were heavenly. To finish off our perfect dinner, we split a Crème brûlée for dessert. Fantastic! Being seasoned fine restaurant connoisseurs, we can honestly say the Porterhouse Steak & Seafood hit a home run with us. This is old school fine steakhouse dining at its best. Maybe a tad on the pricey side but worth it.. Thank you again Tracy for the fine dining experience, we will be back very soon!

For the price of the food here, you can make much better food at home. I understand restaurants like this are for a night out, but the food here wasnt all that good and the best thing I ate was a salad which I will admit, was really tasty. The steak was just warm like its been sitting out on a hotplate for 15 minutes. The waitress we had was some short haired blonde lady that really had a drill seargant attitude in her. Sorry, but when I go to a restaurant, I dont want to feel rushed and that is exactly how I felt at this place. Horrible experience, and I will not go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. I wouldnt even consider this a 4 star restaurant, its more like a 3 star restaurant. There are much better restaurants elsewhere. Avoid, unless you dont mind being rushed or mediocre poultry and steak. Hell, even Chilis has better steak, so does Outback.

I can only speak based on the experience I had, which was phenomenal. My fiance and I went to Porterhouse for an early Valentines Day dinner and it was honestly the best steak Ive ever had in my entire life. Ive been craving it ever since! Both our steaks were so delicious and we were very pleased with the experience. Our server was a woman, I wish I could remember her name because she was really friendly and funny and made our date night even better. Not too pushy like some servers can be, just a genuinely nice person. I cant wait for our next visit here!

I live in the area and finally decided to try the Porterhouse, I should have waited longer. The food was average at best, the actual building looks like an old converted fast food restaurant. The HVAC system was very loud and you could actually feel the vibrations from the system when it was running. The booths are cramped and the actual dining area is very small. Why people "love" this place blows my mind. On a positive note our waitress Tracy was excellent. If youre from out of town and looking for a real steakhouse check out the St.Paul Grill or Mannys

Visiting from New York and stopped in here with my wife for dinner since we are visiting family here in Little Canada. Cocktails were great and the spinach and artichoke dip was fantastic! We each had a 9oz filet (medium and medium rare) both cooked perfectly. I had the combo that came with a wallet filet which was cooked well but was cold when it hit the table. I was probably more disappointed then anyone living here would have been since I can get a steak in NY but cant get Walleye anywhere! Great place to take a date and celebrate with loved ones.

I am somewhat surprised by the negative reviews. I have been to the Porterhouse twice in the past couple months and at least six times in the past few years. My experience has been extremely good every time. I have been seated at both the bar and in the dining room. Last visit we ate at the bar and the bartenders were great. I usually order Filet Mignon or Surf & Turf. The steaks are always tender and done perfectly. I consider Porterhouse to be one of best restaurants on the north side of the Twin Cities. Highly recommended. Expensive but worth it.

Salmon was dry, tough (yes tough) and tasteless. My mistake for ordering fish at a steakhouse??? Also, there seems to be a restaurant-wide effort to hide prices. Waitress omits prices when explaining specials. Also, offers sauces for steaks (my wifes entrée) but does not mention an up-charge. Martini list on menu does not show prices. The last straw was when the bill for my entrée was more than the price shown on the menu. Waitress agreed there was a price discrepancy but had no idea why. Other than the above, service was prompt and friendly.
