The food is excellent in quality, and the sushi itself uses quality fresh fish. Normally I would recommend a place like this in a heartbeat except for the recent dining experience tonight. The wait-time was horrendous between ordered dishes, with the wait time approaching 35-45 minutes between dishes, in which I quite literally saw people order, get served, eat, pay, and leave multiple times in the period we waited for our next course. Between that and the rather small portions where constant orders are nye required in order to get ones fill it just made a rather poor combination. Yet this alone is understandable as the place was getting pretty busy and not what ruined the experience in and of itself. The issue being the stores manager (who was also our server) accused my father and I, who I was treating to a nice Fathers Day meal, of swearing and using foul language, upon receiving the supposed accusation from one of his staff members who we dealt with only briefly. Further he did this by delivering us the bill in the middle of the meal and essentially telling us to leave the restaurant while we still had another order under way (which you can thank those 45 minute wait times for!). When I disputed the truth of the accusation he called me a liar to my face. This not only ruined an otherwise pleasant meal (if one with a long wait), but change the environment to a hostile and aggressive one where I no longer felt welcome as a guest. Certainly not a location where I would go again. Especially not when I am paying $27.00 dollars a plate. To the servers/managers credit he did comp something like 15% of the bill, in an attempt to make it right but even still the mood and the evening was ruined. Over all? One out of five stars. Unless you want to have the chance to get called a liar to your face and insulted, avoid this place like the plague.

I am not a review writer, however, 3 loads of laundry later and one very sick family on our way to recovery, does make me want to share my experience at Aji in Hopkins, MN. We were attrached to Aji by Groupon and thought that after reading reviews of the buffet being full of deep fried "sushi", and sorta thinking wed pass on a deal...we then thought that maybe for $17 (feeding a family of 3) wed be willing to experience a buffet, so we took a shot - I mean how bad could it be right? As I sit next to my very sick child I am only waiting until Aji opens for business tomorrow, to let them know that MDH has been called and to IN PERSON, know that serving dirty food to a family is really not OK. We took a risk on what we thought was a good deal, but are very regretful in our choice. My rank of "1" for food is only to allow for better visibility of this review. Please do not go to Aji, or if you do, just dont eat their food. Unless you are trying to quickly lose weight. Thanks for reading.

The food is FANTASTIC. Amazing sushi, fried rice and other apps, however. the service is terrible. I have been there a few times; the last time I was there, a friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant and received the worst service ever, even though they were dead and had no one else around to cater to! After a while of waiting for some food, any food, we were asked if we wanted to wait for our appetizers or get our sushi since that came out first - Im sorry what? - we ordered apps FIRST as soon as you came to our table and never received them; they came out along with our main meal. I ordered another glass of wine, never received it. When I called the next day to complain, they told me they had no such thing as a manager or owner to complain to. Definitely go as the food is really worth it, but know ahead of time your server may be in a bad mood and forget to provide you with an "ok" service.

Over priced for quality the of food!!! I only gave this restaurant a 2 star because the service was good. If I was going to rate the quality of the food, it would not even get a star because it was gross. I had the Aji Summer roll and the unagi nigiri for lunch which cost over $20.00! The Summer Roll was mushy and poorly wrapped. The unagi was put together sloppy and falling apart when I tried to pick it up. For the price of the items I ordered, I expected better quality. In other words, the quality of the food is not comparable to the price. If I were going to compare this restaurant to another sushi place in the Twin Cities, I would say it is very similar to Akita, an all you can eat sushi restaurant in Woodbury, MN. For the price, I expected the quality to be right there with Sushi Tango in Uptown Mpls, MN. I would never go there again.

Went there during Happy Hour (starts 9pm on Friday night), and ordered the Catapillar roll, along with a shot of warm sake (hoshi), california rolls, vegetable tempura and yakitori. The catapillar roll (avacado topped rolls with eel and cucumber, topped with eel sauce) was absolutely astounding. Its the kind of food that gives you little happy shivers from the wonderful blend of ingredients. The cucumber gave it a very delightful crunch, while the sauce provided just the right flavors paired with the eel, and the avacado gave it a wonderful creamy texture (Im not normally an avacado fan). Absolutely delicious, and at night/evenings, the ambiance cannot be beat - its nothing like it is during the day.

OK Sushi, but my issue with them is of different nature. I have purchased Groupon, Large chefs sushi tray, and it was a hustle to get it scheduled, because any time I needed they claimed they were to busy to accept the order(I drove by there they were empty), so I finally had to send my wife there to pick it up. Anyways, being that my wife pick it up, she did not noticed that on $69 dollar groupon she got charged tax on the full value(believe $169) not sure, so over $12 of tax, on top of which she even tip them. After doing some research I found out that in MN retailers should charge you tax only on the amount you paid not full value.

Aji is a gem. I have to admit at first I was skeptical about a sushi place Hopkins, MN. My husband and I went last summer just after we had moved to back Minneapolis, and although weve been to quite a few other sushi places around the city since then, none of them are as good as Aji. I am always delighted by their food, service and presentation. The sushi is lovingly crafted, and beautifully plated. Each bite has that kind of flavor and texture and freshness that make you pause and savor the experience. Their sushi buffet is a huge hit at lunch, but the best things on the menu are their specialty rolls.

I am not a sushi person, but I brought my mother and my boyfriend for their enjoyment. They each had the Sushi buffet, which they liked, and I tried a deep-fried sushi roll and it was absolutely wonderful. I had the Crusted Salmon, which was simply OK on its own, but it came with sides that, when combined, made it a nice meal. The atmosphere was superb, the service was so-so. Oh, and on the buffet, they have this apple/mango fruit salad that looks like coleslaw, Amazing.
