Theres a reason the wait can be sometimes very long, because this is the best place for breakfast in the south metro and everyone knows it. One step inside the wood and homey decor will sweep you away to fond memories. Then the food reminds me of my grandmas after a hard morning of milking the cows, only better. Sorry grandma! Ive never had a problem here and every person that Ive recommended them to cant thank me enough. Some of the food is a bit fatty, but they also have food that will please even the craziest new age diet queens. Id say do a few situps and go wild. Get bacon in your cakes, youll thank me later. You have to go back to the basics and do food the right way that great grandma and grandma made and the right way is sometimes fatty. Thats flavor country! Breakfast isnt always hard, but they go above and beyond with great flavors, recipes, and taking the time to do it the right way. Give me a soufflé omelet over the flat chain junk done fast any day! Oh yeah, REAL maple syrup has less viscosity than the mass produced junk many like April have become accustomed to. This is one of the last bastions of the REAL inside the metro, let them sweep you away to a simpler time.

I havent been to an Original Pancake House for several years; the last one I ate at was in Champaign, Illinois, in 2002 and it was fantastic. And frankly not many places stand up to the test of time these days, so I was a little leery of what the experience would be like after more than a decade away from this small chain restaurant. I need not have worried. Their signature Apple Pancake was as delicious as ever. It was hot and covered with perfectly cooked apples with their wonderfully gooey cinnamon glaze. The bacon was thick, and perfectly cooked, and the coffee just kept coming. My server was fantastic; a nice balance of attentive service but not hovering. And she did not wait until I had just taken a bite of food to ask if everything was okay (one of the most annoying things about eating out these days - you would almost think that it is part of the training for restaurant servers that they learn to gauge exactly the wrong moment to check-in with the customer). My server was absolutely wonderful and so was the food. I will most certainly add the Edina Original Pancake House on W 70th to my weekend (or whenever I want really good pancakes) go to places.

Well I am sitting outside of the pancake house as I write this on my blackberry. Having been here before, the food is pretty good-but it is mostly pancakes and breakfast food. You dont have to be Wolfgang Puck to pull off decent breakfast food. That being said, they do have all the "exotic" fruit and misc. Topped pancakes, crepes, monster waffles. I once saw the apple pie pancakes which both terrify me and attract the rumblings of my tummy. They look like they will advance the typical american at least 20 miles or more down the road towards type2 diabetes. One complaint is with today being labor day, I called in advance to put our name on a list as they had an hour wait. When we got here 45 min later & checked in, they said it would be a 45 min wait, and then moved my name from the first apparently placebo like list, to the "real" list. Im still trying to wrap my brain around the list thing, as I wait like I would have if I didnt call in reservations ahead. But yes, other than being a hair pricy, their pancakes are good.

Today 3/20/16 I had a very bad experience at this location I waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for a table for two, I was told it was a 30. Minutes wait so I put my name on the list, other people arrived and got seated on tables for two after 45 minutes I enquire about my place on the list one of the young hostess replied that shell seat me after one table ,time went by and approximately 6 tables for two after I asked and the older hostess angrily replied she was still trying to seat me,as if she was doing me a favor.so by this time and after seeing people get seated before me I just ask to please remove my name from the list and left. I have been a loyal client of this establishment for over 30 years and after today I may look for other place to have breakfast.

I just recently joined Local Guides, but have been going to The Original Pancake House for well over 20-years. My Father-in-law and Mother-in-law were 2-of the customers who have been going to OPH for over 30-years. In fact my Father-in-law, Ed Sorensen has a Booth #8 with a plaque honoring his Loyalty to OPH. I cannot say enough Good things about OPH. The Staff and the Manager, Jennifer at the Edina, MN location is the Best in the Twin Cities. We find going there makes us feel special, and OPH is what we consider to be our " Cheers " location. In addition to the Excellent Food and Service we have met many of our friends who we now consider part of our family. I highly recommend trying it and I am sure you will agree. Tex Johnson

One of the best breakfast places around! My recommendations are: 1. Omelettes. Done souffle-style and big enough to share. The Santa Fe has some zip, and the OPH is excellent. Choose the buttermilk pancakes for your side -- its a full short stack. 2. Oven Pancake. The Dutch Baby (oven pancake served with lemons and powdered sugar) is my personal favorite. 3. Hot Chocolate. Made with real chocolate and real cream. Need I say more? 4. Bacon. Its thick cut and flavorful. 5. Hash Browns. Theyre mixed with onion and cooked just right. (not all OPH locations have hash browns) This place is always busy, so be prepared to wait. The decor is dated, yet fitting. The main dining rooms are more fun to sit in than the back overflow room.

Worth the wait, and there is always a wait. A hip hangout for those over 70 and just a delicious place for anyone else. They have recently changed from allowing you to call ahead to using an app called NoWait, but Im sure you could get away with calling if you really wanted to. Theres plenty of space but the best seating is definitely in the center or left rooms - the right room is the newest and the decor doesnt stack up. The only major con for the establishment in general is that the servers love to pour coffee all over your table, so if you want coffee, move your cup to the edge of the table, and ideally group them all together to keep the server from dousing your pancakes.

Their food is great if you go at off hours, but when it is busy this place totally falls apart. They cant keep their seating straight, even after the implementation of a seating app, they still keep screwing up. And out of the huddle of desk employees who try to figure it out, inevitably at least one of them will try to find a way to put the blame on the customer (almost every single time). And when it is busy, the food is always cold by the time that it comes to the table. And last time, the coffee was only slightly warmer than room temp and was so weak that it must have been done with a small portion of grounds that they normally use (becuse their coffee is normally great).
