Saturday, May 4, 2013, 7:30 p.m. I saw a highway sign today on I-610 and Zane Ave in Brooklyn Park that listed the 5-8 Grill and Bar, so I decided to try it out. I was surprised to see how small the interior was, but it is split into the bar and grill area and a separate dining area that is hidden from view. Their menu provided the history of the place and said they were famous for their "Juicy Lucy" hamburgers. The menu warned that the cheese would be very hot and to take the time to let it cool, but the wait would be worth it. The waitress told me the Juicy Lucy was a big burger because it was made from two patties about 1/2 pound. I asked about substituting onion rings for the French Fries and was told that would cost $1.00 more. I was disappointed to hear that since the basket meal was already $8.99 and its hard to believe that onion rings are that much more expensive. I also ordered an iced tea, but didnt check the price of that. The Juicy Lucy basket arrived very fast and that surprised me. But I think it came so fast because it was prepared earlier and had been sitting in a warmer. The burger was much smaller than I expected and was barely warm. The French Fries were just warm, too; not what I expected as fresh-from-the-fryer. Their menu said they had a satisfaction guarantee, so when the waitress came by after I had about two bites from the burger and asked how it was, I gave her a frown and a side-to-side hand wave to indicate that it wasnt great. I told her it was so-so. She laughed and walked away without making any attempt to find out what was wrong. I gave a "good" rating to the service because it was fast and pleasant and the wait staff is not responsible for the quality of the food served. I would have rated it higher if she had been concerned that I didnt find the food good and would have asked why. Not only wasnt the burger hot, it didnt have much taste, even after adding salt (nothing was salted, not even the fries). The burger had the consistency of overcooked oatmeal - the taste was about the same. And I didnt find the cheese in the "Juicy Lucy" until I had eaten nearly to the center. This was definitely not a juicy burger. Not even the additions (not sure what they were - mushroom slices and pickles?) added to the taste. The French Fries, too, were bland. The very small paper cup of cole slaw was the standard canned cole slaw served at any fast food place. The best thing about the meal was the unsweetened iced tea. I ate the burger, one taste of the cole slaw, and about three French Fries. I asked for the check. It was for $12.06; the iced tea was $2.25 which surprised me and there were no refills. To be honest, Ive had better burgers at McDonalds and Burger King. Even the $1.00 McDoubles have more taste.

What Lousy experience for a Father’s Day. We arrived shortly after 11:00am with plans on having a nice lunch but were told they were only serving Breakfast. I looked around and what I saw at the time everyone served had breakfast items. So we ordered breakfast items. No sooner than the waitress left the table did I see lunch items start to come out of the Kitchen. So the wait staff lied or only certain people were allowed to order lunch items. The food we ordered was NOT good. I ordered biscuits and Gravy, the biscuits were barley the size of a silver dollar, pasty and Flavorless. The gravy had no flavor and barley covered the biscuits. I guess with quality I should consider myself lucky. The waitress we had was horrible she took our order, swept by at one time to take my empty glass of ice-tea but NEVER brought it back. I had to ask another wait staff person to get it back. She did bring the check at the end though. Even with bad service I leave some kind of tip but the overall experience was so overtop BAD I left no tip. Horrible, Horrible we will not be going back to this location, for some time if ever. I will also be letting everyone know the experience we had.

What We Ordered - Onion Straws - Juicy Lucy with Pepper Jack Cheese and JoJos (Extra $1) - Doughboys How is this one of the two most well known places for a Juicy Lucy in Minnesota? :( My burger was overcooked and dry! Had to add ketchup and ranch on the burger for more flavor when I ran out of cheese. Luckily, my cousins burger came out a perfect medium rare. However, he said he didnt have much cheese inside. The Doughboys were interesting. Not something I would order again. It was kind of like a cinnamon roll with chocolate syrup but, more dough and less flavor since there was nothing but just plain dough on the inside. Only thing good was the onion straws. Besides the fact it came in a huge, brick size pile, it was crispy and delicious! Not sure what the other reviews were talking about...food came out fairly quickly. Just wished my burger wasnt overcooked. :( I wont be back.

Ive always heard so many people raving about the Jucy Lucy, but it tasted really dry. The molten cheese was nice, but otherwise it didnt taste very good. Also, we ordered an appetizer here with our entrees and the waiter never brought out the appetizer. She brought out the entree, went back to tending the bar, and we became very confused. We had to eventually stop her to ask her about it, and she said shed go back to bring it out -- no apology. The place was literally EMPTY and you cant even remember to bring out the appetizer? Will never go back here again. Btw, 5/8 club, I have an idea -- instead of advertising deals for your restaurant on GroupNow, how about you improve your customer service and food. Its clear from all of these reviews that you seem to consistently do bad in these categories.

Its extremely ok. The burgers are just alright and nothing special. The bun is alright, the burger is completely plain with not much flavor. If youre going to get something, get the Juicy Lucy. Thats one of the great things that they have here. Ive tried both the swiss and american cheese varieties, and I prefer the american. They have crazy juicy lucys like peanut butter and jelly, breakfast, flaming hot, and the Pig Pen. The service can be a tad bit slow, even when theyre not busy. Its alright, but I prefer 5 Guys because the burgers taste better and the service is way faster.

tried for the first time last night and was completely disappointed. the juicy lucy doesnt excite me, i was just in the mood for a big fat hot and tasty burger. But i was disappointed with a dry, small and tastless and barely warm piece of beef on a bun with toppings that were lacking. i maybe had three onion straws on my burger. And the slaw was worthless as well. Service was good, 2for1s obviously a bonus, but why was my food horrible and cold? Super disappointed, I wont be back. Im pretty sure a Wendys burger can beat these burgers here
