Went there for lunch today by myself and had an enjoyable meal of chicken teriyaki with fried rice. The service was great and the food was good quality. The only gripes I had was with the company at the table with me. The couple across from me was fine, however the caucasian family next to me started some unnecessary racist charades in the restaurant. Nearing the end of the meal the waitress came by to ask if anyone needed boxes. One of the elderly women said , "No, because it was bad." The waitress asks why. Elderly woman says, "because I wanted the vegetables everyone else had but I got cabbage and bean sprouts." Now before she even ordered the veggie delight, they explained that it included cabbage and bean sprouts. However, neither before, nor during the cooking did she care to mention that she didnt want those kinds of veggies. Another waitress comes by to see what the problem is and tries to explain that you have to say something if you want something specific from what is described in the menu. The elderly woman continues to say, "well I didnt know what was on there." This was already explained to her several times and she did not mention anything about it. She asks to speak to the manager and the first waitress says there is no manager currently on staff at that time. Whether this is true or not, I cannot say. However, at this moment as shes trying to explain the item the elderly woman ordered, the old woman puts her hand up and says, "Stop talking, the hand is up." She continues to say, "I know you speak better english than that." The second waitress tries to explain that shes just trying to do her job and that they didnt understand what the elderly woman was trying to say. In the end, the racist family leaves and grumbles to themselves on how theyre not coming back and have to find a new japanese restaurant. The purpose of this was just to note that the staff did what they could to explain the situation and figure out a solution, despite having unreasonable customers. Kudos to the staff. No kudos to the microaggressions from the racist family. You probably shouldnt dine out after CHURCH at a Japanese restaurant if you want to spew your racist comments because youre dissatisfied with your meal. You should probably go back for the second service in the afternoon. By the way, Jesus wasnt white, nor did he speak English.

Been going to shoguns for years, I really am disappointed to say what a terrible experience I just had here. The wait staff shoved us into a corner of a larage party. Now they normally fill the tables but I was sitting behind the food next to another station. Less then a minute into looking at the menu she comes back for our order like we were holding up this table that already finished their soup and salad. I also want to mention they were dead, so it wasnt due to the need to keep a steady pace. The most important part to me that makes me never want to come back is the actual chief. As Ive mentioned Ive been going to this location for years, but the chief today I had never seen before. He was young and clearly inexperienced, someone at the table wanted their meal cooked workout butter, so instead of making it separately he cooked it all without butter then after serving her hed add the butter to the cooked food. It all had 0 taste, which after watching him prep the meats I realized he just didnt add any seasoning... he just threw meat down, poured oil and called it a day. Im sorry I got lengthy but Shogun, lets get real. Your prices have gone up every year. Spending nearly $50 on two meals Id hope I could actually enjoy it.

Staff was rude and only seemed concerned about getting our party out as quick as possible to get the next group in. Food was okay, but for the price didnt have the value for what your paying. The cooking at your table experience was lacking also. The chef barely interacted with anyone at the table at all. Only time he spoke to people was to say what the sauces were, and to ask how someone wanted their steak done (which was still underdone). The woman managing this location was rude also, just trying to get the next group in. The server was hovering over the last couple of people eating, waiting for them to get the last bit of food off their plate and then snatched it away from them. As soon as your party is done, expect to be asked to leave, they want the turnover, even though they could be polite and offer to move your party into the front room (that doesnt have the cooking tables) to continue your dinner experience. Definitely not very family friendly. I think they could all use a class in costumer service. I would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone. I would recommend the other "cook at your table" places before this any in the Shogun chain.

Food was good....service was the worst Ive ever had. - server had a horrible attitude throughout the whole dinner - cook gave us a hard time about a severe shell fish allergy one customer had (wouldnt cook shell fish after other meats and tried to use same spatula and oil with meat that was used for shell fish) - customers food had to be cooked in the back (which came out unedible) - server and manager refused to use a valid entertainment book coupon (the only restrictions marked are if its on a holiday - it was not) - server said she was sick of dealing with all the "complaining and bitching" at our table - even though a man could have died if he ate food the touched shell fish. - server said for us to find the manager ourselves and take it up with him (he wouldnt even come to the table) Worst dining experience ever. I wouldnt recommend spending $17+ a meal here, try Benihana. Same price, but you get what you pay for.

**EDIT** I had confused this place with hibachi buffet at 14 and Van Dyke Shogun is good. Sometimes better than other times, but never bad. Staff always friendly and food always cooked to order. Original post vvvvvvvvvvvvvv Has to be the worse food ever. The owner should commit hara Kiri. They WILL RIP YOU OFF. They will charge you for extra food when you do not eat their disgusting offerings. Price was unreasonable and staff was unconcerned with serving or making food. W O R S E R E S T A U R A N T E V E R All of the 5 star reviews are fake and made by the angry little bald man behind the counter. This place will inevitably be busted for whatever illegal business is actually taking place there, as there is no way they actually sell enough FOOD to turn a profit or pay the rent. Mark my words one day you will read about a meth lab or human trafficking ring operating out of this establishment.

Walked in at 1130am to order sushi to-go, wait until 1145 for the waitress to pick up my order sheet. I watched her walk around with it in her hand until 12, seating other guests, filling drinks etc. Its about 1225 now and I stand up to leave, whos yells at sushi chef and then tells me 5 minutes. I look over and he hasnt even started making my food!! I ordered one California roll and an egg Nigiri and 25 minutes has gone by and you havent even started?! Restaurant was not busy at all, waitress didnt seem concerned at all that I waked an hour for food, seemed very scored at my very presence. Get back to school, eat my sushi... worse than buying sushi from Kroger. Ill just continue diving the extra 20 min to Umi sushi on 23 and van dyke. Shogun is the WORST.
