We had a wonderful meal here this evening. The waiter and waitress that were working were so welcoming and friendly. My daughter and I has the wonderfully aromatic and even better tasting Amo Mazen tea, while my other daughter and son had the freshly-squeezed lemonade. To eat we started with a vegetarian combo with absolutely fabulous hommus baba ghanoush, and the best falafel Ive had in Kalamazoo, all with warm pita. The waiter, Mohammed, recommended the vegetable gallaya with the moujadrah rice for our one vegetarian daughter and it was delicious! Our daughter said that she was not a big fan of Mediterranean food before but could eat the gallaya and rice every day. Then Mohammed recommended a platter for the other four of us. He customized it for us with a pound of chicken shawarma, a pound of lamb gyro meat and some chicken kafta. Everything was wonderful. Really, everything. The fattoush salad was light and fresh, the basmati rice was flavorful, the meats were all juicy and tender. The flaky baklava was just the right dessert to top it all off. All five of us left very pleased and the kids are already asking when we can return. Bab El Salam is such a treasure for Kalamazoo.

I went there for a quick lunch today thinking that we (wife & 2 kids) would grab some sandwiches and hummus. The chef suggested that instead he would put a tray together for us (meats, toppings, pita, salad, etc). I asked about the cost (knowing that sandwiches are about $7-$8 each). He made it sound like the price would be pretty comparable in the end. Well,...it was not comparable. When I went up to the register to pay, it had turned into an $88 lunch (it would normally have been about $55). This wasnt my first time eating there. Im usually quite happy with the food and service but today it felt like I was taken advantage of. I would suggest that you stick to what is on the menu. Overall the food was good (chicken shwarma was dry today. Usually it isnt) and the staff was very friendly as usual. They urged me to order "off menu" and the next thing you know my quick lunch was at least 50% $$ more than expected. Stick to what is on the menu (where you can see the cost) and you should be quite happy.

Stopped in today after a bronson 5k run with my wife son and mother inlaw. The atmosphere was great and the service was excellent! I had chicken schawarma entree with white rice and fattoush salad. Everything was fresh and the chicken was moist. We shared a plate of fallafel just hott and fresh woth some garlic and tahini it was delicious. They also have fresh juices a must try. We each ordered one they were great. 1 Fresh orange juice, lemonade with basil and mango madness. Anyone looking for good arabic food stop here you wont be disappointed

Food is very good, drinks are delicious and service is superb. The owner and his staff are the kindest people you can imagine. The place is very clean, well lit, comfortable temperature. Plenty of parking. They also have a small middle eastern market inside the restaurant. Weve bought delicious cookies and pastries at very good prices. I cant tell about the other things they sell because we havent tried them yet.

Great store excellent selections. Had lunch there ordered a lamb burger and chili fries. Took a long time to get my food my lamb burger was good but my bun was so dry and falling apart the chili fries had no more than a tablespoon of Chile and I paid an extra 2. 50 for that and was not that great. But I will come back also I had asked for napkins and I never got any silverware must been a bad day.

Im so glad we randomly stopped here. My husband and I both love Mediterranean food and Bab El Salam did not let us down. I had a chicken shawarma sandwich (4.50) and it was great. My husband had the grilled half chicken (14.00 on special for 10.50 w/two sides) and it was so flavorful. Thanks to the staff for being friendly and answering all of our questions. We will be back soon! :)

Amazing food, fabulous service, the best tea ever, and a grocery store that has food from 42 countries! They carry the main ingredient in my absolute favorite Croatian food, which no one carries anywhere! Only my late grandmother knew where to get it in South Chicago, but they have it here. We will be back again and again.

My favorite place in town, by far! Im in for lunch at least once a week and the staff are always very friendly and happy to help. They know me by name now - but this is a fantastic place to eat. Love supporting the local community too! I always suggest going here if meals are left up to me :)

This is the best restaurant in the world that you will never forget. You can enjoy a meal at the same time you can go shopping for various foods. Can you deliver some Amo Mazen tea and Amo Mazen pita was craving it here in japan. ILoveYou AMO MAZEN.

Very friendly staff. Amo Mazen was very accommodating and would explain what the different dishes are. Big servings and very well-priced. Definitely recommended. Those who like Middle Eastern food should definitely try this place.
