Best take out food in the area by far. If you are in the mood for slider burgers this is the place to go. The fries are hit and miss at times. Sometimes they are nice and crispy other times they are undercooked and soft. Breakfast is my favorite time to get bates. They have really cheap breakfast. I wish however they had a better selection like waffles or that sort. Parking lot is atrocious. Way too small for the amount of people who come in and out of the place. Come early in the morning for breakfast and a bit later then noon for lunch if you want to avoid the crowds. Not worth the hassle of trying to get a parking space. It being cash only really doesnt bother me. I think it adds to the charm of the place. That and you will never really spend more then $7- $10 bucks per person.

Old school quaint burger place and have been making them the same way FOREVER. I know people who have been going there for around 30 years. Best burgers around. Fries always have just the right amount of crisp. I have to drive 2-1/2 to this area from time to time for work and I always find time to stop in and enjoy a cheeseburger or 2 loaded with grilled onions and pickles. If u like catchup, mustard, and pickles on your cheeseburger smother it up with some mix sauce. Have to ask for it. They dont waste it on some fly by the night customer. Cash only! Like I said, Old School. Parking is a Bear but can find over flow parking off the main street a bldg or 2 away. It is all worth it for some tasty food.

I just finished driving 3000 miles for a Bates Hamburger. I grew up in Livonia and Bates were our dinner at least one night a week. We moved away when I was 16. Through the years I have craved them expecially when I was pregnant. I used to beg friends to put some on dry ice and mail them to me. I am 53 now and I just had to have another Bates Hamburger before it was too late. Everything was the same down to the aroma when you walk through the door. The only thing missing was the glass in front of the grill so you could watch them cook!! I love you Bates!! Lisa from Florida

I stopped here because I wanted plain old burgers. Instead, I was treated to the equivalent of sex. With the first bite I took, Chuck Norris tapped me on the shoulder and gave me a thumbs up. With the second bite, a bald eagle screeched while the national anthem played in the distance. After finishing my meal, fireworks went off in the distance while Benjamin Franklin sang "My Country Tis Of Thee". Overall I give it 9.68 out of 10.

Myself and my family lived across the street since 1953. I remember on Fridays my Dad would bring us Bates as a treat. Having 5 kids in your family it was very expensive to go out to dinner. Bates have the very best burgers any where. I remember we use to get our coffee in glass bottles with cardboard tops. I hope they stay there always .Pam Olds

Great for a greasy burgers cooked on a bed of sauteed onions, crinkle fries and coneys. Their burgers are quite possibly the finest example of the "slider" with the meat, bun and toppings all working together to create something more than the sum of its parts. I wish that the coney was natural casing but other than that I love the place.

A small white building serving delectable sliders, a staple to Livonia like Loony down the street, Bates has been around for years. The service is fast and on point, so be prepared with your order when you talk. The owners and cooks are excellent at their job. The space within is limited and so is the parking lot. Take outs recommended.

Sad. Been coming here since I can remember. Im 53. Last few times, food was just not good. Certainly not what they used to be. I will not go back. I will rely on cherished memories of mouth-watering burgers and leave this place to those who have given themselves to mediocrity for the sake of nostalgia.

Classic old school hamburger stand. They arent sliders. Thats just how big a normal hamburger was - and probably should be... Awesome burgers, great crinkle-cut fries, fast takeout window, classic dining bar, and window seating. Its cash only, so be prepared to pay for your plastic-toting friend.

Amazing food. I have lived near this place most of my life and one of my biggest regrets when we moved out of state was never finding another burger place that matched it. Wish they took credit cards, but I think its a public service that they dont or we would be here all the time.

This is an awesome little burger joint. The food tastes great, and the service is quite pleasant. The only reason I dont give it five stars is because it is cash only. I know its supposed to be a nice never changing restaurant, but everything is faster and easier with plastic.

Moved to Florida and ate at Bates every day before I left Michigan. The waitress made fun of me and joked about Florida. But I now own a restaurant in Georgia, and if I ever win the lottery.... Im renting a plane to take me to Bates Burgers for lunch. Best ever. I miss you.

Great food that brings back so many memories from going out with my family, and afternoon walks with my cousins. Their classic burgers have not changed one bit! They are usually very busy so I tend to call ahead my order. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT TO UNDERSTAND!

Im from florida and this was one of the first places my husband took me to when we moved to livonia. He lived across the street from Bates all of his young life. Absolutely love the chocolate milkshake and chili fries

A Livonia favorite! The best sliders around, but the real gem is breakfast. The breakfast special is a steal at under $5 and it comes with two eggs, a meat (bacon or sausage), hash browns, toast, and coffee or pop.

Absolutely love this place! Its the size of most peoples living room which allows for great interactions between the customers and the waitress! Oh and the food is inexpensive and wonderful. I highly recommend it!

Good food, but the inside is really trashed. I know its suppose to look 1950ish but it needs to be renovated and fixed up. A lot of broken tile, etc through the building. It took a little too long to get our food.

A childhood memory that I cant shake. Sitting on the window seats looking out at Farmington Rd, eating a double cheese with everything, fries and a malt (chocolate). A must stop if youre in the Livonia area!

Great sliders. The double cheeseburgers with everything are the best. The singles dont have quite enough meat. Best gotten to go, since they put the perfect amount of ketchup and mustard on for you.

This place is a long time favorite for me. Hamburgers cooked the way I remember from hamburger joints when I was a kid- delicious! Very few places to get a burger this good.
