Let me preface this with saying that I really wanted to love this place. Finding good BBQ in Michigan is not the easiest task by any means so when we saw West Texas Barbeque Co on Under the Radar we just had to go! Unfortunately, when we finally visited we were "greeted" by employees who looked at my brown faced family like we were aliens. That alone wouldnt be enough to merit a one star rating, but when we sat down there were flies swarming everywhere, probably because the table itself was grimy and sticky! Then when the woman came out with our pop she made made a snarky comment about us ordering four pops instead of six! Seriously? Two of the people in our 6 person party were 3 year olds! Then halfway through our meal one of the cooks walked through with his ginormous pit bull and took him to the back of the restaurant...gag. No animal belongs in the back of a restaurant. The food itself was just okay. The meat is tender but a tad flavorless and their three sauce options pretty much tasted like watered down ketchup. The only thing that I can say was yummy was the macaroni and cheese. There wasnt much food for how much it cost either, as their menu has no family meal which is pretty much a staple at any genuine Southern BBQ. If the restaurant wouldnt have been so unwelcoming and unsanitary I would have given it a 3 star rating.

Not sure people really know how to add stars properly in Michigan... First, you dont comment, or leave negative remarks - and give the joint 5 stars. If you like a whole bottle of pepper on your ribs, then this is the place for you. If you dont, you might wanna skip this place. Ive eaten ribs in west Texas, and they dont have frickin pepper mills constantly seasoning the ribs, which were also overcooked. I know, because they were wrapped and left in the bag for an hour on my travels, and upon trying to eat some, found them tough on the outside. The moisture from the meat should have softened them up, but not surprisingly, the meat was also stuck to the bones. Two things that should NEVER happen with properly cooked ribs. Them being wrapped would not cause them to cook any more, so it wasnt because of that. Because they decided to put the butter in with the ribs and rolls, that melted - and my shorts are soaked. Thanks. Also, the sauces are weak - as MANY people have pointed out here. Their specialty sauce is basically vinegar with a little bbq sauce added. Its the consistency of water. I wonder if it was made that way to wash the pepper off? I dont understand why a place like this cant actually take the time and read the reviews - a few tweaks, and this place could be awesome. Instead, its always going to be this way.

Its okay... Its way out of the way. Its only open for three hours a day most days. You would think its so amazing because its only open short periods but its just okay. Brisket was nothing to write home about. Pork shoulder was pretty good. The BBQ sauce selection was weak in my opinion. The mild was basically ketchup. The main BBQ didnt have a lot of flavor. The best of the bunch was the hot which didnt have that much flavor either but would definitely make you sweat. Mac and cheese was just okay, beans werent very good. Cornbread was again just okay. Best part was the chocolate chip cookies, those were surprisingly good.

Went in a group of eight. Two people had the ribs. They not only liked it one of them just kept m-m-m-m-m-ing and remarking about how good it was. Four of us had the brisket. Wow, very good. As far as the sauces, Id prefer A1. Two people got the turkey and they agreed that it was very good. The beans won approval and the only sour note was from a crabby old broad who thought the macaroni and cheese was too spicy. My wife thought it was bland and dumped pepper all over it. So, seven normal people thought it was exceptional. Looking forward to returning and getting a platter of items I havent tried yet.

Had the small sampler basket. Turkey was overwhelmed by whatever rub they use. I prefer to taste the smoke in turkey, and the rub spices just totally dominated (and were far too salty for me). The pork and beef were very tasty, but hadnt been well trimmed of fat; I got several slimy globs, which I had to deposit into my napkin. Great taste, though. Best of all was Big Uns vinegar-based BBQ sauce. That alone was worth the drive.

I have driven from the Detroit area (Westland) just to get their BBQ. I love brisket and they have one of the best flavors around. However, if you know about meat, you know to get consistent quality, tenderness and flavor from brisket is not possible. However, they come very close and like I said, nobody around is better. Yes, I will visit them again and again and again. They are worth it.

Save you time and money, had lunch there today 8/18/17 they suck, expensive, food was barley warm. My wife and l got the 3 meat platter and the brisket was 90% fat, the turkey was cold, and the sausage tasted like its been cooking for a week and it was barely warm, heard how great the place was only to drive over an hour to be totally disappointed. Big mistake!!!!!!!!!!

Food is excellent. Had the 3 meat platter. Brisket, pulled pork and smoked turkey all tasted very good. Homemade mac and cheese was very good too. Husband had the ribs with his meal. The ribs are awesome. All the meat was juicy and had great flavor. Definately going back again soon. Well worth the hour drive.

Hands down the best barbecue Ive had in Michigan. This place doesnt look like much, but if youre more into food then ambience you wont care. We always make a point of stopping here when in Jackson, even if we have to drive across town. Its what I like to call "happy food".

Cant say enough about this place...delicious every time! Great industrial style atmosphere to enjoy some of the best BBQ in the area. Ribs, prime rib (Friday only), and brisket are amazing and I havent heard any less from anyone I go with. Go here if you ever get the chance!

This food is amazing. Still the best BBQ Ive ever head. At some point last year, they started to measure out the portions, so the sandwiches are small now. Its understandable though, as the portions were probably way to generous. Also, youve absolutely got to try the ribs!

The meat is wonderful. Cooked perfectly so not to dry but never slimy with pulled pork. Only thing I wish was a wider selection of sauce. You have 3 choices mild, hot, and a special blend that is kinda sweet. All sauces are almost a water consistency.

We had West Texas cater our wedding and it was a HUGE hit! The food was amazing and the service was great! I had forgot to purchase plates/forks for the desserts and they gave us their extras to use! I would highly recommend them for catering!

Was given their smoked hams many times which were off the charts with incredible flavor. Had lunch onsite many times also, great care given to the true art of smoking. The rotating smokers provide the perfect environment for amazing tasty meat.
