First and foremost, I NEVER do things like posting reviews but definitely had to in this case. This place has the potential to be GREAT but I dont believe the chef/owner cares enough or at all. Ive been to this place twice and consecutively over 2 weeks. Awesome service by the daughter! She made it worth the second visit even though she wasnt present. The owner was not present on either visit and was apparently on vacation when I asked during the second. 1. HOT food! Make sure that EVERYTHING is HOT and not dried out (Brisket)! No one eats the cornbread muffins! I saw another review that said it tasted like a cold un-iced cupcake. That is probably the most apt description... 2. Portion sizes do not accomodate the price they charge for their plates. 1/2lb. apparently (even with combination plates, smh) but I didnt see a scale anywhere. I reiterate...THE COST DOES NOT MATCH UP WITH THE AMOUNT OF FOOD YOURE GIVEN. 3. Consistancy. This is actually a compliment. Aside from the not so done bbq baked beans and cold cornbread this joint has some REALLY great flavors going on! The first visit had my date and I trying out 3 different sauces (Bold, Chipotle, and Spicy if Im not mistaken). The bold sauce is their claim to fame! It contains chocolate and its crazy good! The second time I went, it was no longer available for the guest to eat with at the table...???!!! You now have to purchase it separately!!! YOU HAVE TO TRY IT FIRST!!!! I came here because the place was black-owned and definitely wanted to support my own. Atlanta doesnt have that great a bbq scene and theres no reason this place shouldnt be the FIRST place you think of outside of the metro area and Fox Bros. in East Atlanta. None. This place should be ridiculously busy at lunch time!!! Get some signage in place so people can easily find you. Make sure your employees (understand and speak english) know your product and brand and are able to explain it well to your guests AND are able to successfully run your business in your absence!!!!! GET IT TOGETHER...I want to come back and be blown away by this place...Or dont do anything at all and just shut it down...TOUGH LOVE

This restaurant is poorly managed and cared for. I am not here to slander but to only tell you my own experiences as an employee. The kitchen was a mess with dirty dishes being stacked in the same area as the clean ones or ontop of clean ones. No dishwashing machine is on premises and sponges were never replaced. The meat may be cooled daily but the sides are made weekly except the macaroni. The owner is very unethical and very unprofessional. Walter Brooks doesnt Care about his employees either. From scheduling issues to the kitchen, employees are taken advantage. My very last day of work I came to pick up my pay check and had to work just so the owner(Walter) could Go get my check from the bank even though it was already "processing for two days". Turns out he comes back three hours later with cash and pays me Then he never attempts to pay me for the hours worked while he was gone. Then Walter proceeds to talk to employees behind my back after all of this and ignore. Somewhat reminding me of an ex gf or something. Honestly this is the biggest joke of an establishment I am almost insulted this place is in my neighborhood. The owner got all up in my face when I asked for my late paycheck and then said " when I feel like Im being attacked my Compton side comes out".... Lol no one is scared of any Compton boy around here. Take this trash back to the west coast unless you want to be ethical and genuine. Tired of fake people coming to this Johns creek area. The word will be spread to my fellow HOOCH family.

Ive been there 3 times now, all on Saturdays. 1st time was delicious, but expensive for a sandwich, dozen wings and 2 drinks. 2nd time they were closed without notice. 3rd time time was really disappointing. Not only did I pay $36 for a dozen wings, brisket plate and drink, but when I went to pour a sweet tea it was not yet sweetened. I alerted the kid at the counter, and his response was , "oh, yeah." He didnt offer to refund my money or even offer a different beverage or offer to add sugar to the tea container. So he knew when I ordered sweet tea, he did not have, but didnt really care. I wish the service was better!! I really wanted to like it because the brisket is great. But high prices and poor service will definitely make me think before I return. And, I love nothing more than supporting local businesses since we have a local business in the community, but theres definitely room for improvement.

Very very disappointing. Skip this place go else where. One sammy, one side and a can drink was $11 Meat was sub par, tasted like store bought warm up type. Sauce was yummy tho Collard greens was like a soup not greens. They charge 1.95 for your choice of a CAN OF diet coke, Sunkist, or sprite.... uhh... what? I asked for tea they said they didnt make any... no offer to make it. The place it self is very dirty, unkept, Windows are nasty. But my biggest pet peeve of this place? Besides over paying, little drink options, and meh tasting food? The staff came in sat in the dinning room, while I ate.... waht.... thats like resteraunt 101 not to do. Basic.

Really awesome food, pulled pork was moist, tender, and had a great smokey flavor. This place seems like it could be really popular but is very poorly run. Very plain, undecorated interior. I waited over an hour for my sandwich which is just too long for lunch during the work week. Especially since I was the only one in there! The menu is not put together well and the lack of any sort of combo selection was off-putting. I would have loved a sandwich combo that came with a side and drink, but instead its all just listed separately. Again, really good bbq thats worth a try but doesnt seem like the business is run very well.

Ive driven by this place on numerous occasions and when they have their smoker going, its hard to resist. We tried it for the first time tonight. The brisket and ribs were inedible. Incredibly tough. The entire meal made me feel so sad. The corn muffin was like a bland, un-iced cupcake. The baked beans were not cooked long enough and were almost crunchy. Im embarrassed about how much money we spent on that horrible meal. Im sure there are lovely people who run this restaurant. I hope they will make some important changes to the food they prepare and serve.

I wish I didnt have to write this review. The owner/manager is so nice, made us feel at home, and all of the staff are the same at this little BBQ joint in the JC. Alas, the food is somewhat ordinary though - the ribs were a touch too firm, the sauces too tomato-ey and sweet (GA/NC style, not TX style). Somewhat made up for by the yummy, salty fries, and the big, yummy burger. But the BBQ was the alleged star. Until it wasnt. I wish I could recommend this place because I love supporting local businesses but this place is just ordinary
