We just had a terrible experience at Toast Birmingham. We go once in a while as a treat, but after this time, were not going back. The service was awful, the manager was rude and our food was mediocre. My son ordered hot chocolate with milk in it to cool it off (which we do everywhere - hes only 8) and it came as piping hot as my husbands. We had to get cold milk and bowl so we could take enough of the whipped cream (which was supposed to be on the side and wasnt) and cocoa off so I could pour enough milk in to make it drinkable. Both my husband and I ordered home fries well done with our omelets. They showed up almost raw. My omelet was lukewarm with almost no cheese. We complained to the manager - who argued with me about my sons cocoa. They did get us home fries well done, but not before the meal was almost over. Im not sure which Im most upset about, the lousy meal, the bad service or the rude manager. The combination of the three guaranteed we wont be back for a very long time.

Location: Perfect location in downtown Birmingham. Finding parking honestly wasnt that bad. Service: Great service with a smile. Our food came out quickly as well. Food: Ill be honest, I wasnt in the mood for a sweet breakfast when I came here. The huevos rancheros were pretty good, I wish the tortilla would have been a tiny bit softer, and the dish a tiny bit hotter temperature-wise. The veggie sausage was delicious and are worth going vegetarian for the day for. Since the restaurant is called "Toast" I figured it was a must to order the toast of the day. Lucky for me it was sourdough (my favorite) with goat cheese, balsamic reductions and strawberries, the toast was nice and thick - very good flavor as well. Final thoughts: Toast was decently good! I would definitely visit again due to their many options for a sweet or savory tooth, meat eater or veg head.

I tried to make a reservation for a party of 12 one week in advance for a birthday the following Saturday night. After initially calling, I was informed that a manager would have to call me back to confirm the reservation. I gave them my contact information and waited. The next day I had not heard anything and called back. Again I was told a manager would have to call me back to confirm my reservation. I called a third time the next day and finally got a manager who told me that my reservation wasnt even on file and they couldnt accommodate my party. This is poor customer service as I should have been told initially that they could not accommodate us, or the manager should have made accommodations. Needless to say, I will not be recommending Toast to anyone in the future based on this highly poor experience.

Very Disappointing. Second time to this place. Went again for lunch on 28 July @ around 3pm. 10 min before the server even acknowledged us. Wasnt busy. Finally the bar manager came and took our order. Another 30 min to receive the food. Steak frite tasted like the meat was reheated and not fresh. Hoisin burger meat tasted more boiled than grilled. $40 bill and after all that, all we get offered is a free dessert, which obviously we turned down. From one business owner to another, please sort out your staff and managers because it is unacceptable to charge premium prices for substandard service and food. I understand that this could have been a fluke but do more to fix the situation than offer a free dessert. We are local and could be regular customers. Thanks.

Overly expensive due to truffle oil and the like buzz word ingredients. (Google: "Bourdain" & "truffle oil") Everything was soaking wet level greasy and just seemed slapped together. Burger slipped apart, a total mess, Brioche bun was sickening. Pasta was swimming is sauce, steak was unevenly cooked one side medium rare one side well done. Macaroni was bland as hell. Needed to drown it in ketchup just to have any kind of flavor. Even when I dont like a meal I usually clean my plate. This time just ate the protein and left everything else. Beer menu a mystery if you get a bottle or on draft. Cocktails seemed interesting but again overpriced. Atmosphere however was very nice though. Dictionary definition of style over substance.

I had the good fortune of visiting there twice in one week for breakfast in the late morning. The omelet with three items was very good with fresh add in items. Friends and family enjoyed the mac and cheese with soup, and delicious waffle with fried chicken topped with eggs and cinnamon raisin toast. We sat inside and had great service! Orange juice was $5.00 which seemed high for the stylish small glass. The air conditioning was set a little cool so be sure to bring a light sweater or perhaps sit outside. Great experience, atmosphere, music and friendly service. We plan to go back again soon and try some of the more interesting menu items although the basics were very good!

I love this place! I have tried a few things on the menu and they have all been legit. Some seem a little pricey for what you get. However, the chicken and waffles are amazing. Ive gotten them many times and the chicken is always juicy while the waffles are delicious. The wait time is always a pain during brunch on Sundays unless you come before 930am. But they do have free coffee for you while you wait so thats nice. The decor is a lot of fun and all but one time Ive had a great waiter experience. Also, their specialty drinks are fun and pretty good to experiment with.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Michigan. The food is always very good with sizable portions, quality ingredients and nice favor combinations. They dont take themselves too seriously by trying to serve over the top fanciful dishes, but instead they present hearty meals with just the right chef inspired flavorings to entice a foodie. The only criticisms would be the limited items on the menu and the occasional service issue with the less experienced staff.

The food here is very good. Its pretty casual by Birmingham standards. Prices are moderate but the food feels fresh and well-designed. Service is always top-notch and the specials are usually pretty interesting. I think dinner is good but breakfast is still where its at here. The desserts are very good. In did think the doughnuts were to heavy and chewy without much filling. PS on those but get any other dessert and your be quite happy!

Great brunch place! the menu has a lot of different options for everyone and they are all really great. I ordered the huevos rancheros and they were a really great take on the traditional Mexican breakfast from my childhood. The chicken and waffles were also really great. The service was a little slow and it took a long time to get our food but the restaurant was full so it can be somewhat understandable.

Im sorry to say that while the food is innovative, the service is lacking. The hostesses - each of the five times I have been there were horrible at acknowledging our entrance, and they had very little personal customer service skills. Also I think they were confused about how and where to put my party. Each time. The food is cleaver, and the breakfast is good, but the service really put me off.
