One of the best dinners weve had. I had the Hunker Down cocktail - honey whiskey with apple wine and bitters. Excellent. We had the Mussels appetizer which were perfectly prepared with Andouille sausage, roasted red peppers and a very nice broth. Excellent. Make sure you get their bread too which is not only good for dipping in the broth but also comes with an awesome butter compote. I had the Duck Meatloaf topped with crispy prosciutto w/ mashed potatoes, green beans and a delicious gravy. Excellent. My wife had the special that night - which was Fresh Cod topped a heaping portion of poached lobster meat - tail, knuckles, claws - everything. That also came with mashed potatoes, green beans and then a delicious hollandaise sauce. Excellent. For dessert we had the Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding. Excellent. Unfortunately, that dessert is not on the menu, however, the waitress did say they have it all the time so make sure to ask for it if you dont see it! Our servers name was Karen and she did a great job. She checked up on us the right amount. Not too often and but often enough to make sure we were all set. It really was one of the best overall dining experiences weve ever had. I highly recommend McKays.

Its a bit surprising to me that this place has garnered such high reviews. Its definitely one of the better dinner places on the island, though I found that most places here are better at breakfast than dinner. The Ambiance is phenomenal. In summer, at night, sitting outside here is as good as it gets, nice for a romantic date with the girlfriend or for a pleasant evening with the family. Id give the Ambiance a 5/5. The service adds to the atmosphere, it was pretty good. 4/5 The food is where the disappointment lies. Its not bad, its just not great, especially for the price. The portions are somewhat small, if the quality was excellent this wouldnt be a problem, but I would say the quality was simply alright. I wouldnt complain as much but it just didnt seem like a great value, while the price wasnt mind boggling, it was overpriced for mediocre food in modest portions. 2.5/5 My girlfriend and I both thought we would finish off an excellent day of hiking with a great meal here. Frankly we were pumped up for it, in the end we left disappointed. Like I said one of the better dinner places on the island, just dont go in expecting a great meal.

Getting back from a late sea kayaking trip, our guide recommended McKays. With a decently balanced menu selection: hamburgers, fish & chips, pastas, to a Chateaubriand for two. The menu covers most tastes and budgets. We shared two of the daily special appetizers: fresh tomatoes with goat cheese, and scallops with pork belly. Both dishes were prepared perfectly and the flavors shined. Given the lateness of the hour, we decided to share the nights special entre of salmon, served over greens, Israeli couscous, and wild mushrooms. Yummy! The only reason McKays doesnt get more stars is the service is a bit off, especially given that the price point is on the higher range. Our appetizer plates were still sitting on the table when our food was brought out. Then when they were taken, one dirty plate was left on the table even though several waiters and servers walked by. Obviously, theres a coordination issue between the table wait staff and the food runners. The other downside to McKays is they dont do split plates. Maybe not a big deal, but its really nice when its offered.

This was my last resort choice my birthday weekend for my dinner and other other places around were so bad we had to eat right? Nope the rude guy waiter took our order off the bat but wasnt helpful with if they had bread or side salads and rushed off leaving us 1 1/2 hours never coming back for my wine order even when i tried flagging him down. My boyfriends fish came out the smallest meal with small sides and mines came out stone cold and under cooked steak. When I managed to flag waiter down he was ruder. I flipped out where is customer service and a good meal not on this island. The owner or some older guy saying he was came over and tried to see the matter. His remedy was dont charge ok thats a given and a bottle of champagne. The woman who brought my not champagne only a half split of a cheap dessert wine is the only reason Im posting this heart Jamaican heart of gold and tips helped us survive that evening and clam my temper.SHE should run and own that place I wish her the best.

Order was taken at 7:15. At 8:30 we asked where our dinner was. Some bread and our salad was brought out then. After a formal complaint at 8:45 we were told our meal was being "plated". Groups at three tables around us left without there meals. A couple who arrived at least 30 minutes after us were served. At 9:15, two hours after our order our food came. Cold (not warm) risotto, meat loaf had been heated on grill until burned on bottom then probably set under a heat lamp for an hour because it gad a thick dried out crust but was also cold. Halibut was good but everything else on plate was cold (again, not warm). Mgmt said they were sloppily sorry and Compt us one drink. They could have solved the problem after one hour by stopping to seat people when they knew they could not keep up. Bottom line - can not remember. Having a worse evening in a resaspirant.

My 3rd time at Bar Harbor but first to McKays. We had reservations and were seated right away however we were put in a corner with a window airconditioner (noisy) at my back. The window curtain fell down and hit me in the head. Our waiter Nicholas came over right away and told us the specials and took our order. My husband ordered a beer and I an ice tea. Our appetizers came right away and so did my tea. I asked for sugar and it along with my husbands beer took 20 minutes to materialize. The food was very good. I did have trouble with all the mashed potatoes I ordered all week, they were all very bland. Nicholas never came back to the table to offer more drinks and then we waited 20 more minutes for the check. In short food was good but service sucked!!!! I did have a great meal at West Street Café along with fabulous, friendly service.

I was with Bart . We were completely ignored by maitre d when we arrived. The guy who arrived after us explained to her that we were there first. She did something else came back and turned to seat the other gentleman when I reminded her ,again, that we had arrived first. Thats when we should have left. All I can say is the drinks were extremely strong and well made. Maybe they were training new wait staff and new cooks in Mem. Day weekend and we caught the downside of it all. Cool soup, a good risotto advertised as seafood risotto with hardly any seafood. Forgotton half lobster on said risotto. Dry white bread when menu promised French baguette. And management truly did not care. comped $10 and tried to get us to order dessert.
