Have been there before and enjoyed the food. However, had a reservation for 20 people, was told that wed have to split into different tables, which was understandable and agreed upon. However, once I arrived, I found that we were setup for 3 separate ROOMS. Not acceptable for a group event. They did move us to a room that held us all together (why they didnt setup that way in the first place, Im not sure) but we were kept waiting for 1 hour. Plus, they had one person (who told me it was his first day at that job) doing the setup. So, while my guests waited, I spent that hour helping get things setup. I ordered many appetizers so my guests had something to do while waiting. Although the food was good, I expected a reduction in the very large bill due to the long wait and the fact that appetizers would not have been necessary if wed been seated immediately. When I requested a reduction, they refused. I will not return.

The food was great, the service was good. But when a reservation is made stating a wheelchair is part of the party and a specific table was requested (due to wheelchair), one would expect the table not have customers seated just 2 minutes before our party arrived. A mistake that the hostess stated was his mistake. After over 30 minutes of waiting, the party that had been seated was asked to move to a table that had just been vacated. Our "compensation" for the admitted mistake was 2 coffee mugs. (Hopefully the customers who were asked to move got some sort of compensation... Im wondering if they got something other than a mug if anything?) No appetizer comp (we ordered 3, at least 1 could have been comped), no manager apology... 2 mugs. Very disappointed. This is usually the place we visit with friends, who live here year round, but our next trip to Maine may not include this stop. Very disappointed.

My wife and I were visiting Bar Harbor last week. We ate at several restaurants before we found Jack Russells. I wish we would have found it earlier on our vacation. The crab cakes were the best in town, the lobster was great. The beer was very good and our bar tender gave us lots of info on the town and area. I would say this was the best place to sit back, relax and have a couple cold ones with a nice meal. I accidentaly left my credit card and called them to see if it was there. It was there but they were closed, they took the time to put it in a envelope and place it where I could find it. When you are visiting Bar Harbor, you need to stop in and have a cold one and a order of the crab cakes followed by a fresh lobster.

My wife & I just had dinner here. The staff was very disorganized... the hostess had trouble keeping track of open tables and reservations; the bartender was waiting tables as well directing the wait staff, so her attention to those at the bar (which is where we were seated) suffered. However, the burgers and house beer that we had were really good! It may have taken longer to be seated and to order than we would have liked, but the kitchen is on point...good food, out fast. If youre patient, and dont require extremely attentive service then the food is definitely worth it. Also heard plenty of others praising their steaks and also saying food was worth it. Easily 4-stars if service was better organized.

I just left the restaurant totally disappointed. Starting with the staff, the bartender was polite yet had no desire to engage in any discussion about the dishes or drinks. She was pleasant to others yet barely spoke to us. We ordered New England Clam Chowder and I am so glad it was just a cup. The soup was watered down, the clams were scarce and it was very low on salt. We ordered crab stuff mushroom that arrived after we were done with the soup. Before we ordered, we were excited to mention that we may return the next day for Steak and the waitress/Bartender ignore the comment. So sad my first experience with locally owned was so abismal. One of the worst dinner experiences ever. The food is over priced and the service is horrible. There were about 3 waitresses who were standing by the bar chatting to people that clearly looked like regulars, and in spite of my trying to make eye contact several times no one even approached us to take an order. Finally after placing our order our waitress forgot our drink order. When we asked about our drink, not only did she not apologize, she dint even remember what we ordered. The food was very average. Our waitress dint come back to check on us or give us more water throughout the entire dinner. Horrible place. Dont come here

We had a reservation and still waited. Our waitress was annoyed. She actually snapped at us for asking questions. We found her attitude poor for someone that works in the service industry. My plate was completely covered with grease on the outside. My husbands steak was half fat and not cooked as requested. My shrimp where spongy and I had four skimpy asparagus. Our sons hot dog and french fries werent even decent. Who ever heard of a steak house that doesnt offer a baked potato? No originality, no options. Yet another place with garlic smashed potatos or fries and only one vegetable option.

Very high price and very low everything. They want to be a quality steak restaurant and its NOT. I cook better steaks on my grill at home. The potatoes were horrible, the steak was supposed to be medium rare, it was 2-3 mins away, much more rare. You cant change an item, if your 2 sides are they veggie and potatoes, you cant sub a salad without an "up charge". So if you dont like the only veggie which was asparagus youre out of luck. The waitress said we could bring our bill down when we got done, then walked past us 3 times going downstairs. This is not a high quality steakhouse at all.

Not a great experience. We noticed that the wooden chairs were very dusty in the back of the seat and the walls had food spots. The steak and asparagus were very good but the garlic in the mashed potatoes was overpowering. Also, the "thick cut" onion rings were no thicker than any other onion rings. The cheesecake dessert was the worst cheesecake Ive ever had, the cheese was as thin as a slice of cheese and it was chewy. When I mentioned it to the waiter I was told that everyone loved it and I was the first person to complain. The waiter was efficient but not personable.

Absolutely Fantastic food! We have been in Bar Harbor for 3 days and decided to try out this steak house that is is 2 minutes away from our hotel. My husband got filet mignon and he did not need a knife. It cut smoothly like butter with just a fork. My steak tips were the best I have ever had. They welcomed our 8 month old daughter and the staff was wonderful. The prices are better than most around town for the delicious food we have no complaints. We will be going back with only 3 days left of our vacation. We highly recommend this steak house.
