we are regulars at our local mexican restaurant but saw the internet reviews and new open sign so visited tonight. Portions were smaller than any in of our area mexican restuarants that we have ventured out to, and definately smaller than our regular place. We usually feel satisfied and full, and usually have some steak/chicken to take home to our dog. Not tonite.. We have never left before hungry which we did tonite. I ordered Ismael, chicken was not seasoned as expected, few shrimp and very salty, cheese was poured over just the rice really would of been better drizzled over the chicken/shrimp. My husband ordered the steak quesadilla, very small steak pieces and in a small tortilla with a little pile of lettuce with sour cream on top. He was still very hungry when we left. the cheese dip was very bland and in a smaller bowl than the salsa which we did not like either had a stange twangy taste, and only one flavor no hot or mild choice. the chips were good. Magarita was okay. I do expect more I guess as I have audited restaurants and traveled visiting many food places. It was okay as it goes but not on the top as preference.

I truly believe the salsa at Puerto Vallarta is the best in Louisville, and its worth going for that alone. Aside from this, the atmosphere is fun and family-friendly; you can tell they love their customers, and there are plenty of regulars. The decor is also a cut above the rest, with traditional Mexican street motifs built into the walls. The selection here is rather standard. Like most authentic Mexican restaurants in Louisville, there are only about six dishes suitable for vegetarians -- the same to be found at El Nopal and others, though the quality is slightly higher here, as they use better tortillas and spices. The sopapillas here are a caricature of the real thing. Theyre basically fried tortillas drizzled with honey and topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. Avoid ordering them, and you should avoid being disappointed with your trip to this restaurant. Overall, recommended, especially for those who live on the South Side.

Rude treatment, inflexible ordering of menu substitutions, couldnt communicate that we wanted cheese on the side, dinner music is obnoxious, expensive menu items, even more expensive to add ingredients or side items. Ive been there 3 times in order to give this place a fair shot. The last straw was Tuesday May 9, 2017, unfortunately on the very last bite of my Special #2 lunch, I got a 6" hair in my mouth from the burrito. Waitress would only say "sorry" and took the plate away. Cashier manager asked "how was everything?" When l mentioned the hair, all I got was another sorry and a downward look. Ill not return and my suggestion is to avoid.

Absolutely horrible service..Had to ask for a menu firstly..Took at least 25 minutes to even order food after that(although others that came in after us placed orders) asked for more salsa never received it. My order was wrong but they never came to ask how food was to even try to get it right. Waitress kept disappearing left us with empty drinks..Absolutely horrible experience..Had to go up front to get check which I realized after the fact I was overcharged.my friend had one drink..I had two..charged for four..Will not be back.

The service was nice and fast, and the vegetarian selections were more extensive than most local Mexican restaurants Ive tried. However, my cup sat empty half of the time, the chips werent replenished at all, and my tortillas came out hard at each request. Perhaps one more visit is sufficient for a more thorough review.

The food is normally very very good. Great salsa and chips. They had switched owners or something I think and got rid of a bunch of servers that we all really liked. There is a few that work there now that you can hardly understand. The ismel special is an amazing plate.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. Great fajitas, tacos, burritos, and salsa/chips. Staff is very nice, provides good service, and accomodating. Always busy but not too crowded to have a wait.

The service is excellent here, even when theyre busy. Fantastic, authentic Mexican food. Spicy to mild, they have something for everyone as well as great margaritas and ice cold draft beer.

Not sure if it was a fluke or what. I met a date at the bar on Monday and the service was absolutely horrible. It took so long to get drinks that for a minute we thought the staff had quit....

The items here are basically what you would find at your local mexican place but the food was hot and the service was exceptional. Im glad theres a decent place to go to in Fern Creek.

Our weekly stop! Cant go without the margaritas. Love the staff, they are like family. Lomelli fajitas are the family favorite. Ask for the handmade guacamole... Its not on the menu.

My wife and I love Puerto! Best Mexican food in town. The servers are always nice and food comes out quick. The salsa is awesome, if you like spicy food try the Carne a la Mexicana.

Obsessed with their salsa!!! I stop by there just to pick it up for the weekend. Other great choices are the tamale and tortilla chicken soup. Love this place!

Great food, very friendly only thing I would add is the need to be more active in checking your drinks. We were there over an hour with no refill on beverage.

Decent Mexican and drinks. However the staff consistently overcharges. Make sure you do the addition yourself. Today I was overcharged by 8 dollars.

Pretty good mexican fare. Definitely not the best in Louisville but certainly hits the spot if youre craving that type of food. Two thumbs up.
