I give it 5 stars due to being the worst service. The rude woman at the counter with the blonde hair, fidgety ass complex with glasses almost got her ass in some trouble snatching my plate as though Im just a random. I spoken with the manager about my issue with her and ahe said she would speak with her as well as write her up. I dont give a damn about that because she felt my wrath towards her. The menu says "Small Plate" with rib tips written underneath and thats what we wanted but instead she brought us 3 dry rib bones with no meat, no sauce and some dry ass macaroni. I told her that is not what we wanted and she got an attitude instantly, letting me know she has the receipt. First of all, why you still got the receipt for something we paid for already, why werent we handed our receipt? Secondly, why you got an attitude? Thats what you ordered she said, okay thats cool with me but this is not what I wanted. "Do you want the rib tips" I stated, "Yes, I do"! Thats when she snatched the plate and the knife went flying beside me. She came back tonthe table with an larger attitude asking for .50 more. We gave it too her. But all at the same time she got an look from me that she wasnt expecting. I asked her why she have an attitude and she said because you staring at me. I told her Im staring because you snatched the plate and I did not appreciate it at all. Thats when I asked to speak to the manager and she even act like what I had to say did not matter because she never tried to speak to me until I went to her for the second time. She saw that I was not going to let that slide by. The manager told me to come back during the day when shes not around. I told her, "I shouldnt have to come at any certain time to avoid her, I should be able to come in and get better service". I do not appreciate " the help" and I didnt appreciate the managements handling of this situation. But I would never recommend this establish to anyone. My first visit was my last. Dont stop at the pig is what Ill say. Maybe I need to call " Chef Gordon" to check out the pig.

Quite honestly one of the worst, if not worst, barbecue restaurants Ive been to. The fact it gets one star is based almost solely on the very kind lady that was taking our order ... and also partially buoyed by the fact that they seem to have invested in decent canned beans. There was no hint of smoke in any of the meats (we tried the pulled chicken, pork, beef, mutton and ribs) and it was all shredded/pulled and very watery (almost as if it had been frozen and re-heated). The fact all the BBQ was shredded/pulled suggest to me there is no skill whatsoever involved by those cooking the meats. Just chop it, mix it with sauce and serve. Any flavour whatsoever was due to the sauce along which was below average by any standard. Id suggest they switch to Sweet Baby Rays to improve their offerings. The coleslaw was very wet and really just goopy. As mentioned above the beans seemed to be from a can (but at least something like Bushs or of similar decent quality). Im glad I live in Canada so as not to accidentally eat at this place again.

The prices have gotten way out of line. I asked for chicken BBQ with no bread and coleslaw and ice tea. She said, we have cornbread. That sounds good but can I have it on the side. So they counted the cornbread as a side. This cost me $11.70. I asked if you put the BBQ on top of the cornbread then I could have another side, she said yes. How ridiculous! When the food arrived there was just a little small bowl of chicken. It really want enough for a serving. I can honestly say I was still hungry when I left. I could of gone TX Roadhouse and got a steak, salad and baked potato for this much money. Believe me I wont be eating there real soon, because it just cost too much for what you get. This is nothing more than another business being real greedy. When I pay this much for food, I usually have enough to take home and have another meal. Shame on you Ole Hickory Pit!!!!

A disappointing experience all around, except for the server. This is not real BBQ; all shredded meat with very little to no smoke flavour, and very watery. I suspect the meat pit has been converted to heating the restaurant. Everything was masked with the same sauce. I had read all the negative reviews before visiting, and wish I had of steered clear. 1 hour of my life I will not get back, and it was by far the worst BBQ I have ever eaten. It was essentially something I would expect to find out of a can at a $5 all you can eat buffet.

Barbecue mutton had awful gamey "wild" aftertaste. Stomach cramped all night afterwards. I heard the cornbread was good but mine was Burnt and cold. Im Server had attitude when I called in a to-go order at 7:35 for 8:00 (funny because website shows they close at 9) even though I work across the street and called in order same time last week and picked up at 8:10 and people were in dining room. I was gonna give the pork a try but forget it, I dont need to be talked to like a kid by a server that apparently had a bad day! Sorry

I love this place, have been getting take out lunch for years. They have also catered many, many business lunchs for me over the years, as well as take home meals. I called in for a take out lunch today for several only to find out they no longer carry the bar-b-que chicken on the bone (roasted chicken) only pulled chicken. This makes me very sad as it was what I always ordered. Now I will be looking for someplace new!

Had never been before. Arrived 15 minutes before they closed and got take-out. Got home - fell in love. We didnt eat there so all I know of the service was the very nice girl behind the counter. Decor was not my style, but clean. The ribs blow every place in the city of louisville out of the water. I mean that. There is a reason that place has been there for decades.

Their Mac & Cheese IS THE BEST Ive ever eaten!!! I always buy more to take home after the meal. A very good pulled pork sandwich too. The onion and the pickle was a surprisingly good compliment to a great sandwich. We all liked it so much that we had them cater my sons wedding, it was a big hit there too. Really good service and a good place to take a date.

Friendly people and authentic Western Kentucky-style Q. Hickory wood smoking in brick pits, period. No dry rub, no vinegar mops, just low and slow pork, beef, mutton (lamb), and chicken. They have a flavorful mild sauce which comes regular and a good "hot" version by request. Sides are basic, but good tasting and generous.

Im from Georgia and am picky about barbecue. The pork sandwich was good, but I wish it didnt come chopped fine and mixed with sauce. I like to sample it unsauced first. The pan-fried cornbread was a pleasant surprise. This place looks the way a barbecue joint should look. The service was excellent.
