Ive never been to India, but Ive had Indian food of all styles in LA, so I have a pretty good idea of the range. Deshi Curry was a weird experience. The food and service are pretty much what you would expect of new immigrants who are trying to make the transition from home cooking to running a restaurant without any training or guidance. The food IS authentic, but they have some trouble with flow and service. We came at an off time - 4:15 or so - when Passage to India and Majaraha werent open. The chicken curry was good (they use cloves, so beware if you dont like that style of curry), and the mutton was quite nice. Neither of the sauces were thickened. The heat level was just right. The rice was awful (flavorless and obviously left over). The naan was OK. The samosa was served with a bottle of ketchup for some reason (weird Wichita thing?). The dal was excellent but oddly served in a styrofoam coffee cup. If you decide to try Deshi Curry, ask the server what he recomends. If he hesitates or gets a funny look, order something else!

Well.. I love to support local businesses, and I usually love the little Indian cuisine there is in Wichita, and Ive honestly written very few negative reviews in my life. But.. I ordered to go and they messed up the order. I ordered chicken tikka masala and not sure what I received. Chicken on the bone in a sauce? What? My boyfriend ordered lamb curry and I think that was right, but the lamb was also on the bone?! It would have been fine if i got to try a new meal and I liked it - but the dish I received was bland and lacked flavor. I salted, peppered and added curry and cumin before it finally tasted okay. I wouldnt tell someone not to try this restaurant though. Who knows, if i had gotten the dish I wanted, I may have left a 5 star review. I will probably give them another chance in the future so I can actually try the tikka masala.

This is a note more than anything. The restaurant came under new management a couple years ago. Thats why you notice the stark contrast between the bad reviews from years ago and the great more recent ones. I wish Google would remove the old ones. Ive seen a lot of my favorite restaurants go to the wayside and Id hate to see this one do so because of bad reviews of the previous owners. That being said, this place is wonderful. The service is decent. The food is excellent. I recommend the chicken biryani. Their tea is also fantastic. They have a spicy dish with tons of eggplant in it, but I cant think of the name... Anyways, its one of my favorite dishes as well. Just, go there and try it for yourself. You wont be disappointed if you have any taste for AUTHENTIC Indian food.

Me and my fiancé have eaten Indian food all over the country (Boston, Houston, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, DC, Louisiana, etc). We have had good Indian food, and bad Indian food. This restaurant takes the cake for "worst Indian food ever". (1) The Bindi Masala (Okra dish) tasted like a TV dinner. It was like she put okra in the microwave and slapped some salty tomato sauce on it. (2) The Vegetable Samosa appetizers was like a fortune cookie stuffed with a cubed potato and a single pea. (3) The Chana Masala (Chickpea dish) tasted like Spaghetti Os. The customer service was disappointing. They rushed us out because we showed up half an hour before closing. We must conclude that any person who likes this place is VERY unfamiliar with Indian food. :-(

Nice staff, tasty authentic flavors. Try chicken curry combo plate with biryani rice instead. Lots of food for the price. Soup, rice, I ask for boneless chicken and also had side of cooked vegetables with potatoes. Dont expect 5 star atmosphere or treatment, its good though and feels more like a comfort home cooking neighborhood restaurant. Plenty of beverage options and the Naan bread cocked with butter and garlic or however you like it is just amazing too. Kids even like it! Try Chicken Korma for the kids.

This place is awesome! I go here at least once a month or sometimes two to three times. The most authentic India restaurant Ive been to in Wichita... I moved from Boston which has a decent size Indian population so I know good Indian food when I taste it... and this place is delicious. The samosas are so tasty and the garlic nan! I usually get the veggie biryani. I went to Passage to India for the Buffet and it was disgusting, yuck, I never went back. Check this place out and Zaytun right around the corner!

I had mutton curry and got very sick. Dry heaves and the worst diarreah I have ever had. I tried to call and kindly let them know. I wasnt going to put a bad review on. But, I called and called and they wouldnt answer phone and message was full. After 6th call. Woman told me to call after 8:00 even after what I said. I wonder how many other people ate mutton. No one can be 100 % certain, but I was not sick when I went in and the other two people with me did not get sick and they did not eat mutton.

Never ever go!!! You will waste your time and money. If you are true food lover you will disappointed. Frozen Samosha, Bread (Tandor Naan) are reheated and served...I was wondering what is this saag paneer? 3 hard to break paneer cubes floating in huge bowl of liguid with spinach cut like a grass :-)... Veggie fried rice was little good...with low quality oil... All I can say that is these Desi Idiots never change wherever they be...its in blood....sule maklu....

I have had the lunch special at Deshi Curry twice in the past month, and have found the food quite delectable and satisfying. Several entres are offered with a choice of 2 sides and chapatis and and a fried delicacy, all for $5.99. I also ordered a hot chai each time, the best Ive tasted outside of India. Not sure why some gave bad reviews, but they deserve a much better rating right now. Please try them out, and you will be in for a treat.

The service was friendly but incompetent. The Saag Paneer tasted like microwaved frozen spinach with a few spices and no paneer. The rice had obviously been sitting around for a while and was partially dried. The Baingan Bharta was somewhat better than the Saag Paneer, but mediocre at best, with no real good combination of flavors. They comped us some mango lassis, which was really the only redeeming part of the meal.

Im not sure if know what authentic Indian food tastes like, as I didnt start really eating it until a couple years ago, but the food definitely appeals to my Thai-American tastes. Not as fancy as the other two Middle-Eastern restaurants in the area, but a bit cheaper. Ive been here three times, ordering the mutton curry, the combination plate with fish curry, and the Aloo Mutter, and theyve all been quite satisfying.

I really like this place. The guy that works there is really nice and hospitable. I didnt know what to order and he explained the items on the menu. He also made me sweet tea whereas most restaurants Ive visited here just tell me they only have unsweetened tea. The rice with goat meat is delicious!!! I had never had goat meat and rice now Im hooked on it! This place gets 5 stars and 2 thumbs up from me.
