We have always had excellent food and good to excellent service. That it can take awhile to be served is understandable because 1) quality food must be prepared from scratch and takes longer than dishes made up ahead of time or heated in a microwave oven and 2) the place is usually packed with customers who obviously see something of value in this establishment. Wa is hands down our favorite restaurant in Lawrence. I cannot relate to anything that was said by the person who gave Wa only one star and can only conclude they (either he/her or Was staff) were having a bad day. I also note that the individual who gave Wa two stars offers no feedback to justify the low score. Neither low rating was signed with a name. The two low ratings are clearly outliers as evidenced by the 4 or 5 stars by everyone else thus far on the web site and the number of people who flock to this restaurant. It also happens to be a favorite dining place for our former Governor/US Secretary of Health and Human Services and her family, whom we have seen there on more than one occasion.

As advertised on the sign, they claim to be a Japanese Steakhouse but in truth they are far from it. They do however have a wide variety of sushi rolls and sushi. They are elegant and very nice but are lacking in major areas. First of all, we explained that my husband has a food allergy to avacado and to please not prepare his food with or near avacado and our server returned asking us if we would like avacado on his sushi as a topping. We were stunned. Then as I ordered the $15.50 teriyaki chicken dinner entre I assumed Id receive a meal but instead I was served a slice off of a chicken breast that was dry and charred on the edges with a side of 2 tiny pieces of broccoli and 1 carrot slice. I was very disappointed. I did get a side of white rice with my meal so I started eating it but it was dried out as if had been sitting under a heat lamp and was crusty. I left feeling hungry and ripped off. I do not recommend this place at all.

I was very upset with my recent visit to Wa. Not only was the service very unfriendly and not prompt while we were 2 of 4 customers in the whole restaurant. My yellow tail sushi roll was rather warm. The rice was super dry and fell apart before I even picked it up off the plate. I saw it sitting on the bar for a good 10 mins before being brought over to me. Other meal we ordered came with something that resembled a salad. It was brown ice berg lettuce with some carrots thrown on top. The soy sauce was watered down to the point where I couldnt even taste the soy sauce. We had a problem with our order and our owner was not willing to accommodate for their mistake. To add to this, I even got SICK! You cant mess around with raw fish. Never returning to this restaurant again. I will stick to Yokohamas on New Hampshire.

Four of us stopped in on 10/14 for some lunch and we were quite surprised by the pleasant atmosphere, prompt service, and wonderfully delicious food. I had the Ten Don. That was a big bowl but the rice was absolutely the best I have ever tasted. I found out later their secret. My wife had a Sushi Combo and our guests had a Bento Box and a Tempura plate. We all left very full and very pleased with the experience. It is a shame we live so far away. If you are ever in Lawrence, KS, you should try the Wa. You wont be disappointed.

The sushi we ordered was dry and one of my rolls had a piece of wood in it--not pleasant. I ordered a roll with crab in it, and its way too expensive for what is provided; the tiniest sliver of (what I can only assume is imitation) crab, and mostly cucumber. It was no better than standard buffet style sushi. Didnt have a chance to try any other food, so this opinion is based purely on the sushi.

I dont eat fish. But my husband does and he loved it. He lived in Miami his entire life, until he moved to Kansas. He said this was the 2nd best place he has ever had sushi. He ordered 2 boats, and they were impressive. We shared gyoza and it was amazing, tender, moist, wonderful flavor. I had cheese ramen, which was spicy and delicious. I will be going back frequently.

First time at Wa. Normally go to Prime Blu on Mass and Im sad that I didnt. Went during lunch hour. The place had maybe 4 other tables and it took at least 40 minutes just to get a sushi out. Sushi was warm, needlessly to say not well prepared. Absolutely awful. Extremely disappointed. It then took 15 minutes just to get the check. Do yourself a favor and keep walking past.

I loved this place. The atmosphere is relaxing, the service was excellent, and I had the best salmon skin roll Ive eaten in 20 years. They have a nice selection of sake, we had two bottles, and they were both presented beautifully as well as being delicious. The rest of the meal was equally good, and I will be coming back whenever Im in Lawrence.

Its a go to spot for sushi. Ive been nothing but impressed with the service, sushi rolls, and atmosphere. Theres a large selection of different sushi rolls as well as side dishes, apitezers, and salads. Expect about $10.00 per person. 10/10 will always visit again.

Good sushi for Lawrence, service can be a bit lax, but I feel its a good value. I do wish they would take the plastic wrap off of the fish on the sushi bar when they open. I dont automatically think "fresh" when I see Saran-wrapped tuna from who knows when...

This place is so delicious! Really great food. My boyfriend and I went there for out first date a year ago and again yesterday for our one year anniversary. ❤ So this restaurant holds a special place in my heart! Get the vegetable tempura, it is to die for!

This is my favorite sushi place in town! I love the service and all of the servers are nice, polite, and knowledgable. The food is of high quality and I enjoy treating myself to it whenever I can. If you are a fan of sushi, you have to at least try it out!

All the rolls tasted very good, the "Viking roll" was definitely the table favorite. The "heart attack" roll is listed as very spicy but Id prefer a little more heat. Service was good, almost too formal for my taste.

I love the specialty sushi rolls. Ive there many times and everyone I came out happy and satisfied. Also, I tried the Saki one time which comes with a Bud-light, and unexpectedly, its really good and tasty.

Best sushi in Lawrence and they havent had any health code violations like some others in town. Really clean and not to expensive. Only knock would be the seats are pretty close to each other.
