Word of mouth about how good Five Guys is encouraged my girlfriend and I to eat here once it opened here in West Des Moines IA. We ordered 2 burgers, 2 fries, and 1 milkshake. Our total came out to be $28 and I was a little taken back by the price. I figured if the food was that good, I could live with the price. The burger was nothing to get excited about. It was not great, not bad, just average. Fries were surprisingly good. I thought the fries were the only decent part of my meal, though I dont feel like they were good enough for me to ever get the urge to go back and get them again. The milkshake was the biggest disappointment. This thing was not a shake at all, just pure liquid. Im actually pissed about the shake. lol In conclusion, I totally regret spending $28 here. This is the most time Ive spent on a review, and I hope that tells people just how horrible this food is. I believe that FIve Guys is probably good food, just not at this West Des Moines location. I did run into a friend a few days ago and asked him if hed had Five Guys yet, and he told me hed worked there for about 3 hours before he quit. He told me it was dirty filthy and he couldnt stand it.

Tried this place for the first time today. The burger was pretty good, but that was it. The very first thing I noticed, is there is no drive through. Not a huge deal, but I was hoping there would be one, rather than having to go in. Second thing I noticed was peanuts galore, they have bags of them for you to eat out of, and the shells just end up on the floor. Their fries are also fried in peanut oil. If you are allergic to peanuts in any capacity, DO NOT GO HERE!! Thirdly, its pretty chaotic during rush hours. Its just an open kitchen with people making the patties and everyone else putting the burgers together. You get an order number so they can call it out, but really you could get yours before the people before you, depending on what you order. Anyway, I paid 16 bucks, for a bacon cheeseburger, regular fry and a large drink. Pretty steep compared to the competitors. As mentioned previously, the burger was pretty good. The fries however were pretty soggy and waaaaay to salty. I couldnt even finish mine, because I ran out of my drink. My drink even though I ordered a large was the size of a medium from elsewhere.

We had family things to do so we stopped for a quick bite. My wife and I both got the bacon cheese burger and we ordered fries to share. I got the small coffee shake and my wife ordered a soft drink. The person behind the counter told me my total and it was $35. I was very surprised by this, seams like a lot for just a couple of burgers and fries. I paid and moved on to wait for my food. The food took a while but they were busy. There was no where to sit so we ate in the car. The burger was ok but not that great for what they want you to pay. The fries were fresh cut which is nice but they were soggy and not crispy at all. The one thing I did love was the coffee shake. It was made with actual coffee beans which is always nice. I dont think I would go back knowing that I could get better burgers at much cheaper prices just down the road (Im talking like red robin not some cheap fast food). Nice concept but just not for me.

There is much fanfare for this newer place in West Des Moines and for good reason. The burgers are quite good. Ive been here twice and while its not my favorite place for a meal, its not a bad option. The burgers start off with two patties and you can completely customize to your liking. The fries are always fresh and hot, but to-me seem under-cooked and almost soggy (Ive felt this way after both of my visits). They also specialize in milkshakes. I tried vanilla with my last visit. It was cold and delicious, but just on-par with every other place that makes a shake. The speed is relatively fast and the environment is unique. As you walk in, grab a bowl of peanuts, place your order and grab a seat. The burgers wont disappoint, but dont expect a gourmet experience. 4 Stars overall - I think the hype set me up for disappointment.

Friday was our third visit to this location and probably our last. While preparing the burgers a guy picked up a paper towel roll that fell on the floor and was kicked by another guy. He tore off a couple of sheets to get rid of the exposed pieces instead of chucking the roll, fine however he did this over the burgers, including mine :(. After putting the dirty roll back on the holder he proceded to craft burgers without changing gloves which is an issue. I probably should have hung out and told the manager but holy cow were they busy. I can imagine the commotion that probably would have happened if they had to redo 4 or so burgers so I just chucked mine in the trash can and went on with my fries and shake which were good as usual. I always appreciate your friendly staff but you may want to discuss sanitary and contamination issues them.

They were not busy when we showed up and yet the place was a mess. Every table had stuff on it, shells on the floor and tables. There was a point where all but 1 employee disappeared and nobody was cleaning. We had never been here before and the cashier was dismissive of that acting like we should know the backwards way this place operates. 1 burger, 1 small burger, 2 small fries, and 1 small drink was $25 and some change. Seriously? I could sit down at an actual restaurant, be treated like a human being and eat better food for that. If the employees didnt make minimum wage I could see the price being justified, but thats not the case. Quite frankly this is my first and last time at 5 guys. The food was decent, about the quality of Bbops in my opinion. I will not be back.

Not sure what the hype is all about. Way over priced burger for being about as good as Wendys. The fries were limp and greasy and nobody ate them. On top of all of that the guy sweeping the dining room threw an empty peanut holder on our table then told my wife that the peanut shells dont belong on the floor. She was already using an emptied holder for her shells. This was my second and last trip to this over priced, over hyped restaurant. I can get a great burger, with fries at a number of places in Des Moines so I wont go back here. The first trip was basically the same minus the rude employee in the dining room, but I thought maybe it was just an off night. They proved me wrong with an average burger and bad fries on trip two also.

It was our first time at a Five Guys , the cashier asked if it was then explained the menu. Regular burgers have 2 patties, small has 1, there are plenty of condiments for your sandwich. The fries come plain or Cajun, small fry will serve 2 to 3. I can usually eat a double cheeseburger , this was almost 2 much. Both the burger and fries had good taste, the burgr was juicy without being soggy. They are expensive, small cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, small fry and two sodas was $24.00 The only issue was another customer that did not know his number, walked out with our order then came back to complain. The manager made sure our order was made quickly the second time. Overall, good food but pricey. .
