This is our first choice for Chinese. Whether its because Hong Kong is close to home with the cheapest buffet in town, drinks included; or because they have reliable speedy home delivery service. We prefer the no frills dining atmosphere, it shows on the menu with their inexpensive offerings, and no wait staff to interrupt your dine in meal. We make regular visits, because it is affordable. IMHO they have the best General Tsos chicken Ive had to date, simply request extra spicy pepper, you wont be disappointed! My partner loves the sesame chicken, since you can actually taste the sesame, as opposed to the blandness of competitors. The local family roots shine through in the food, with quality base ingredients, and authentic Chinese recipe.

I have loved Hong Kong for 13 years now. Ever since my ex boyfriend made me try their chicken fried rice. They have the best egg drop soup in town. It is my cure all. When im sick i absolutely have to have it. The only disappointment i have ever had with them is that they replaced what i believe to be bean sprouts in their chicken fried rice with standard white onion and its still amazing just not a amazing as it once was. The staff is also very friendly and take amusement in how often i have to have their soup and a few other key items. They generally try to predict my order as soon as a reach the counter.-Jamie

I got lazy and didnt feel like driving to Tsing Tao or Dragon House so I thought I would give this place a try. We got a simple take out order with Potstickers and Chicken Fried Rice. The potstickers were extremely doughy and tasted like they were frozen. The fried rice was dry and tasteless. When I picked up the food the whole restaurant had a strong odor and was dated. They had a buffet table but I can only image what that looked like...

Some of the food isnt especially great, but... You can count on consistent excellence in the la la chicken, the mushroom pork, the spring rolls, the beef and scallions, the hot-and-sour and egg-drop soups and a few others. Personally, I would like more of the chicken dishes if they werent breaded. Overall, its one of the best buffet values in town with a price that includes fountain drink or ice tea.

Terrible food and terrible service. They obviously couldnt have cared less about their customers. There were dirty dishes on multiple tables from previous customers and the help just sat at the front talking. We were there for about 30-45 minutes and they never got up to clean the tables. The food was old and tasted like it had been out for about 10 hours straight. I wont go there again.

My girlfriend and I are big fans of Chinese food. She had never been here (Ive gone numerous times with my co-workers), so I took here there for lunch today. Overall, its very consistent food. Its a local/family run shop. Everything was fresh, hot and well maintained. Definitely dont judge a book by its cover because youll miss out on something delicious!

Amazing. Every Time. The cleanest buffet in Des Moines with the absolutely freshest food around, always prepared from scratch, no MSG or crap in it, options for everyone, buffet or menu plus they will make you whatever your heart desires. These guys have been open for a long time and deserve 10 stars. Thank You Hong Kong!

Hong Kong is our "go to" Chinese restaurant. They have a buffet which is their main deal and it hasnt changed much in 10 years. Its reliable, relatively fresh, soft drinks are included, and no waitstaff. Not much variety compared to other Chinese buffets but who cares, my wife and I love this place.

Been coming here for 10 years, and always loved it. Always. Now after renovations, the place looks modern and now Hong kong Chinese restaurant can shine more. Food is great as always and service good as always. Good affordable place with drinks included and not to mention, the good has good quality

This is terrible food. It tastes bad. Bad tasting wontons, bad tasting egg rolls, horrible noodles, chewey beef, breading on chicken has terrible flavor, is over breaded and is spongy. Even though it is super cheap, it is not worth it. Pay a little more for some edible food.

The prices are very cheap and the food is pretty good. The family there are always welcoming when my boyfriend and come in, were regulars there. The hot and sour soup is one of my favorite!

Ive been eating at hong kong for a few years now. They seem to be the cheapest place to enjoy a Chinese buffet and they pass my must have list...sauted green beans and chicken on a stick!

Pretty good food. Nothing amazing, but consistently good. The sweet and sour actually tastes like a sauce instead of a microwaved canned good and the triple delight was pretty good.

Just got it ordered up to our hotel room(staybridge suites) and everything was outright amazing. Roast Pork egg rolls, lo mein, and combo fried rice. Definitely recommend.

The food had a nice taste quality but there was not a very wide selection and the place felt a little dirty. Its okay for the price but not the best place for Chinese food.

The sesame chicken was hard enough you could break your teeth. The spring rolls, crab Rangoon, and sugar balls were good just not main course.

If you can get beyond the strong smell of fryer and the dated decor, the food is good and reasonably priced. Crab Rangoon are awesome!

They have you pay first, theres a reason for that. We lasted 2 min before walking out. Hungry for Chinese? Keep driving.

Nothing special, cheep prices and the food reflects it. Sweet and sour sauce has a strange burnt orange flavor
