Ive long since been telling others that Buffet City is one of Des Moines best hidden gems. A quiet, attractive family restaurant with delicious food, more than reasonable prices, very good customer service, and an emphasis on quality, it always amazes me that Buffet City isnt significantly more popular than it currently is.. Everyone Ive ever taken there absolutely loved it. The buffet isnt huge, but its not tiny, either. Theres a reasonably good selection of excellent quality food. There is also a sushi bar and Mongolian grill that is simply another part of the buffet. My best friend went out to dinner there tonight, and both of us were able to get thirds of delicious food for about $28.00 or so, plus tip. Buffet City has been my favorite restaurant for years, and for good reason. If youve never been there, I highly recommend checking it out. Buffet City is the best!

Really great buffet. In my opinion they went down when they took out the grill part of it. Other than that really good place to eat at I know i brought my son their about 5 years ago and the owner who is typically running the cash register check some tables time to time helped us and told us a very valuable secret on getting the full crab legs meat which he even cracked some open for us which you know that guy works really hard to make his customers really happy. Food does get cod if you pick it up and put it on your plate while your talking which that is your fault for not eating it as soon as you get to the table. overall this will always be my go to place to eat chinese because it is close to home. bamboo is also a good place to eat as well just only when im on that side of town

"Asqueroso" lugar, quise tomar unas piezas de pollo cuando miré que habia un cabello en la comida, le avise al encargado y tan solo retiro el pelo y no todo el traste, y ni siquiera una disculpa o algo, en otro dia intentaron cobrarme más, tan solo me dijeron que se habían equivocado... no vuelvo a regresar ally ni mucho menos lo recomiendo

My husband and I will NEVER eat here again. I only ever write reviews if I really enjoy or really HATE somewhere. I will start by saying if I could give it negative stars I would IN A HEARTBEAT!!! Nothing my husband and I got was good. It was either tasteless or just plain GROSS. Nothing was hot. I did not even eat a plate of food and I literally had to go to the bathroom and throw up my food. Not sure if it was it just being that gross or from it sitting for only God knows how long. My husbands complaints were just about the same as mine. He added one because he had their "salmon". He couldnt even tell for sure if it was salmon. I would NEVER suggest this place to ANYONE!!!! GROSS GROSS gross!!!!!

I wish i could give zero stars. We went there a little after dinner time has started. Me and family got plates to the table to realize that all the food on each of our plates was cold and dry. Their food has been sitting there for hours it seemed like. I got some of general saos chicken and spit it out due to what i thought was chicken seemed like it was not it looked gross. We confronted boss, the boss made us pay for all of our food after we told them we were not paying for none of it. We didnt even eat none of the food and they still made us pay. Will never go back again and reccommend know one to ever eat at this place. Worst food experience ever.

There was so much hype about this buffet that my kids and I just had to try it. If it hadnt been for the waitress we would have refused to pay the $24 they charged for the three of us. We filled one plate each, left 3/4 of it filled another plate with different things and the waitress took most of it away too. She did keep our glasses topped off and asked if we needed anything. Sad to say but the small town Chinese buffets blew this one out of the water. Centerville Iowa and Creston Iowa have Chinese buffets that would be worth the trip. Sadly dissapointed. Felt like a complete waste of money. Stopped by Kum&Go got some candy and headded home.

I to had scary dining episode was upto my thing got my plate jumped back when I saw this roach he was a quick little bugger and disappeared but I did get a somewhat good look at his antenna side and I could almost swear I saw slanted eyes and round black rim glasses and yellow buck teeth so right away i thought to myself the only way I would maybe or maybe not return unless a orkin man offers to buy my lunch and only when his inspection is final and complete on a more serious note bug was real sianara

I used to love this place until I had roaches swoop around on my plate once i picket it up to put food on it. I took it to the guy (Owner or worker) who was near me and eating to show him that there is a roach on my plate. He acted like he was shocked and SMASHED the roach with his palm right in front of me!! LOL I swear to god, just BAAAMMM!!!!! I went back to my table and didnt say a word to my family until we got home......

Ive been here three times so far, and though the food is really good, the service is mediocre. The server is prompt to pick up used serving ware, and prompt to bring you the check, but has failed each visit to provide a refill for the drink! I overheard the servers complaining about the tip amounts theyve been receiving, but theyre still not refilling those drinks. As for price, it is a fair one for a buffet such as this.

Bad place, nasty food, cold food, they tried to cover their nastiness in front of me, they wanted me to still pay offering me a 10% off of 35 when we barely touched our food ( to find out it was drie and cold) and had a horrible experience. Do not eat here I promisse u they keep their lunch food all the way through dinner and when they bring fresh food out they mix the old food with the fresh food I saw it with my own eyes.

Was looking for a place to eat last night decided to try buffet city..... ended up walking out... we had food from every area that was cold.... the crab legs were cold.... the shrimp were cold.... the crawfish were cold..... all after coming off of the heating bins..... we left because of that and we know thag certain foods have to hold certain temps in holding trays or they will spoil.....WILL NEVER BE GOING AGAIN!!!

This was my first time. For a $7 lunch buffet, the spread was quite nice. I tried a couple of pieces of sushi, which was decent, but nothing spectacular. Most importantly, all the food looked fresh and recently cooked. The peanut chicken was a little sweet, but very good, as was the honey chicken. None of the waitresses looked happy, so that was a bit uninviting. Overall, I will definitely go back.
