Its unfortunate... that this is the best restaurant for Mexican food in Ankeny. The food is good when you get what you order. They mess something up every other time we dine here. Chicken vs. beef, ground beef vs. shredded beef. No salt on the rim of our margaritas. We are always so pleasant when we ask them to fix the margarita, and then I watch them pour the messed up margarita into a new glass, taking most of the salt with it. We dined in the bar last night and were looking forward to margaritas, but then I noticed they were making the margaritas from a cooler behind the bar. I asked if I could have one made fresh and he said it would cost me more. Really? Cost more for supposedly the same margarita? Sorry, but I have no idea whats in the cooler and the margaritas always seem very weak. It will be a while before we go back. That was an unacceptable answer for me. Margaritas at home from now on.

Worst Mexican Restaurant in Ankeny. The girl at the front when you open the door just stares at you and not friendly at all. I have dinned in before and tried carry out. My last carry out experience was awful I had hair in my food. I called Cazadors to tell them and the manager on the phone called me a liar which I could tell this must happen ALL the time. Then the manager spoke Spanish to get me off the phone. Depends on who you get serving your food will depend on what quality of food and the price. Its never the same which I order the same thing every time. You have to grab someones attention for anything but when you seem like your gonna leave trust me they rush right over with the bill. The food seemed to be reheated and had a crusty outside to it. I would never go to Cazadors EVER! Way over priced for how your treated and quality of the food.

Best chips and salsa in town. Too bad EVERYTHING else on the menu is absolutely TERRIBLE! At first I thought it was just a fluke that the burrito was super-nasty. I had one bite and they refused to take it off my bill. If I hadnt had 3 margaritas I might have complained more persuasively. On our next visit I had the chimi - equally awful! On the next visit (why in the bleep did we even give them another try?!) we ordered the nacho and they were the worst tasting yet! Go for the free chips and salsa. Spring for the top shelf margaritas but stay away from everything else on the menu. btw- it helps if you speak a bit of Spanish because none of the staff are fluent english speakers.

When my wife and I moved to the Des Moines area we didnt think that any Mexican restaurant could live up to the one in our hometown. Cazador changed our perception of good Mexican food, it is simply the best that there is. There is not a poor choice on the menu, although I would strongly recommend the Chimichangas... They are made from home-made tortillas which you realize the minute the food enters your mouth. Even the chips & salsa are a perfect mildness to satisfy any visitor. Forget Carlos O Kellys, get a taste of the best Mexican food in the state!

Chili Verde looked like cat vomit. Instead of big tender chunks of pork shoulder or stew meat it was tiny hard clumps of loin. The Verde was thin and flavorless. Taquitos were burnt and the meat had maybe cinnamon and the main spice but otherwise pretty flavorless. The salsa was good but they charge for refills. Only saw our server when dropping off food. Did this entire review while waiting on the check.

I read all these reviews from all these mid westerners speaking of authentic Mexican food. Please...... I am from Texas son, and I grew up on "Authentic Mexican" food. Cazador is the real deal. The service is amazing, the food is simple but flavorful, the cheese sauce is one of the best I have ever tasted, and the price is reasonable (about $23.00 without the tip for two adults with no alcohol ordered).

First time visiting and it was great - I ordered the Cazador Burrito and it was HUGE! Much bigger than I expected. I tried the steak version but I would probably go with the chicken version next time. Very friendly staff and they seem to enjoy themselves while at work. It makes for a fun and laid back atmosphere. Highly recommend checking it out!

The reviews of this restaurant are so misleading!!!! They talk of authentic Mexican food and my husband is Mexican and from California and it is the real deal!! Everything from the homemade chorizo to the homemade tortillas!!! If you want Taco Bell then go to Taco Bell! Our hats off to the people of Cazador!!! What a great family business!!!!

Thee best Mexican restaurant in Ankeny. Service is amazing and very quick. Food is out in 5-10 mins with in ordering. The chips and salsa are AMAZING!!!! Dont eat too many because they are addicting and you wont have room for your main meal. The beans and rice are to die for. Love everything about it!!! Me gusta Cazadors!!!!

This is by far the best Mexican food around! Ive had the chicken fajitas-serving size was too big to finish. The Cazador burrito and chicken chimichanga are delicious. The staff and ownership are great as well. Ive eaten at all the other Mexican restaurants around town and they dont quite compare to Cazador.

12:30 Saturday ordered from the lunch menu. Selected a beef burrito for $7.50. When I got the bill it was $10.00. Apparently the menu prices only reflect weekdays. Weekend lunches are priced at dinner prices. $10.00 for one burrito is way too expensive. This was runny, bland and filled primarily with rice.

Not authentic. This is american mexican food. Garbage. The "tostadas" were actually one giant toastada with ground beef and salsa on top. The beef is too moist, the taco shells were soaked when they came to the table. If this place is the best Ankeny has to offer Im fleeing for the border.

Cazador has a cozy atmosphere, with friendly staff that provide reliable service. Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of Mexican food, but I always enjoy my visits to Cazador. I have become particularly find of their enchiladas, especially the enchiladas chipotle!

Ive been to several Mexican restaurants in the Des Moines and Ankeny area and this is the only one Id go back to. If youre looking for authentic tasting Mexican food go to Cazador. It might not be perfect but its the best youre gonna get in this area.

Great food and great hospitality. Never had an issue with anyone who just speaks Spanish and we used to eat there at least once a week. I do not drink margaritas but I hear they are great and the best around.
