As I leave my hometown of Ames, I am saddened to also leave this wonderful authentic Chinese eatery! Kevin, the handsome young man in a baseball cap will help you find something sensational, if you are overwhelmed by the vast array of choices! I recommend the dry braised dishes, or black bean curded...but Im sorry to say I havent had a chance to try more of the menu! The people who greet and serve are all wonderful, and they work very hard to keep your taste buds happy! If you are afraid to stray far from an Americanized version, they have the BEST crab rangoons EVER, almost a dessert dish! If you take a date, there are many impressive flamboyant dishes to try as well. Please give them a try! Id take them with me if I could.

Yuck! Ive tried this place twice. The first time I ordered the easy general Taos chicken and it was full of breading and very sugary. Against my better judgement, I went back to this place and ordered chicken with garlic sauce, again a very simple dish but it was the most disgusting thing Ive been had. Whatever they gave me was clearly not chicken. It was so nasty and made me nauseous all day after only eating two bites. Stay away. There are other good places to eat in Ames.

Not sure what happened but their once great tasting food went down hill. We ordered at least weekly, if not more, when they first opened, everything was so good. But in the past couple of months, something changed and the taste is almost horrible; to where its thrown out as a waste of money. Now we get undercooked veggies and meat, poor smell, poor taste..the whole lot. Unfortunately, I would no longer recommend.

My fiance and I went there around 9:30 at night and were seeted very quickly and got our drinks in less than a minute. We took a while ordering our food, as their menu is very diverse which is a huge plus, and after we did order we got the food really quick and it was fresh and delicious. We only ate half till we were really full. I definitely recomend this place

Love the service and the price at Szechuan House. Their fried rice is to die for, and the way they make their fried dumplings is sooo good. They have a huge variety of dishes here. They have dishes for people who are just trying Chinese food for the first time, and then traditional dishes like a full fried fish or hot pot.

Tried it for the first time the other day. I ordered delivery and they showed up before they were said to by about ten minutes. Personally I was happy about that since I was hungry. The food was hot and excellent portions. The flavor was great as well. I ordered online which was easy. I will be ordering from them again.

Best Chinese food in Ames (besides Taste Place, which is authentic and doesnt have much of an ambience). Huge portions, quality chicken, amazing sweet crab rangoons, and a good lunch special. They also deliver to my house in north Ames! Its a little pricy for dinner, but I can easily make two meals out of it.

Ordered take out yesterday and today. Both days were excellent. Pan Fried Thick Rice Noodles w/Beef, Potstickers yesterday and Singapore-style Pan Fried Vermicelli w/Chicken, Shanghainese Spring Rolls and Scallion Pan Fried Cakes today. Both days didnt disappoint. Will return next time I am in town.

The wrong food was brought out to us initially, and when we did get our correct appetizer, there was a plastic wrapper mixed into the crab/cream cheese portion of the crab rangoon. Additionally, my General Tsos breaded chicken dish turned out to be 75% breading chunks and 25% actual chicken.

Always stop in when Im in the IC area for their Pork with Pickled Pepper so Im glad theres a location in Ames. Eggplant with Chile sauce is good too! The menu is gigantic so its fun to try new things. Stick to the Szechuan food because its the restaurants strongest point.

Very authentic and also pretty expensive! Fried rice is nice but I havent ventured much outside of that. The appetizers are pretty good but sometimes overpriced. The cold chili chicken appetizer is the best one Ive had so far! It has just the right amount of spice.

The food is great and portions are very generous. Service was good and we got seated quickly. I would recommend this place based on these reason. The only con is the fact that the atmosphere is kind of cold and open, otherwise a great location

The pad Thai was microwave quality and the food was very bland. It tasted like buffet food. The crab Rangoons were very good, but the sweet and sour sauce was like duck sauce. May House is far better tasting food for a fraction if the price.

Worst dining experience ever. I seriously dont get why this people are asking for more tips here. I gave them $2 tip and they got pissed coz Im suppose to pay them 10% tip. Which was $3. Ever since then I stopped buying food from them.

I would like this restaurant. I would. But how am I supposed to tell my friends what this place is called? Do I pronounce it "ess chzeck ooo an"? Should I just call it "the house". Management needs to fix this nomenclature with haste.

This is in my opinion the upscale Chinese restaurant around Ames. The food is good, the location is pretty strategic. I would recommend bringing your friend or family here to try some of their popular dish; spicy and crispy chicken.

If youre American, come hoping to eat something new. This authentic restaurant will not dissapoint an adventurous eater. Look for the specials and trust the cooks. Of youre looking for basic American Chinese, look elsewhere.

I spent over 40 dollars for just two simple dishes. Way too over priced, and the food is just okay. Wont go over there anymore. What my friend told me is totally correct. Way too expensive for that quality of food.

I ordered the Sichuan Beef and it was rather good. The plate was served within 15 minutes of my order and it was served at a hot temperature. The vegetables in the dish were fresh and tender crisp.

Fantastic food. The menu is pretty extensive and can be vague. If you arent sure what something is, or need a recommendation, just ask your server, they are super friendly.

The BEST Asian food I have had. Until I ate here, I was so disappointed with Asian food in Ames. Now Im moving away from Ames and wishing I had eaten here more often.

This one is great for groups. The plates you order are simple and homogeneous on your own but the tables have a round spinny thing for sharing. Food is fantastic.
