Got Pad Tai. Asked if it can be gluten free. Owner said yes. My friend got chicken fried rice. Asked if they could make it without egg. Owner said yes. Long story short Im sick now cause it was not gluten free like he said it would be. And my friend found egg in his meal and even pointed it out and he brought back the same dish that had egg in it cause he found more. We both have allergies. And owner didnt worry or listen. Cheap food is not always better. Leaves me to believe what else is neglected in his food preparation. Beware of this. As I dont recommend this place. Its one thing to mess things up on a order but now Im sick and cant speak for my friend yet but Im sure hes on his way.

I was so looking forward to getting food from this "4.1/5" star place, unfortunately it is no where near 4.1 stars... Where do I start: How about the fact that the Lo Mein I ordered was plain- and when I say plain I dont mean lo mein that doesnt have vegetables in it, but I mean I basically got boiled noodles with no sauce what so ever, majority of my food was filled with vegetables , the crab rangoons were cold & and the filling was sour the sauce that came with the rangoons was like jelly... This truly shows you cant trust ratings it was a waste of 20 bucks... Im sorry but I am never coming here again. This is sad.

House of Chen is a fantastic little place to eat. Their vegetables are fresh, their meat is of the highest quality and they wont leave a hole in your wallet. Lunch is a cup of soup, eggroll and entree for under $6. Dinner is slightly more expensive, but you get a ton of food. The only cricitism is that the decor has remained reletively unchanged in the 15 years Ive been going to this restaurant. But, Ive been going for 15 years, and the quality and wonderful staff (its a family owned business) has kept me more than satisfied.

House of Chen will be moving to a new location on Lincoln Ave this fall and I and most of their clientele will be following them. The food is good, the prices are reasonable but the real draw is the family that owns this restaurant. They are warm, they come to know you over time so you feel welcome, and they strive for excellence in all things. Good Chinese food is hard to come by in Ames but House of Chen is one of the better Chinese restaurants Ames has to offer. Try their Mo Shu!

Though I grew up out of state Ive had family in Ames my whole life and House of Chen is our favorite. Being that Ive been going there since toddlerhood, Chens is the compass by witch I judge all other Chinese food restaurants, seldom have I had better. Dishes favored by myself and family members include, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Chicken with Green Beans, Kung Pao, Sesame or Hot Braised Chicken, honestly, Ive enjoyed almost every dish Ive tried. You owe it to yourself to give them a try.

Best Chinese in Ames by far! Really like their lo-mein. They serve you a huge plate at dinner for less than $10. Great egg rolls and their broccoli beef is awesome. I also like their kung pao chicken. The only problem I have with it is the lication on E. Lincolnway. Its not as convenient as it could be in that part of town and the new location ids much smaller than the location they had when they were at North Grand. Still love the food and service.

I wish more people knew and would go to this place. Great service and a nice quiet casual atmosphere. I always okay not always usually get the fo with chicken instead of beef. Otherwise garlic chicken and vegetables. Its hard for me not to get my normals. But I guarantee everything is good. Back in the day they used to be behind our Mall it was the first Chinese food Id ever had.

Okay. I dont know what people are talking about here. I ordered Egg rolls, Potstickers, and Mongolian Beef. There was hardly anything in the egg rolls. The pot stickers were either not seared, or burnt. Also they had bits of other food on it like broccoli and onions. My mongolian beef was BLAND. Like they didnt season it at all, it had 0 taste.

This food tastes like warm paste. Chicken pieces are so small I cant tell if there is any chicken in there. Also the breading is slimy. Rice is so overcooked its just mush. Really just all around bland mush and when I say bland I ordered a spicy option and it is tasteless. I decided to trash the food and go to somewhere else.

One of Ames favorite places, especially now that you can order the combination plates (on the lunch menu). Kung pao chicken, pad thai chicken, hot and sour soup, and egg drop soup are our favorites, but everything looks very good. Seats only a few (a dozen tables/booths or so). Closed Sundays.

Only bad thing about eating here is having to choose between my favorites! Love the Moo Goo Gai Pan, Sesame Chicken, Chicken & Green Beans, Garlic Chicken. Family that own it is super friendly. Great place for a relaxed meal!

Best food Ive ever tasted in America! Their Chicken Pad Thai is the best. Ive tried pad thai is 7 other thai or Asian restaurants across the US. Nothing satisfies me as much as House of Chen.

Had Happy Family, a chicken, shrimp, beef combo. High quality ingredients and large portion, but sauce lacked any distinctive flavor. Clean and comfortable atmosphere.

Our server was a little rushed and grumpy the last time we were here, but this has been a family favorite for many years. We miss the location behind the mall.

Good food like old times, new location. I think even prices may have gone a bit down. It was good to be able to go there after long time.
