Off the bat, I was excited. I love Indian food and when I first arrived I was worried. The look from the outside isnt nice. Looks very low quality. Didnt help we were the only people here.. Then I walked in. Amazing interior. The decorations were beautiful, paintings, plants, wine. The inside has way better looks than the outside. We got our table, ordered, and the food arrived before we knew it. We got samosas for an appetizer, and chicken curry for or entrée. The samosas were absolutely perfect, very crisp with just the right amount of spice. Then came the chicken curry, and my god, the chicken was so tender and delishous! We got naan for our side, and people saying it was frozen were completely wrong, this was easily the best naan Ive had. The interior design and the food I had no problems with. My only reason for putting a 4 star review was because of one reason, and this is the main thing I think a restaurant should have. Music! Quiet music in a restaurant makes it better in my opinion. Like I said, we were the only two there so it got pretty awkward. That could be fixed with some quiet music playing. Overall an amazing restaurant, and I will be going again.

I went for a quick eat here recently after hearing about it from some colleagues. To say the least, I was unimpressed when my order was served. I consider myself a connoisseur of Indian cuisine(after having enjoyed it at places across the country!) so I have a fairly good judgement of well and not-so-well prepared meals. The latter describes Indian Delights well. I was expecting an established restaurant like this to serve me everything fresh however this is definitely not the case. The Naan bread, a hallmark of Indian meals, was pre-made frozen naan that was just warmed up and buttered. Furthermore, the entrees looked as if they were picked up from a grocery store and just warmed up. Service was good and the overall ambiance was nice. However, for something a whole lot more authentic and fresh, the other Indian restaurant around here(India Palace, I believe its called) wins hands down.

Recently while working at ISU I stopped by the Welch Ave location of Indian Delights. After walking in I came to realize that my options for a vegetarian meal were somewhat limited in choices. I have this tendency to grab food to go and head back to the hotel and eat alone. During my conversation with the owner she informed me that their location on Dotson Drive had a full menu and would be a wonderful dining experience, thinking I would order and head back to the room, it was soon apparent from the smells coming from the kitchen that it would be a disservice to myself and the chef not to experience dining at this gem of a location. Great staff! Food that excites the taste buds due to someone who is preparing their dishes with love. Looking forward to my next visit to Ames, IA. Thanks to Dipak and Asha Biswas for providing this dining experience.

The worst service Ive ever seen in my life so far. Appetizers alone took more than 30mins to arrive, while the food took almost 1hour and half. Infact, the food for another group arrived only a mintue later, although they came in much after we did (>30mins). Racism, probably? The waiter suggested Malai Kofta as being the most spicy vegetarian choice. Man, do you even know what spicy is? Moreover, since when did Malai Kofta started having full vegetable stuffing with no traces of Malai in the kofta? You take more than an hour to serve, and the best you serve for naan is some defrosted piece of bread? Dont get me started on the portion sizes and the price. This place sucks big time! Wouldnt even recommend it to my worst enemy and dare not step in again in my life! Did I not tell you that their plates were dirty and had traces of food?

Ive been to Indian restaurants in several countries on several continents, and this is one of the best! When you arrive at the place it looks somewhat underwhelming, but make no mistake - the chef is very skilled in making Indian food! Servings are not huge, but they are extremely tasty, so I could make do with one main course but ended up ordering two, simply because it was so good! Price was good; 2 main courses, a coke and a beer for $20. Service was very friendly, especially the owner, and food arrived in just a few minutes after ordering. As any Indian food, it is quite spicy, but its very balanced, so unless you do not care for spicy food at all, I highly recommend going there if you are around Ames/Des Moines!

Greeted by the owner who opened the doors before opening time and invited us in until staff arrived. Excellent hospitality! The ambiance was excellent, wait staff was informative an non intrusive but always available. The food was top notch and obviously fresh, the owners were also working at the front and in the kitchen. Entire place was clean. This is a great place for a "nice" dinner date! I read the reviews before we went but we always check places out for ourselves. im not sure what the 1 star rating is all about because i found the place to be one of the nicer places in Ames! we WILL be back and i will refer all of my friends and clients!

The restaurant always seems closed! We went only once, and it took about 2.5 hours for the appetizer to arrive, and they forgot one item we ordered. Food has not been particularly good, and very bland. Have never seen anyone make veg biryani with coconut milk :-) Additionally, price seemed much higher than what we see else where, but the food quality was not that great. Something was clearly wrong that day with the organization and service, but I dont know what happened inside the kitchen. After that day in January, we went 3,4 times in the past few months, and each time, the restaurant was closed for no reason.

Words cannot describe how bad this place is. Terrible service. Was served frozen food that was heated up in a microwave. The owner insists that it is a fine-dining restaurant. Either he does not know what fine dining is, or he lives in his own make-believe world. In my humble opinion, a fine-dining restaurant should probably not serve frozen food. Also, the restaurant is closed on most days for no reason at all. Make sure you call them beforehand if you want to try the worst overpriced Indian food on the planet. This place deserves 0 stars.

I loved absolutely everything about this place. The mood, the lighting, the service, the friendliness, the sounds and scents and location. ...and the food! My heavens, it was lovely. Delicious, affordable, and perfectly portioned. There was exactly the right amount per dish, and it was all prepared better than I knew it could be. Full disclosure: I dont get to eat out very often, but goodness was Indian Delights worth it. Very, very highly recommended, and the next time I am in Ames, I will certainly be returning.

I have been to Indian restaurants in several countries and other states. This one is great! I enjoyed the variety of dishes, the exquisite flavors and you could see the owner cooking his little heart out in the kitchen. Often times sauces are pre-made and left to warm in bins until used. This gentleman was artfully and passionately making the individual dishes and they were superb! The setting was quaint and they took customer service seriously. Its tempting to try everything and relish in the ambiance for hours.
