My girlfriend thought it would be a great idea to try the Tandoor this summer after it was renovated, as we had never had Indian food before. This isnt really the reason I hate it, but when you try to find the parking lot, its not the entrance to the banks parking lot. Anyway, the interior was amazing. Badass fireplace on the wall, and pop music straight from India. The hosts gave off a very friendly vibe when they seated us and took our orders. They gave us some menus and some tortilla chips with some kind of amazing chili dip. We decided on our dinner and they took our order. I ordered the lamb tikka masala. He asked me if I wanted bread with that and stupidly I said yes ($6 extra right there). Same with my girlfriend when she was asked if she wanted rice with that. That extra $6 carbohydrate, which is absolutely essential to the meal, was nowhere to be found on the menu. Otherwise, the food was amazing. After we were finished, we stopped eating and let our forks down on our plates without touching them. We had to ask the waiter for the check. He got offended that my girlfriend couldnt finish all her rice and sauce even though she ate all the lamb. Let me say it again: he was offended my girlfriend wasnt finishing ALL her RICE AND SAUCE. He asked her, "are you sure youre not finished," with a serious accentuated tone as he stared at her with a frown. What a dick waiter. I would throw up if I had to swallow a half cup of curry sauce all by itself. It wasnt even that much rice either - like 4 spoonfuls. So we asked for separate checks because we were both a little strapped for cash. He got offended again, but he came back with a note pad and asked us what we had to eat. That was a little unprofessional and kinda crossed some bounds. He could have just looked at the check he was about to so graciously let us pay. Im sure we didnt violate some kind of unspoken social norms or anything. We werent dressed up or anything like all the other business professionals in suits that were eating by us. I mean Im sure regular MIDDLE-middle class families come to eat there sometimes, but god did I feel unwelcome. And for that, I give this restaurant 1 star out of 5; and 2 middle fingers in the air.

We are just home after a delightful "date night" dinner at "Indian Restaurant." There are several reasons we will always be glad to return. It means a lot to me to be welcomed so warmly by everyone who helps us through our meal. After we admired a steaming dish being delivered to another diner, a member of the staff cam over to show us a video of the flaming oven it had been prepared in! Prices are so reasonable we could order up everything we wanted to try. Delicious! With a gracious surplus of rice and the remains of my main dish to enjoy the next day. We both enjoyed the soft lighting and the classical Indian background music. Look out! Ill bring my tabla next time! Thanks for a "Lets do that again" evening:-)

Having recently moved from the north side of Chicago, my wife and I were looking for a replacement to Devon Street Indian dining. We were pleasantly surprised to find an excellent selection and great hospitality. We have a 2 year old daughter, by our second visit, they knew her by name and were always playing with her and entertaining her during our meal. Aside from that, they had my favorite, Chicken Saag which isnt always available. They also have Poori, which my wife loves. Even though there is little competition in the Region for Indian, theyd still kick butt.

We have eaten Indian food many times, from many places. Normally we are disappointed when we compare food to what we get from restaurants on Devon in Chicago. We were so delightfully surprised with this gem!!! Everything we ordered was clearly freshly made from high quality ingredients. The spices were delightful! We got one mild dish and one spicy. Mild did not mean bland!! Spicy was not just about capsacin! It was an interesting balance of many flavors. If you live in the area, you are lucky. if you dont, know that this place is worth a detour.

We just grabbed takeout on the way through the area, but it was excellent. Ive had good Indian food in Boston, DC, Chicago, New Orleans, etc, but this is very possibly the best in the States. We had the samosas, vegetable jalfrezie, and aloo gobi (potatos and cauliflower). Each dish was the best wed had of that dish. In the aloo gobi, each ingredient tasted like itself but the dish came together in a coherent manner. Everyone we met was very friendly, despite us not going very far into the restaurant.

Tandoor serves authentic and delicious Indian food. Great appetizers and curries, and much of it is vegetarian or vegan. Their buffets have plant-based options, too. The servers are very upbeat and happy to help; you can tell that they are passionate about Indian food. Be aware that basmati rice—which comes standard with your entree at every Indian restaurant Ive ever been to—costs extra. Definitely something they should change. Other than that, no complaints. The best place for Indian in the Region!

Tandoor has been around for many many years. I first visited long ago when the place still looked like a shack and was surprised and happy to find white linen table cloths, a friendly wait staff and great food. Since that day Ive visited many times and havent been disappointed. The daily buffet is great and always changing. The staff is still friendly and helpful and the shack has been turned into a nice relaxing place to dine. I heartily suggest you give it a try.

This place is severely underrated. I come here at least twice a month and not once have I ever been disappointed with the food or service. The wait staff is very attentive, the place is always impeccably clean, and, above all, the food is AMAZING. People are often hesitant to try Indian food, but this place will shatter any preconceptions you may have about Indian cuisine. Bottom line, if you havent tried this place yet, youre sorely missing out

We had dinner late on Saturday night with our two year old. The ambience and atmosphere were very friendly for family but also large enough for couples to enjoy an intimate dinner. The food was AMAZING. The tandoor chicken was so tender and perfectfully seasoned. The Rogan Josh-spicy-was outstanding. Finally, the naan-garlic- was fluffy and delicious We highly recommend this restaurant for excellent Indian food.

Khaas biryani and karahi lamb were both excellent. The lamb in both was both flavorful and tender. The karahi has a good ratio of vegetables and sauce. The shrimp in the khaas were large, tender, and delicious. The chicken was very tender. The only draw back was the garlic naan bread was mostly burnt. The parts that were not burnt were very good. The wait staff was attentive and the food served in a timely manner.
