This is a sad excuse for a sushi/ steak house. The wait staff is some of the most miserable and disrespectful people I have misfortune to come across in a dining atmosphere. The evening started in high spirits as we were quickly seated and our orders placed. The soup came out shortly along with drinks, and then quickly deteriorated. It took 55 minutes for our food to reach our table, on top of the fact that they told us at 30 minutes that our food was going to be out soon. They forgot our rice and when they did bring it was slammed on the table. Not the best service ever. That night my friend and I felt completely sick to our stomachs and the only thing we both ate was the prawn and vegetable tempura from Little Tokyo. Avoid this restaurant, the baths are filthy along with the plates, and it is a hostile environment. Everything you do not want at a restaurant

Basically "Alyssa" there is sour because none of the wait staff actually like her anymore. All of the food is good, although there has been one instance where the tempura was a little too greasy and it can be hard for some people to handle if theyre not used to it. There are several different sushi chefs and each make the sushi their own way, which can be good or bad if youre used to a particular chefs style. Although we have gone through rough times with being understaffed, we have ultimately come up with amazing waitresses and chefs who are helpful, considerate, and hospitable. Dont let the ugly outside fool you. The food is amazing on both the steak house and sushi side and the lunch specials are great. About 95% of our customer base is made up of regulars, so ask any of them.

Avoid this place at all costs. This was the largest disappointment weve had in a long time. The ginger dressing was thick & awkward tasting. They used too much butter & too little of the other sauces. The vegetables consisted of a pile of onion with one piece of broccoli & mushroom per person. The fillet was one of the stringiest Ive eaten. All of this disappointment comes at a 20% price increase compared to the same type of restaurant in another city. To top it all off, everything is so slow that you feel like youll never escape. If you want a good Japanese steakhouse, drive to Chicago or Indianapolis. Its worth it to avoid this disappointment.

We have been to Little Tokyo three times in the last 6 months. All 3 times the food is wonderful and 2 of the 3 times the service has been awful! This last visit we had a gift cert. which the server gave us issues about. The server needs to be fired! A pre-schooler could offer better service. This server had messy, unbrushed hair, untucked shirt, and had no interest in his job. He would roll his eyes when the chef would ask him to do things. Im sure my husband will want to go back, for the food but Id rather go to House of Kobe for sushi and get good food and service.

Weve had some problems with a slow kitchen, or wrong checks, but have always had them smilingly and peacefully resolved (usually with a free round of drinks, appetizer, or dessert). Twice weve had dessert given to us for being in the restaurant at slow times. Weve really enjoyed the maki (were not really sashimi lovers), tempura vegetables, and hot sake. Theyve even been particularly friendly and patient when we were introducing our three teenagers to sushi. Overall, I look forward to this place getting better, to where the appearance they give matches their food!

i was skeptical to visit this place after reading some of the reviews that i found online, but i started going here several months ago and i will keep going back. the service can tend to be slow if they are busy, but its worth overlooking. its a really great option for northwest indiana if you want authentic sushi without having to drive into the city. the spicy tuna is the best ive had anywhere and the other rolls ive tried i have yet to be disappointed with. i would definitely recommend this place to other sushi lovers in the area.

The food is great and the people are very friendly. I am vegetarian and they will make the rolls for me that are not on the menu. They dont put too much sushi rice in the rolls, which is good, and the rice is soft, which I like the most. I used to work in an Asian fusion restaurant, so I know which means good and fresh. I will recommend this one. Little Tokyo has a variety of appetizers, is vegetarian-friendly, and is very delicious.

WORST EVER - My husband and I eat out a lot, sorry to say. And use groupons a lot. This was the worst food I ever had. I ordered salmon with shrimp. When I got my food the shrimp were old tasting and the fish was really weird and tuff. When I told my server that I didnt think it was salmon, she insisted it was and walked away. A while later she came back and said they ran out of salmon and gave me hailbut instead. It was awful!

Ive tried dining in on 3 different occasions at different levels of slow/busy. Every single time the service is awful. We sat at the table for 35 minutes on each of the last 2 occasions.. waiting for someone to come out and refresh our water glasses or ask us if we needed anything (which we did). I enjoy the philadelphia rolls, the miso soup, shrimp tempura and the edemame. I will only order pickup and will never dine in again.

Food was really really good. Naked roll was so yummy. Aside from that, service I hate to admit was pretty terrible. We were served our food by a child. And when the lady asked me if I still wanted my miso AFTER my meal I had told her no but she brought it out anyway. Luckily she was at least aware of our hour long wait for food and I got my unwanted miso free. Wouldnt go back for dine in, but would pick up.

We went on a Saturday afternoon only one other table and we waited 40 min for our meal. This place is perfect for those who think they know good food, but in reality the food is awful. If you want good sushi go to Illinois .... Chicago. We almost got sick from eating there dish water cabbage soup. They need to get fresh ingredients and a new wait staff if they plan to keep there doors open.

Okay I have been to sushi bars all over the country. Poor service can be overlooked if the food is excellent. This is not the case here. The worst sushi I have ever consumed. So bad in fact that we didnt eat it all. The sashimi was very low quality with a sour after taste. Jiro would be insulted....Dont waste your time or money. Your friends will dislike you for taking them here.

I used to eat at Little Tokyo pretty often, it is a small place and there isnt always enough staff for busy nights but the food is very good and the sushi cant be missed. Although the place is a little more expensive than others in Valpo the food is worth it. The sushi can always be made to what you like and the chef is very good.
