Very chic atmosphere with all the staff dressed in typical black, which may make one think that this is way too pretentious for a relaxed dinner but I was wrong. The staff is very attentive, the crowd was pretty young and music playing in the background kept you from overhearing any conversations. The managers check on your experience, which we liked. A table for two by the window is optimal where you can view the city crowds. Candle lit, white table cloths set the mood for a serious sushi experience. The food was very nicely presented, a bit pricey, but very delicious. We went with hot and cold plates as starters with the grilled scallops, tuna with pickled onions and mushroom salad. Dinner was mainly a variety of sashimi, nigiri, and maki rolls...all of which were fresh, perfectly made. We ended with mascato and chocolate cake. Great experience and definitely place this on your date list.

During a vacation I spent with my wife in Chicago I was searching for Halal restaurants and could not believe my eyes when I read that they served Halal steaks. So I called the restaurant and manager confirmed that all their Prime cut steaks, which are supplied by Greater Omaha, are Halal. The manager also assured us that he can have our steaks cooked on a separate clean grill to ensure no contact with any of the non-Halal meat. On to the steaks, well they were mouthwatering good! It was one of the best steaks Ive had in my life. On top of that, I think for the quality of meat and a high end restaurant like that, the prices are acceptable. Will definitely be visiting again.

There are a few sushi spots in this city that are as coveted as Roka Akor. I spent an evening (a very fun evening) on a sushi tour of the city. Basically, the plan was to hit up all these hot spots, having one roll at each so I could compare and scrutinize all these haughty taughty sushi spots. Of the three that I visited for the purpose of this evening - Roka Akor wins hands down! Service was beyond impeccable. Bryan was most accommodating and attentive without being too much. Our rolls were fresh, delicious and artfully presented. The sexy lighting and wine wall make this a very chic place for an intimate date or an occasion where you are looking to impress.

Let me start by saying, you will not find better customer service in a restaurant in Chicago than this place. The butterfish appetizer was absolutely amazing. The problem I had is that the first time I went to Roka, the food was awful, except for the butterfish. I went home with a bill for $220, without alcohol, for 2 people, and I was hungry. But I am a reasonable guy, I sent an email to the manager and told him about my experience. He was a perfect gentleman, and invited me and my date back for a second chance. He hooked us up with his tasting menu. Now that is the way to go. This is now one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Enjoy

The food was excellent and definitely gave Sunda a run for its money. That being said, like many of the restaurants in the area, they sat our party of 8 almost 30 minutes after our reservation time. We had a 9:30 reservation, we got there at 9:25, and werent seated until 10pm. I get that busy restaurants like this cant always be right on time with tables, but this is what separates a good restaurant from a great one. And when every person is paying $80 for a meal, it should be absolutely perfect. I would go back, but on a weeknight...and Id leave if I had to wait more than 10 minutes over my reservation time.

We were visiting from out of town and read great reviews on this sushi place but were very disappointed in the service. After being mostly ignored by a condescending waiter (Mark Y) we were fed in a confused way an assortment of B- Sushi and hot food including the signature dish, Miso Cod which was maybe B+ at best. Our bottled water kept getting mixed up with the next tables, no one seemed to know what to bring or when, and for people very experienced dining at the finest sushi restaurants throughout the country, this one did not impress. We would not go back.

This is a VERY good choice. I highly recommend you making reservations for dinner. I walked in, without one. I almost walked out, because I was not attended to within a reasonable time frame. However, I was not discouraged. All of the guest seemed very engaged, happy, and enjoying the food. So, I persevered, and sought out assistance. I tactfully asserted myself and asked the host if he could seat me. He was able to squeeze me in. Score! This was, by far, the best Roka Akor experience I have ever had. I highly recommend you going.

Very high quality sushi and an intimate atmosphere and posh crowd. Service was good, but the wait staff was not very knowledgeable about the food. The quality of flavors and quantity of food on the small plates do not deserve the excessively high prices. The shochu was good, but you get a small glass of tasty, watered down shochu with a hugh block of ice in it. Maybe two shots for $12-$18....again...too high for what you get. That said, the mango chili shochu was quite pleasant.

Exceptional service, each part of the meal was brought to the table by the attentive staff at exactly the perfect time. Halal steak options are available and all staff members were well aware of these particulars on their menu. The food was great: sushi classics were done right and the steak was cooked to perfection. The Yuzu Semifreddo on the dessert menu is a culinary masterpiece with multiple layers of rich flavors and textures that blend together perfectly.

Second time here and got the decadent. Every single dish they served to me was top notch quality. The sushi was fresh and melted in your mouth. The Chilean sea bass was awesome and its broth was super savory. Casey was our waiter and did a great job attending us. The desert was great they brought out a great variety of sweets everything meshed so well together its hard for me to even describe. Great job Roka.

Everything we ordered was great. The service was good. Staff was nice and friendly. Drinks were good too. We ordered tempura shrimp, chicken skewers, crispy shrimp rolls and the half chicken. We tried their blood orange margaritas, La grande dame and another signature drink I cant remember the name of and they were all amazing. I recommend it to anyone visiting looking for Japanese tapas style restaurant.

Food was decent, but the raw fish was very much on point. I ordered the sashimi platter and it was great. The atmosphere was also pleasant to be around. Great decor and plenty of seats. I went on a laye Monday night and not very many people. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Only reason I rated 2 stars was because of The price. You at least need $100 to have a decent dinner.
