Cat Hair Day loves to go out on dates. Nat is vegan, so we are limited to where we can go out to, but that’s part of the fun – finding vegan-friendly places to eat in Indy. And trust us, we don’t starve! We seem to find ourselves at the Sinking Ship on a weekly basis for a couple of reasons, it is right down the street and we love their wings! The Sinking Ship is located in SoBro at 49th and College. While it is known for being the only hockey bar in Indy, they also serve lunch and dinner, and even have a Sunday brunch. We were excited to find out on our most recent visit to the Sinking Ship, that they had just unveiled a new menu with even more vegan options! One of the greatest perks of The Sinking Ship, is that it is one of the more vegan-friendly restaurants we have found in Indy, with nearly half of the menu options being vegan. Unlike many restaurants, where you have to “special order” non-vegan options to make them vegan, The Sinking Ship has many options that are already vegan. Vegan options at The Sinking Ship include appetizers, sides, entrees, and burgers. Our favorite appetizers are the Sack of Balls (cinnamon sugar donut balls with a fruity sauce) and Vegan Chili Dogs. Our favorite go-to entree is their Seitan Wings with Korean BBQ; try them – we promise you won’t regret it! The Thai Seitan Salad is another delicious lunch or dinner option, and one of the healthier menu items. Their vegan sides include Mac N’ Teese and Vegan Chili. Another option worth mentioning is their variety of vegan sauces, including vegan ranch and vegan mayo. But the best day of all to visit the Sinking Ship is on Sundays when they have Vegan Biscuits and Gravy. We could eat their biscuits and gravy every week and never get tired of them. Seriously, they are so delicious! Time to Rate Vegan Friendly: 4/5 -almost half of the menu is vegan, including appetizers, entrees, burgers, sides, and special vegan sauces -they just unveiled a new menu with even more vegan options than before Tastiness: 3.5/5 -food is very hit or miss -the hits are chart topping, you think about them when you’re at home and hungry and you then start to salivate -misses are just okay… not inedible, just nothing to blog about Decor: 4.5/5 (Nat); 4/5 (Amy) -considering it’s a bar, the decorations are above average, including some pretty cool paintings on the walls -the bar is hockey themed, which is evident in the decor -there is a juke box, but it does not play music unless a guest has paid for songs, so it goes from being really loud for a few minutes to no music at all at times Staff Friendliness: 5/5 -the staff is friendly and the food comes fast, so you see them often Cost: $$ -priced well for the amount of food you get – most of the appetizers and entrees are under $10 Overall Feeling: 4/5 -we get excited about going there to get the food we love, but are wary of trying new things because they are either excellent or just ok; we never really know if we are going to like something until we try it -we understand that it is a bar but due to the acoustics it can get loud really fast, so it can be difficult to comfortably have a conversation Overall Rating: 4/5 -even more vegan options than before -fast and friendly service -very limited parking -no bike rack nearby -food inconsistency, with a few favorite items that we love and other options that we wouldn’t try again Amy+Nat Cat Hair Day

The Sinking Ship has been on my list of places to try for a while, but unfortunately my experience wasnt up to the hype. The server immediately profiled my friends and I after I tripped walking into the bar. She accused me of drinking too much and said she wouldnt serve me, but she said to my friends instead of saying directly to me. Not wanting to cause a scene, I just ordered water. When she came back with it, she asked if we planned on staying. Then she barely checked on us, instead checking frequently on the tables around us and taking a moment to sit at a table to eat and chat with coworkers. I appreciate when a bar is sensitive to cutting someone off, but in this case it was unwarranted and handled poorly. One member of my party submitted a complaint to the manager, who we have yet to hear from. Its clear that customer service is not top priority.

Read about this place in Nuvo when they opened and Im really happy to have finally eaten here. Their burger options are creative and extremely delicious--everything I could ask for. The portabello mushroom appetizer was crazy good too. Best part was having the bartender tell us what was on tap and not having ever tried anything they had (I really love craft beer, so this was really impressive). We were there on the Belgian beer night, so we enjoyed some Founders, Flying Dog, and Chimay delicacies. Craig at the bar was an outstanding guy and took good care of us this evening. Will definitely come back.

I love their take-it-or-leave-it messages on their menu. The food is wonderful. The onion petals - I could probably live on them. Its definitely a bar venue with a biker feel to it. Nothing wrong with that. The servers and bartenders have been very pleasant and I love being able to run across the street to get delicious food at reasonable prices. With family who are vegan, Im happy to have found a new place that makes such a effort to put out solid vegan/vegetarian fare. Ill bring them here the next time theyre in town!

Well, after reading some reviews I had doubts about coming to this place, but I decided to give it a chance, and all I can say is that I dont regret coming here, the service was excellent our waiter came at the right time asking if we needed anything else , food was amazing the stoner fries, the chuck Norris burger and the vegetarian wrap were all good, then have a WIDE selection of beer as well which makes it even better, will definetly recommend and will absolutely come back soon!

If you and your vegan buddy got dumped on the same day, and you needed a place you could both drown your sorrows in appropriate comfort food and beverages while simultaneously avoiding crowds from the football game du jour, The Sinking Ship is where you would go. The Stoner Fries (available in omnivore and vegan versions) are a great cure for a cruddy day. Pool tables, hockey on the television, some off-street parking. Definitely worth a visit.

So they have Vegan fries and chili mac and etc. its kind of a dive bar, but thy have vegan bar food, which is rare. As far as healthy food... not so much. I ordered take out after work on a weekend, and I did get my food within 15 minutes, and they were super nice. A little strange to be carded at the door, but none the less my mission to get vegan food fast was accomplished. If you are vegan but still love Bar Food, this is your dive!

The waitress spilled beer on me and didnt bring me anything to wipe it up. She gave my husband and I the wrong beers and then forced us to close our tab. We then were without service for 20 minutes. When we asked who our new server was we were told that we should just go to the bar to get served. We told the manager and he said he would take note of it. This is the worst service Ive ever received in my life. I will not be coming back.
