I was hesitant to go because of all of the negative reviews I saw here about service and wait times. Thankfully, I went anyway and it was amazing. We waited for a table for about 15 minutes which was not bad at all, however we did go at 9:30 pm so that could be why. They were very accomodating as well while we were waiting. We had one person under 21 who could not wait at the bar so they pulled a chair for him so he could sit close to us. The food was delicious, best I have had in a while. Yes, the food comes out at different times because it is tapas style. This is explained to you as you sit down. The food is meant to be shared rather than ordering your own meal. However, if you do want to order your own meal like my party did youll just have to accept the wait. Its really not that big a deal, just eat some of their delicious chips and guac while you wait and stop complaining geez. I have not one negative thing to say about this restaurant. My only suggestions are to arrive before or after the dinner rush if you do not want to wait, after all it is a very popular restaurant. Also, if you do have allergies I would reccomend looking at the menu before time because they do not modify menu items. Otherwise give it a chance and keep an open mind because it is a different cultures style of serving. Not everything has to be exactly the way you want it.

Phenomenal food and service. Not your ordinary Mexican restaurant. Spectacular menu with creative, wonderful tasting dishes thatll encourage you to think outside the box and try something new, and itll be awesome! They even have creative beverages and not just alcoholic ones. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a guacamole, then shared our taco choices, (Arrachera, and Atun). My beverage was a Limonda that was fantastic. My wife had Modelo in a can. Prices were fair for downtown Geneva, especially considering the quality of the food and the creativity that goes into preparation. Id definitely given this restaurant a 5 star review if they were more realistic about the simple things like salsa, (they charge $5.00 for it), and Coca Colas at $3.00 per can. The food is great, service is great. Even if they have the worlds best salsa does it need to be $5.00 or can it be less? Or can they offer free salsa thats a simple cheapo recipe like 99.999% of other Mexican restaurants, but reserve the good stuff for those willing to pay $5 for it? Anyway great job overall Bien Trucha, your staff and menu really makes it worth coming back again. Figure out how to profit without gouging on salsa or soda and youll have a real 5 star restaurant! Great place, thank you, dinner was superb.

Hello, new favorite restaurant in my book! There are 2 sides to this restaurant divided by an outdoor eating area. One side you make reservations for (if you dont the wait is a couple of hours) the other side is walk in, there could potentially be a wait but we didnt have one tonight. The only thing that is different between the 2 buildings is a couple of menu items like oysters and a catch of the day, or so thats was our waitress told us. Its a small space and the tables are small. A table for 4 is the same size as a table for 2 so it was a bit of a tight squeeze but still fine. Margaritas were great. You get chips and beans. You can pay for a chips and salsa platter. All items are to be shared and come out at different time. We ordered pastor tacos (excellent and my favorite!) we also ordered pork belly and they were great as well. The tacos came out hot and the corn tortillas were cooked perfectly. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The only negative would be that I went to use the restroom and my shoes were sticking to the floor. That was pretty gross. However, the food is amazing and we cant wait to return

Im a vegetarian, so I eat Mexican a few times a week. This place has amazing rice and beans --the sign of a good chef. I had a special, chili rellenos with goat cheese. The sauce was plan tomato, no real spices, but it was very good, exceptional really. But really, I was amazed by the rice and beans, and I dont usually like rice. the bean dip they bring out while youre waiting is really good too! The atmosphere was busy, a bit loud, but there was wait staff everywhere, and we were tended to immediately. In fact, we had a 6.45 reservation and we were seated exactly on time. Im not sure I would go next door without a reservation, but hubby and I plan on going back until weve tried everything. Kudos to a chef that says on the menu that he doesnt take requests. And we love the family style way they serve. Our favorite restaurant in Chicago is the same way: they bring out one entree at a time, and you share, chat, and enjoy food and good conversation. Enjoyable atmosphere if you want to enjoy good food and spirits (and conservation.) Cant wait to go back!

I have been to this place numerous times in the past 5 years and it never ever fails me! The freshly handmade drinks are delicious and addicting. The tacos are perfect and so filling. I love this place and will continue to come for the amazing food and funky modern Mexican atmosphere. In addition to the delicious mojitos and margaritas! This review is missing a star based solely on the last experience I had this past Tuesday night November 22nd. The food and drinks were delicious as usual. The service was very subpar unfortunately. The waiter kept pressuring us to share when we have NEVER shares before any other time Ive gone there. Accused me of eating off the wooden tablets that the tacos come on and shamed me for it. Also questioned my decision when I tried to order a sangria. Basically, he kept trying to tell me how to eat my food and it was honestly annoying. Ive never been a server but Ive worked at many restaurants and Ive never put my 2 cents in on what a customer orders or doesnt want to order. Just let people live! Within reach of course

I ate at Bien Trucha just last weekend and my only reservation in recommending it so heartily is that its so small -- the more people know about it, the harder it will be to get a table! The restaurant, brainchild of the former Tia Marias owner, is tiny -- seats no more than 15 so be prepared to wait an hour at one of the bars in the next block(s). The menu is fairly simple and the food is served tapas-style. My girlfriends and I shared the chefs guacamole (which was made with strawberries and serranos that day) and fish and portabello tacos. We also all had a tangerine margarita (theres a special one every month; everything is freshly muddled, no syrups) and shared a flan for dessert. Everything was seriously delicious and wonderfully prepared, and I cant wait to go back and try something different. Go prepared for some wonderful, creative Mexican food -- at pretty good prices, too -- and a decent wait.

I found out about Bien Trucha via Check Please and since it was featured I have wanted to go check it out. It didnt disappoint with regards to the food. We went for lunch. Just a couple of observations: HOW IT WORKS - Regardless of what main dish one asks for, they bring the food out one dish at a time. My recommendation would be to grab dishes that can be passed around; otherwise, one will finish eating ones food while the other stares. - Everything is a-la-carte. - For the time of day we went, there was no waiting time to sit outside. - Presentation and taste of the food is great. Fresh ingredients and everything well cooked. - It seems like McDonalds is more accommodating than Bien Trucha. We couldnt get for the taco sauce to be served on the side instead and I wouldnt even try to make a request to get both dishes sent out at the same time.
