My wife and I decided to come here after getting dinner downtown to grab some dessert. We just moved to the area and have looked in the window here often, so it seemed like a good time to try it. Not so. The service was pretty awful, from a surly cashier who repeatedly forgot our order to the other guy spraying really pungent bleach feet from us while we were in the middle of eating. (At least he apologized about it!) We got a hot chocolate and a chocolate and key lime tart ($12!), and the hot chocolate was half full, had no whipped cream, and was lukewarm. It was at night, so I can forgive the fact that the tarts were cold and a little stale, but they werent anything you couldnt get mass produced at Giant. I can forgive a lot of the baked goods were great, but from what we saw they were nothing special, especially for the price. Its going to be a while before Im willing to give them a second chance.

Ive been here countless times so I figured it was a good time to write a solid review. If youre lazy like me and just want the short version: go here for breakfast and any bakery items. Definitely try the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich. It is huge and will really fill you up. The bagels are pretty good and I havent tried the toast yet. I came here once for lunch and the sandwiches are just alright. They sound better than they taste and are a little pricey for what you get. Be sure to sit in the back area of the restaurant during a nice day since they have amazing outdoor seating.

Best Firehook by far. Ive been to a couple other Firehooks - corporate McLean and promising Alexandria, VA - after having visited this one and they were utterly disappointing by comparison. The coffee is great. The breakfast sandwiches are my favorite. Great atmosphere - sometimes theyll have indoor musical performers. I enjoy sitting in the outdoor patio with the weaving grape vines, watching the birds bathing in the water fountain, tossing them some crumbs here and there.

I come here often for a cup of coffee, nibbles, and to read in peace. Its great for that. But the star of the show are the cakes and pies. The cakes at this place are out of this world. Ive ordered carrot, fruit, and chocolate cakes for different events and they are always a huge hit. That being said, the cookies, bars, and pastries are rather mediocre, and some like the 7 layer bars are are pretty bad when compared to homemade. Overall, still one of my favorite places.

Went with my son and we ordered two hot cocoas and a lemon cookie. The cashier forgot the order and asked me for what we wanted twice. One of the workers there kept taking chairs from customers tables so that he and someone else could eat their subway sandwiches behind the counter. Totally different than how the cafe was a few years ago, also much more expensive - not sure spending $10 on three items that arent so great is worth it.

For the prices and quality of the pastries, Id rather give this 4 stars. The tarts are wonderful and my husband raved about the coffee. But the service, well that brings it down to 3 stars. They were pretty rude and seemed rather uninterested in our money. I felt like I was seriously bothering anyone whenever I asked a question about a menu item.

The Cleveland Park firehook bakery is of a very low standard. The pastries look old tired and dry. The place is dirty ....if you are sitting there please have your kids keep their hands ON the table. Twice when I was there, Under the chairs and the bars of the chairs under the seat were piled with dirt . The bread is OK . Pity !

Ive had different pastries, breads, and sandwiches here along with coffee and Ive liked all of them. What I like most about this store is that its a bakery so I can buy good bread and most especially because of the back seating area which is just beautiful and peaceful.

I saw this place while walking along Conneticut Ave and the pastries I had were top notch. The atmosphere was nice on the patio; however, indoor seating capacity was small to non-existent. Unlike other reviews, I found service to be perfectly fine. I would recommend!

A latte. Perhaps the poorest effort Ive seen. Urn coffee with some warmed milk. Espresso machine lay dormant on the side. Croissants were in contrast very good. When does a cookie become a ready made cake base? Dinner plate size? A conflicted, tormented place.

Stupidest waitress had trouble to take our order. We had to dumb it down for her and then she over-charged us because she thinks $3.25*2 = $7. Didnt want to make a fuss since the food is not bad.

Not many people know about this firehook but its probably my favorite for the backyard garden seating. Really chill vibe and great place to walk to in the morning.

Great food and coffee. My only problem is that they dont start cooking breakfast sandwiches until 7am or later.
