Overpriced for poor quality Chinese. We ordered fried rice, lo mein, crab rangoons, and mixed veggies. The veggies in the fried rice is clearly part of a frozen veggie mix, and the lo mein had absolutely no flavor. I added a little soy sauce at home - and it tasted like I was just eating noodles with soy sauce, the dish had no flavor of its own. The only saving grace of this meal was the crab rangoons, which Im usually not crazy about (I prefer spring rolls), but they were delicious!! And the service was friendly as well, so that was nice. But it does not make up for the poor food quality. There is another place in town that has MUCH better food for better prices, which was closed when I wanted to go there yesterday. I wont be returning here, even in as a desperate measure like yesterday when I was craving Chinese.

We used to live in Dekalb, and have always missed the food at Yen Ching. They have set the standard by which we compare every Chinese restaurant we visit, and we havent yet found one that measures up! When we visited DeKalb again in July 2010 we made a point to stop in right away for dinner. The same owners are still there and as personable as ever; you just dont get that kind of service anymore but you should! The BEST potstickers and potsticker sauce you will find anywhere. The Kung Pao Beef and General Tsos Chicken are FANTASTIC! Youre crazy if you pass this place up - wish we could have it more often, but we will go EVERY TIME were in DeKalb!

I ordered sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken and crab Rangoon. When I arrived home (15 min drive) our breaded chicken was spongy. Yen Ching employee offered to replace the chicken and put the sauce on the side so it would not get soggy. When I returned to pick up my replacement the employee looked at the chicken I was dissatisfied with and told me that there was nothing wrong with it but was professional and friendly despite my being upset. The replacement meal was good but not my favorite Chinese. The sweet and sour sauce has a strong ketchup taste. I must say Yen Ching makes the BEST CRAB RANGOON MMMMM!

I have been living in DeKalb for around 8 months now as I complete my Masters Degree at NIU. I had moved from Colorado and I was looking for a good Chinese restaurant. I tried out Yen Ching this evening and had an exceptional experience. The food was really good but I was incredibly impressed with the service. The wait staff were incredibly inviting and friendly. The atmosphere was very family friendly and I was really glad to find a Chinese restaurant far away from home. I will definitely be coming back soon.

Used to eat here all the time when I was at NIU, and we still come by every time were in northern Illinois because the food is superior. Big portions, reasonable prices, quick and friendly service, excellent quality. The potstickers are delicious too. Lived in a lot of places but still Yen Ching is still my favorite by far. Their food is fantastically priced for what you get and the quality of the food and service provided is top notch. The staff is friendly and gracious almost to a fault, and the atmosphere and food is certainly the best of any restaurant in Dekalb. I cannot recommend Yen Ching enough.

Lunchtime is the best! Tea, soup, and entrée for a low price! Great memories of Marilyn and calm lunches between classes. Food is delicious. Even though Ive moved hours away I still make a few trips a year to Dekalb just for some yen ching.
