This past August, my party of 8 took a cake to Angry Crab and had a great time celebrating a birthday. Tonight my party of 8 took a cake to Angry Crab to celebrate another birthday and was greatly disappointed. After waiting outside for over an hour with the cake, the host asked upon seating us where was our cake. It was only then that he informed us that we would be charged an additional charge if we were to cut the cake. Taken aback by this revelation, we informed him we had our own plates, our own cake cutter and we were not charged in the past to celebrate with a birthday cake. When he stated that it was policy, a manager was requested. He then informed us that HE was the General Manager. His attitude was very unpleasant and inconsiderate of customer concerns. The overall sentiment was take it or leave it as he dismissed us with "these changes were made very recently". We advised him of no charges on our last visit and cake cutting charges were not listed on the web site nor were there any mention of such charges on the menu. There was no empathy shown or apologies, just those are the new charges which were made just recently and to add insult to injury, taxes were added to that charge. To be clear...our issue is not the amount of the fee, as our bill was well over a couple of hundred dollars, but rather the lack of customer service and posting of new policies. The public has a right to know if policies are being changed or new charges implemented. It should be noted on the website, included in the recorded phone message and visibly posted at the location to give people the option if they want to celebrate there. We should not have to find out in the manner that we did. I did not appreciate being blind-sided like that nor the lack of concern and customer service skills by the so called management. My future celebrations will be held at other locations and I will be informing my family and friends via social media of my negative experience.

Glad we went a little before normal dinner time; it was starting to get packed! My boyfriend and I lucked out and had no wait. If youre a small group, you might be splitting a table with another couple. Our neighbors (we had 2 sets at different points in the meal) were friendly, but youll have to get over being super-messy in front of other people if youre at all self-conscious. Your hands will be a mess, and maybe your arms and face too. Luckily, there are big sinks underneath the chalkboard where you can get cleaned up after your meal, because youll need to. I had a pound of snow crab legs in the garlic butter sauce with level 1 spice (Im a wimp) as well as sausage. Wasnt crazy about the sausage; Id order other add-ons next time, like some bread or rice to go with that sauce (amaaaazing!). My boyfriend got a pound of snow crab legs in the cajun sauce with level 2 spice (which wasnt too spicy for me!) and was also in love with his. Eating crab is always messy, but its even harder when the legs are slippery with sauce, your tools are slippery with sauce, and youre oh-so-carefully balancing the leftover bits in the middle of your half of the table. Im a huge crab fiend and can crack them pretty quickly by hand, but I had a harder time getting a good grip on these. The Angry Crab is BYOB, but do keep in mind that you can be charged for outside non-alcoholic drinks ($2 if you bring in your own pop, coffee, etc.). Id totally go back and try some other seafood, just with different sides so I could enjoy more of the sauce.

The food was great! An amazing overall experience... until it came time to pay. For some reason, the angry crab refused to accept our credit card payment. This is best summed up by the doorman, who - when we told him of this bad policy - yelled at US, "why would we do that, that doesnt make any sense!" ... Well, he was right, it doesnt. (He was not right to yell at us, though.) Ill explain further, because it doesnt seem logical. After several attempts with different cards that "arent being declined, but arent going through", we went back to the credit card reader with the waitress and it turned out the credit card reader accepted payment, but when it came up on the screen, there was no name popping up with the card and for that reason, they were Choosing not to accept payment - EVEN THOUGH WE ALSO GAVE THEM OUR ID - The Angry Crab refused payment from us, even though their credit card reader was accepting the card. It was not only frustrating and embarrassing, but then we had to find an atm to take out cash, and then, ultimately to have them Yell at Us(!!!) that they wouldnt do what we watched them do because it doesnt make any sense?!?!?! What a bunch of assholes.

First time here we got turned away because they werent taking any more people. It was a weekend and very busy. Second time here we went on a weekday around 7:30. We were immediately seated. We werent seen by a waitress for about 10-15 minutes. Finally our order was taken. 8:30 still no food other than our appetizer of Cajun garlic fries (which were delicious). We ask our waitress what was going on as everyone who was seated after us got food right away. Literally. Even the people at the next table asked us what the hell we ordered that was taking so long. Several tables were seated, waited on, ate and left before we even got our food. She said our ticket was next to the next ticket and it should be ready soon. After which she disappeared. Here it is 9pm and our food finally arrives. The waitress asks us if we would like another order of fries on the house. No. No we would not. The food was spectacular but not worth the trouble of being completely disregarded for 90 minutes.

Seafood was "OK" at best. I am disappointed because I know another place that is better but NOT sure who copied in style of cooking their seafood in a plastic bag. The place is called "Crazy Crab" in Evergreen Park,IL that cooks seafood in a bag and It was WAY WAY better!!!. A friend considered it the best but to me its Just "Meh!" I had 2 pounds of scallops and an appetizer of calamari. The scallops were OK but the fact of this concept of cooking in a bag has left me disturbed because I think one seafood restaurant is copying another idea which I do not like. My friend who barely eats had the shrimp. It was "OK" I did not think it was worth coming here but that is what he wished to be taken on his birthday. If I had a choice to go here or Crazy Crab I would go to the south side suburbs over this place in Wicker Park. Seasoning did NOT impress me at ALL :(

Decided to come here around 4pm after hearing about the long lines and boy, am I glad we did. We still had to wait a good 25 minutes before getting seated. It is BYOB so that is nice plus. The items are only sold by the pound so be come prepared to shell out (pun-intended) some of your heard-earned money. For two people, we spent about 50 bucks for a pound of shrimp, a pound of snow crab legs and a couple of sides. The shrimp was my favorite. I got the spiciest seasoning and it is def not for the weak. The seafood was good but I really thought that their garlic cajun fries took the award. Everyone in my group was quite impressed with the fries and as I am writing this review, my mouth is watering. Must go back for fries.... PS dont be shocked that they serve the food in plastic bags. Thats how they get all the flavors to soak up.
