If you blink, you may miss this place. Located on the corner of Atlanta Highway in Oakwood (on the border of Gainesville), lies this little BBQ Shack. A very small waiting area to order the food, with a nice sized dining shack located right next door. For the amount of food that was delivered, the pricing was just right. I went here with 2 other colleagues from work and we ordered different meals. They had the lunch specials (around $8 including taxes) which included a meat on a sandwich, chips and a drink (with free refills). The chips they had were bagged chips, but they did have ZAPPS chips available! For myself, i wanted to try a sampling of the meats, so i ordered 2 of the most popular meats - the Ribs & Pulled Pork. With my meal came 2 sides, and came out to be around $14 with taxes. The Ribs fell right off the bone, however they were a little over cooked. Put with the right sauces, the ribs tasted a whole lot better. You can definitely taste the smokey flavors through this meat, as one can tell its been cooking for a good bunch of hours. Applied some of their smokey hot BBQ sauce and it was all that much better. With the combo meal, i was given 3 ribs (around 5 inches in length (not like the large pork ribs)) The pulled pork was a little dry looking from the outside, and a little dry to eat as well on the inside. Doused it with some of the smokey hot bbq sauce and it tasted so much better. For my sides, i was able to order some of their locally known Chili as well as some brunswick stew. The chili was very tasty, as it contained a few different types of beans, pork, potatoes, and some kind of beef. It had a great smoke flavor and also had a spicy kick to it. The brunswick stew didnt look too appetizing to eat, however you should never judge a book by its cover. The stew was quite tasty. Parking is one large open dirt lot without any kind of formal lines, so be careful where you park..as you may get blocked in! Overall, the meal was tasty and hit the right spot. Prices were fairly reasonable for the amount of food provided.

UPDATE - 5/24/2017 I have to admit, I didnt see the response until now. But today, I went back to Smokehouse and the first thing I noticed was the bottles of sauce are back on the tables. That is great because my group downs close to a bottle of sauce ourselves. Also, my friend got the beans again and said they were back to normal. They definitely act on reviews and are always eager to make things great. Totally great visit today. Great employees, great BBQ. Back to 5 star status for me. _______________________________________________________________________ First off, I love Smokehouse BBQ. Ive been eating here for 20 years and the pulled pork is just as good as ever. I am writing this just to say that since the move into the new building, a few changes have happened that I want to comment on. I am not a fan of the kettle chips, so having them as the only option is not ideal for me. But the part that got everyone in my group a little upset was the limits on the sauce. They give you a small bowl of it. You can get more, but you have to ask for it. I was told the beans were different too, but I cant speak to that. Basically - Im not mad, Im just disappointed.

I ordered two things for carry out - 1/2lb of beef ($8.95) and 1/2 of pork ($7.85), with tax the total was $17.98 which seemed on the high side since I wouldnt be using the facility or tying up the wait staff. The bag felt a little light, but buying only one pound, who knows. It was my first visit and I live twenty minutes away. When I got home I weighed the orders, in their styrofoam containers with lids, on a digital kitchen scale. The half pound of pork came in right at 8oz, but the beef at 6.75oz. So I guess all those years of lifting weights DID tell me the bag was light. Sure, the meat was good, but Im not happy that the kitchen staff just eyeballs the portions, or weighs them IN the container if weighed at all. In my case, I didnt get what I paid for so I wont be coming back.

Ive been driving around north Georgia for years, hunting bbq in city after city. Smokhouse bbq ("Famous Smokehouse" me and my friends call it) is the current champion. The quality is fantastic, the consistency commendable, the accommodations humble, and their sauce is literally without peer. I get a bottle every time I go, use it on my own bbq, and then use the empty bottle as an excuse to go back. Only open thursday through saturday, and you order at a counter in one building and walk between buildings to the nearby shack (or the outdoor bench) to eat. Do not let this scare you off - the food is worth it.

Lets put it this way, if baby Jesus cried into a coffer and you poured it on pork, this is what it would be like. Additionally, all the hype about the Brunswick stew was not only justified, its orgasmic. The banana pudding, yea well, if all the Gods ever prayed too were to make a banana pudding together, this is what it would taste like. Maybe its the 12miles I just rode on my Mountain Bike at Chicopee, maybe not, but for a meal under $12, you cannot go wrong.

Best Pulled Pork in Gainesville. Baked Beans are my favorite side. I also recommend the Chicken Salad Sandwich. My buddy Jacob mentioned in his review that I thought they changed the baked beans, but it must have been a fluke! Im happy to report that during my last visit, the beans were back to being the best. They also now have plenty of BBQ sauce at the tables so you can try the different flavors and have as much as you need.

The staff are excellent and welcoming; the pork however is a trap... The pork made my family sick and puking all night long, and it wasnt even all that great. Also, has anyone heard of WARM / HOT banana pudding??? The taste of the banana pudding was actually pretty good, but the warm / hot part was unsettling. I will certainly NOT be revisiting this place of poisoned pig! Hope no one else suffers a similar fate...

Great southern style pulled beef and pork bbq. The sauce is a masterpiece, not too tangy, sweet or spicy - just right :-) they also have tasty sides, wonderful brunswick stew and chili and some of the best traditional banana pudding around. When space and time is available it is always a treat to sit down and enjoy the bbq inside of the old smoke house!

I go I school in Memphis but the BBQ here is amazing! The pork sandwich is fantastic and a great value for under 3 bucks. The ribs are amazing and very meaty. The best thing is the banana pudding which is homemade and from scratch not instant. All around it is a great restaurant, I love it so much and wish it was open more than three days!

Ehhh it was ok. Nothing spectacular here. The cashiers give the impression that you are a bother to them. You place your order then pick your seat and they bring it to you. Staff gave off a vibe of being irritated. Just not a friendly/enjoyable environment. Probably wont be back to be honest with you. I would prefer MOONIES anyday
