Well, something has changed at Lotus Thai, because this was a different experience from my past visits. First, the food. There were two of us at dinner, one dish was mediocre, the other was very good. My dish was the mediocre one, had pasty-like quality to the sauce, while having a watered-down flavor. Ok, so heres the service experience: We were seated, and keep in mind the place wasnt busy AT ALL. The two of us sat at our table for at least 10 minutes. No one brought water, nor took a drink order, and no one even came over to tell us there would be a short wait. Keep in mind that LESS than 1/3 of the tables were occupied. I walked up to the bar where there were several water pitchers, and filled our water glasses myself. A woman offered to do it, but I declined her help, but I said it in a nice manner, and I made a bit of a joke about me being thirsty. My point in serving ourselves water was to drive the point home that we were being ignored. Our waitress ambled over about 5-10 minutes AFTER I poured our water. No "hello" from her, just something like, "do you know who seated you? Because Im in trouble." I honestly couldnt remember who seated us, so I told her not to stress, and that wed like to order. She wasnt ready for us to order, because she was flustered (she had ALL OF 3 or 4 TABLES...not busy AT ALL). Then she walked away. STILL no order was taken! Crazy! Then, the owner came over, filled our water glasses, and apologized for missing us. I told her that "it happens sometimes" and that I would return as a customer. I did mention to her that the waitress complained to me that she was in trouble, and that telling a customer such information is inappropriate. Then, our order was taken, which was served to be another awkward moment: I ordered Panang, and my server CORRECTED ME when I ordered it...she said "Oh, thats an L2." I replied, "there is no L2 on the menu" (NOT in a bitchy tone, I PROMISE) She says, "Oh well, thats what its called on the lunch specials. So if you come in at lunch, thats what you would order" Well, it wasnt lunch time, it was 7:30 PM on a Friday. But, I didnt debate the issue or talk about the "L2" with her, as I dont want to piss off someone who is handling my food. When the waitress brought our food, and AGAIN said that she was "in trouble." To be honest, I did feel for the girl, shes young, and probably doesnt see anything in the world beyond herself. I know that waiting tables is a hard job, I did it for a couple of years, and I hated it. So I DO respect servers, and I always tip 20%+ on the TOTAL with TAX. But, honestly, I dont want to know about her work issues, Im not at the restaurant to chat, Im there because I want to relax, not cook, and not deal with B.S. If I wanted B.S., Id cook a meal at home for my family to complain about, ha ha. After we were done eating, our server came to our table, and asked if we would like a box. Yes, we wanted a box. Then, an Angry Server brings boxes, a brown paper bag, and proceeded to brashly ask "DO YOU WANT A CHECK?" I said "yes, please, that would be great." (Angry Server is NOT the woman who seated us, fyi) She comes back with the check, and refills our water. While in the process of refilling our water glasses, she slams my daughters glass down onto the table. It was uncomfortable, bizarre, and frankly, I dont want to deal with angry servers! ike I said, I can get that static at home. The non-Asian servers are either flustered or angry, and its taken out on the customers. Maybe its a bad idea, but I will give it another try on a different day of the week & different time of day.

Maybe we picked a bad day, but this was probably the worse thai food Ive tasted....ever. I generally dont take the time to write reviews unless I was thoroughly impressed with my experience, b/c a lot of negative reviews are really just relative to the individuals preference. My husband and I decided to try a new thai place (between ypsi-AA, weve been to ~7 different ones), and I really have no words for how bad our dishes were. How do you ruin pad thai & drunken noodles? Well, the pad thai was padded with tofu & the little bit of chicken that was in it was dry/overcooked. The drunken noodles were experiencing a bit of a drought and were smothered in green peppers to the point that the peppers were the dominant flavor. Im typically not a picky eater, but this was probably the ABSOLUTE first time Ive ever went to any restaurant and pushed my plate to the side. When the waiter came to check on us (probably after noticing I wasnt eating) I let him know (something I dont do) that I was not satisfied with the flavor of my dish. To top off the bad food, I feel I was given poor customer service. All I was offered was another portion of the same dish. WHY WOULD I WANT THE SAME THING? Surely, once I turned that down, I had expectations to have it taken off of our bill. It was not. We paid, tipped, and left. After all that, I ended up in the bed for a full 24 hours, b/c of potential food poisoning. While I cannot say for sure that it was from Lotus thai, Id be very shocked to find out where it was actually from. Shortly after my recovery, my husband started to get sick. Coincidentally, Lotus thai was the only shared meal we experienced that entire day. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.

I didnt even go to this restaurant.. just called in to make an order. The guy on the other end was completely rude to me from the very beginning of the call. I asked him if they delivered, and he scoffed at me like I was an idiot. So clearly they didnt... I guess? I then asked him about the pad thai (i have an extreme food allergy and it has to be specific) and he seemed very annoyed with me. I put in my order and when we were done talking he just hung up me without even a goodbye or a thank you for your order. By this point I was really annoyed, but I had realized that I needed to change my pick-up time by 15 minutes. Hesitantly, I called him back (they must have caller id) the same guy was a complete jerk since Im assuming he knew it was me again. (For the record, I feel like I was totally cordial the entire time) I asked if I could pick it up later than we had said and he said they had already made it. Umm.. really? In the 30 seconds I had just talked to him, they whipped it out just like that? He said it was just impossible for them to hold off making it (or heaven forbid they STOP making it) so he said I would just have to have the dish they already made and let it sit for a 1/2 hour.So finally told him to forget it all together and hung up the phone. I guess I will never know how the food tastes there because of some jerky guy.
