I gave this place a 5 star rating based upon the chef who made it happened. Im a sushi addict who always shops around for the best place for sushi. But in my travel, I noticed that is not the establishment but the chef in charge who makes the difference. I visited this little sushi bar because of many on line reviews about this great chef. Who is knowledgeable and friendly? Aside from the poor service I got from the waitress, Chef Jack made up for all the unpleasantness. I thought I knew about Sushi...then I was quickly educated by Chef Jack. As he would preferred to said "I just sharing my experience with you, my friend” He’s got a great following almost like a cult. I overheard many people who actually traveled quite a bit just to see him. One gentleman whos from Rome was sitting next to me and suggested to me to ask for the chef choice (Omakase menu). I was very happy to had done so. The man later told me ever since he ate Chef Jacks Sushi, he was hooked. Whenever he comes to town, he must stop by for a visit. Other people at the counter had also told me that they too have traveled a great distance as well. The local resident in Decatur adores Chef Jack like their own family member. It was an amazing experience. One thing I couldnt figure out is why a great chef like him chooses to fly under the radar for all these years. Chef Jack replied I only want to make my guest happy. A small establishment such as this cant handle the large crowd. Besides, as long as everyone is happy and content, I believed I had done my job right." As I sat through the night sharing conversations with the chef and the guest, I get a chance to see what more this chef has to offered. I had to say that I have had the privilege to witness greatness. Each one of Chef Jacks dish is made with precision and care. It truly reflects a chefs passion for his craft and the love of his hometown. I just wish I could have room to eat more food so I can try them all. Sadly the night comes to an end. I went home happy. I couldn’t wait for my next visit. But my business kept me so busy, I havent been able to find time to go back. I recently went back for my second visit. I was shocked to have learned that chef Jack no longer works there. Hes going to open his own place soon in North Georgia. I tried the sushi made by the replacement sushi chef. But it wasn’t good as before. Somehow the feeling isnt the same anymore. The service is still bad and the fish is fresh, but something is missing. I never knew a chef can make such difference. I know now. Sushi chef Jack is by far the best sushi chef I have the pleasure to have him prepared my food.

This place gets a 3.5 from me. Got there this past Friday at prime dinner time. Okay, coming in and waiting to be seated is kind of weird. There is a small little area with a seating bench and a sign that says, "Wait to be seated" but there is no hostess standing there (not like they could) and my friend ended up walking to the stairs to get someones attention and let them know 2 people were waiting to be seated. We waited for a while and then I ended up having to go to the stairs to let the ladies know there were 2 people waiting to be seated. Perhaps management should have a chime or a camera as to where the waitresses can see when new patrons come in. Finally a waitress seats us, after my appearance at the stairs, and brings us water. After browsing over the menu I ordered a seaweed salad and the White Roll with no avocado. I shouldve also ordered 2 pieces of nigiri, but I didnt think about it until later. The seaweed salad was really good and was what was brought out first. Next, came my roll and I definitely enjoyed it! The fish tasted fresh and the roll was cut into decent sized pieces. Should the roll have been bigger? Nah, it was good for what it was I think. Someone that eats more than me would have maybe disagreed. Good food all at decent prices and this is not a place that you would over spend for what you get. I would come here again for sure though! These two young men next to us had this course that involved them having soup and a salad to start and then this platter that consisted of various nigiri.... Ahhhh, that looked so darn good!!

The place might have OK food, but they have terrible service. My issue is, the closing sign says they close at 2:30 pm from M-F; however, when I called at 2:15pm to place a to go order, the lady said they were closed. So when I arrived at the Ponce location to check their closing sign, it said they closed at 2:30pm. When I went inside I asked to speak to a manager & the lady said "The staff went home" ... So you mean to tell me there is no supervisor available? At this time it was 2:20pm... There were also 3 customers seating down eating. So I asked the lady since im inside you establishment can I place my order? She said no, they where closed... However the sign says they dont close till 2:30pm and it was 2:20pm... This location is really close to my job, but i will not be going here any more because I feel it is bad business to close your doors, when your sign and information all over says you dont close till 2:30pm... There are so many better Sushi places around with way better service.. I will not EVER go here again............ TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE

Nestled on the “square” in quaint downtown Decatur, this is a comfy sushi bar with an inviting atmosphere and attentive servers. What pulled me in? The sushi lunch special! Ideally priced at $6.95 , the special includes a small salad and hot miso soup. The lunch special sushi selection contains generous rolls, of tuna , salmon, shrimp, and California rolls( no subs). It’s roughly 14 or more pieces that beautifully highlighted salmon, and shrimp in the center of the plate. Very filling for one person and ideal for novice sushi fans. They say good service is priceless and I agree! The servers were prompt and polite and thanked me so many times, I chuckled. You can dine inside or outside, for a bit of ambiance, try the bar! When in downtown Decatur and on the square, if you are craving sushi in a cozy atmosphere... stop by Sushi Ave. I was very pleased and will now make this my sushi stop when in Decatur.

Took forever for a waiter to get our drink order. My beer was good, my wifes glass of wine had to be sent back. My food comes out and my wifes does not. We think it is just taking a bit longer so we just share my plate. Waiter comes out and drops the check off...I am not even half way done with my meal and wife does not have food yet!!! We tell him and he goes, oh I guess I lost the ticket hold on. Her food comes out. Both dishes were good. Server would not come back to the table. I had to waive another dude down for the check. Went next door for drinks at Iberian Pig and it saved a pretty lousy dining experience. Sushi Ave is on my never again list.
