I really, really like this place. The crowd is a nice eclectic group of people that bring a charm to this already charming place. The food is always good and can be worth the wait. The reason Im giving it 1 star is that ordering food to go from them can be a crap shoot on all your food being in the bag when you get home. Ive ordered to go from them a number of times over the years and Ive now gotten home with stuff missing more times than Ive had the order right. Sure, its not a big deal to check my order before I leave but honestly, I shouldnt have to. Call me lazy but whoever brings me my food should look at the ticket and check the bag to make sure the kitchen staff read it and put it all in there. What really prompted me to write this post today is the fact they werent busy when I called in my order to grab on my way. After fighting morning traffic from there and sitting down to open my bag and find the bacon missing. I ordered eggs, bacon and biscuits with gravy. Essentially they forgot 1/3 of my order. This is my first time going back since last spring when I took out of town family to see how great the place was. Unfortunately the waiter we had was the worst Id seen in my life. He took our drink orders and food orders. We got out drinks but after waiting 30 minutes for our food we walked out. He was sitting at a table talking to patrons about fashion while they ate as 2 other tables after us were almost finished eating before we gave up. I called after we left to explain to the owner who was apologetic and offered us a free meal if we would come back. We didnt go back because Im just not comfortable with having to ask for good service and free food. The service should be good to begin with. This is my last time ordering from them, Im taking my business to the other diners that have opened around Grant Park. Hopefully this will prompt the owners to stay on top of their staff to make sure that every visit is positive everyday.

This place is so freaking good its amazing. Sure, the restaurant has a lived in, vintage look, especially the back section where the ceiling tiles look like they might fall down on your head, but that just adds to the no frills, casual charm. The food is simply delicious homey comfort food. Theres no salads or gussied up vegetables pretending to be a meal on this menu. Everything is tasty and substantial. My personal favorites are the fried bologna sandwich and of course, the comfy chicken. I really love the decor and ambiance of Homegrown. Everything is local artist, comfortable and casual. Theres a great flea market store in the back of the restaurant that has fun and cheap finds. Make sure to check it out if you go on the weekend because there will be a wait for sure and you can hang out back there and they will come and find you. This place is truly perfect for a relaxed, no pretentiousness, wear the clothes you slept in, no shower, possibly hungover, delicious food with impeccable, great service. A major driving force behind starting my own business is that I will then be able to go to Homegrown every day!

Came here with some friends for the first time on Sunday. This place is very busy and they dont accept reservations so if you come to eat bring your patience with you. Theres a list you need to put your name on and you may have to shuffle passed all the people that I already signed up, to add your name. It took about 30 minutes for our table of four to be seated. I ended up getting the comfy chicken biscuit and a side pancake. My chicken biscuit in all of its gravy glory was really tasty and enjoyable. The price was also very reasonable. From my understanding, its one of their most popular dishes and I can see why. The pancake on the other hand was not tasty to me at all. It was huge but it was very thick and tough to eat. My other friend that ordered the pancake stack felt the same way. She barely ate one full pancake. They were not fluffy at all. The orange juice was tasty and our server was very friendly and attentive. I could see myself going back for the biscuit. Id give it a 3.5 but Ill go for 4.

How did I find it? I was looking online for a good place that served breakfast when I was blessed...yes blessed to to have Home Grown pop up as a suggested restaurant. The food? So of course I was beyond ecstatic to go and try the place and I was NOT disappointed at all! I ordered the chicken biscuit with a side of potatoes (they were kind enough to saute me some onions with the potatoes) my little niece ordered one pancake, an order of eggs, bacon, and fruit. The chicken was absolutely divine, the pancake was unbelievably huge yet delish, the bacon was fried perfectly and perfectly flavored. Now to the reason I did not give five stars...my biscuit was dry, bland, and burnt at the bottom. The onions that were served with my potatoes were extremely overcooked and mushy. The potatoes were like rocks...will not order any of those things again however the good news is the bad DID NOT out weight the good.

Every time we go to Home Grown, we have a feel of being at your uncles house getting ready for breakfast. I came from a restaurant background, at a place that was desperately trying to be Home Grown. I can tell you they never will be! Dont come here if you like stuffy atmospheres, quiet settings and snooty servers. Because you will not find that here. Definitely come if you want amazing food, friendly and engaging server and a team of restaurant owners that actually work in their establishment. Kevin and Lisa, not to be confused with Courtney (they are identical twins) who is also a server there, know how to make you feel welcome into their place and their hearts. If you come out on a Sunday chances are you will see Tony and myself enjoying a Comfy Biscuit and Steak hash plate. The roots of this amazing place are definitely HOME GROWN!

I tried your restaurant for the first time today. I am very disappointed with the customer service provided by the counter staff. After being greeted professionally by your male host and provided a brief tour of your venue, I decided to sit at the counter. At the time, there was only a couple of people at the counter. The counter waitress walked passed by for approximately fives without saying a word. Then, a young gentleman sat next to me. Not only did the counter waitress stop to speak to him, but gave him silverware and provided took his order. Then, she returned to speak to me to get my order. First impressions are everything in business. I have posted these comments on several sites and will continue to tell everyone that I meet about the poor service provided.

I had never heard of this place but was taken here for breakfast/lunch. I was very surprised when I walked in because I wasnt expecting much based on its surroundings. Inside was very cute and I love that they have someone playing the keyboard. The staff is very pleasant and helpful when it comes to ordering.. we had the comfy chicken biscuit and the French toast sandwich which were both delicious. We topped it off with their chocolate cake which would make any chocolate lover smile. Also, just as a side note.. we didnt order them but if you decide to go with the pancake stack.. make sure you have someone to share it with because it consists of 3 HUGE pancakes.. you could actually order 1 stack to share among 3 ppl and then just get sides... they looked yummy too!
