I was here yesterday and I cant tell you how pissed off I was! The food was good, that was not the issue. We got here for lunch around 11:30 way before the crowd. Been coming to this play for years and service is a hit or miss when they have turnovers. By 12:30 everyone around us got their food except us....Even the other tables were looking at us surprised that we were still waiting. The waitress failed to follow up with us and I had to hunt down the manager. Not sure if she was the owner. Our lunch time was up and we had to be back at the office. The manager then delivered our food, but by then we had to leave so I ask to put in to go containers. That was just comedy then... Then were ask to pay and wasnt even compensated for it. I wasnt looking for a freebie but paid the full price. Then the manager gave us gift cards for our next visit. I learned once I got back to work that the value of the gift card was only $5....REALLY...WTF... I was furious and just threw it away! It will be a long time before I go back. I work nearby where there is about 5,000 employees so they do get a lot of our employees for business. Slowly people are finding out about their slow service and lack of response or recovery. This is the second time in a couple of weeks where the staff keeps failing to respond to customers that are still waiting for their food or service. The owner or manager needs to step up and do something different to train their staff on response time and learn to apologize to their customers when things to wrong. There was so many missed opportunities that they could of done and I left out other details, but I think youll get the picture. If you go give yourself a couple of hours or so and just watch how that staff works.

UPDATE (11/25/14): Ive been to many a sushi restaurant in Tampa and other major metropolitan areas. Origami, for the price is a very good value. The quantity of the rolls (size) are some of he biggest Ive seen for the price. The quality and taste is good as well. I have never been disappointed coming here. Today we had the spicy tuna roll, Tampa, roll and lava roll along with salmon & tuna sashimi. The sashimi was exceptionally tasty as well as the lava roll, one of my favorites at Origamis. The atmosphere is nice. You also might want to bring a sweater because it is always chilly in the restaurant. Pretty darn good sushi in Tampa and not expected to be found on Waters Ave. The staff have always been extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The place has a wide array of sushi selections. At times they can be a bit slow but I prefer slow as long as they have perfection. The quality and assembly of the sushi is consistent and has always been fresh. The decor is very trendy looking and the place has very clean looking atmosphere to it. The temperature can be a bit on the cold side so ladies you may want to cover up a bit or you may find yourself a bit chilly.

I am not going to lie when I say sushi wasn’t my favorite type of food. But I went in with an open mind, and ordered a variety of sushi. Without a doubt, it turned me into a huge fan. When the appetizer was first brought out, it was neatly arranged on the plate, something that gets lost a lot in the dining experience. Right on time, my sushi arrived and it was displayed so nicely - an arrangement of colors, reds, oranges, pinks, greens. The Crazy Horse is my absolute favorite; it is spicy and crunchy. Two qualities that I never really thought of with sushi. Origami Sushi’s menu doesn’t stop there – a menu full of treats such as Tonkatsu, Japanese fried pork, Origami Chicken, a tangy sauce-coated fried chicken, beef dishes, foreign and domestic beers, sake, all for very reasonable prices. Their head sushi chef is from Japan, so I really feel as if I am getting something truly authentic. Ive gone back many times, and will continue to recommend it to anyone who asks.

THE SUSHI LOVE MAY OR MAY NOT DEPENDING= With Mega Sushi portions, these rolls will definitely keep out the hunger. But with totally gimmicky, soooo-American style, Rolls typically swimming in Sauces and Tempura—it will also keep out Sushi purists. I’ve even tried the simpler Rolls which also appear in giant form- except the Rice was definitely firmer than it should’ve been and—strange—where did the Fish’s original flavor go? Totally not there. SWANKY ATMOSPHERE= Dim lighting and blue neon highlights display a swanky bar atmosphere… and their cocktails are decent. SERVICE AND END= Service can be so-so with mild understaffing problems. But like the Sushi Rolls this place seems to be all flashy with no substance. I’m not the demographic.

Ill keep this short because I can write a few pages worth about how much better this place is comparing to most other sushi places in Tampa Bay. Sushi is just (literally) picture perfect. Presentation of food is very nice, I pretty much feel bad for eating the food. You get huge rolls that are full of flavor. Price point is excellent or incredible if you do their 4-7 happy hour specials. Service is good and very friendly. I found this place through google reviews and I was not disappointed. Ive been going to this place for a little over a year now and highly recommend for you to check it out. When you go there.. Crazy Horse roll. Get it!

Wife and I stopped in for lunch on Sunday afternoon for the first time. Must say I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff and speed of service. I asked for a lemon for my iced tea, but was informed they only have limes. As weird as that sounds, the lime was actually pretty good! We both got the lunch special which is served everyday. The prices are good too. For 2 sushi rolls, ginger salad, and miso its only $10! You can add another roll for just a few dollars more. If youre looking for sushi, youll find this place to have excellent food and value!

I was surprised at how inexpensive everything is at Origami Sushi. Rolls are LARGE and so is the selection. Picture menu is unique, makes ordering easy. Pass on the Scallop Salsa roll...scallop wasnt bad, but its just a strange combination. Scorched Earth was rich & delicious. Definitely in my top 5 Tampa Sushi restaurants. Service wasnt super fast even with 4 chefs working, but we went on a Friday night with the place about 80% full and two large tables (birthdays) going on. Ive waited longer for lesser-quality sushi, though.

I decided to try this place out after reading the reviews. There is a wide variety of food to try from and the ambiance was nice. Everyone was nice, cordial and the service was quick and attentive. The food was fresh and tasty, very good actually! The reason for the four stars is because for dinner it can get fairly expensive. I would like to have seen a dinner special similar to the lunch specials, even if it was a little bit more. Go before 4pm and take advantage of the specials.
