Several years ago, my boyfriend and I went here regularly. Since I was gluten-free I would ask if they could hold the toast but give me as much additional grits as the toast was worth on their regular eggs, grits, and toast meal. No problem for like 4 months. Then one day, we go in, and they charge me $3.50 for a HUGE bowl of grits (mind you, my meal already comes with grits, so I dont need a ton more), making my simple breakfast, roughly 10 bucks for 2 eggs and an ungodly amount of grits. A week or two later, we called explained the issue and asked if I could get the usual with no extra charge for exchanging toast for grits. They say "No problem." We drive 25 minutes across town to come, and then the waiter tells us hes "only" going to charge a dollar extra. It was the exact same waiter we talked to on the phone who said no charge. We said we came because of the agreement we had on the phone, so if they werent able to honor it, we were leaving. The waiter (he was really young), threw a temper tantrum-- storming off, screaming a profane name at us, and throwing something in the kitchen. At this point the owner or manager asked us what the problem was, we told him, and he said something like "Youre going to leave over a dollar?" My boyfriend responded with "Youre going to lose a customer over a dollar?" And the owner asked us to stay (though we had to pay for the meal, just no extra charge for the grits swap and no apology for the waiters tantrum). For some reason, we agreed, hated the meal, tipped our new waitress well, and have never returned to this location.

Bottom line: FIVE stars for local flair, culinary creativity, "whos-who" sightings, comfort, service and "al fresco" exclusivity. Canopy Road Cafe (CRC) is one of a hand-count of TLH greats for breakfast and lunch. You WILL wait on a weekend morning. On a weekday morning, you may wait as well. Its unusual to see such a creative and unique menu such as this one. Often, diverse menus collapse under their own breadth, and it can be confusing where to direct your attention. This one here is clearly categorized and described. Some of my favorites? Sure (rather than go into painful detail, google the menu if youd like and follow along. Im going in order left/right, top/bottom) Under "Light Starters" - I like the "Back to Basics". (I had a modified version this morning, adding a big ole link as well as bacon, and subbing avocado for spinach). Under "Handhelds" I have a weakness for the "Mutts Club" Under "Omelettes" - these are are good and creative, but I have a narrow band when it comes to Omelettes, so just call me the "Jalapenos, Mushroom, Sprouts, Spinach and Swiss" guy. Under "Skillets" - Im a "Beebee with Swiss / sub Jalapenos for Bell Peppes" guy. Im sure stuff on the Griddle & Pancakes section is all great - I see my kids and wife order from there. Its just not my bag. To paraphrase a bumpersticker: "No CRC, No TLH - - Know CRC, Know TLH"

Went there on a Sat morning around 10:45am, First off I was really treated like they were doing me a favor by taking my name to be on the waiting to be seated list. Then was told to wait outside in the hot and nasty area in the front. After almost an hour ( I WAS TOLD 15 MINS) I was called for a table only to be seated so close to other people eating that our elbows hit when we moved . The Food was soo over priced and was nasty. I took maybe three bites and stopped. My mothers food was not cooked the way she wanted it nor was my dads. When we complained to the waiter ( WITH pink hair) she acted like that was normal because she said Oh again! This by Far was the Nastiest Place and People in any restaurant I have ever been and I nor will my friends will ever go back. Out side in the front where I waited I saw so many roaches and bugs. Please Dont eat there!

Go to this restaurant on a weekly basis for breakfast. Went there today and was seated in the back where there was only one other family. There were several servers walking around, we waited and we waited patiently while everyone kept walking past us. No one asked if we wanted any drinks, nothing. Meanwhile, as I stated we go there on a weekly basis, we always tip very well and this is the service we are receiving? A couple walks in, is seated in a table across from us and a server immediately comes over after they know we have been sitting for a long time and asks them what they would like to drink! We are normally very patient but this was unacceptable and we walked out. We drove down the road and we will now be going to The Egg every weekend, great customer service and good food!

This is close to my house. I have to get there early or face out the door crowds. I do not like the parking lot as we sometimes encounter vagrants and its a tight place to park especially since the workout place next door recently opened and parkings at a premium now. However, when I do get in safely its a wonderful place to be and it smells wonderful in there. The breakfast comes out hot and unbelievably fast. I eat what I can there and always take the pancakes home for another time since I hate to cook breakfast. They are big as your head and they reheat fine the next day and even freeze fine. I have never had anything bad there, thats for sure. Get there early tho!!

My friends and I traveled into town for a wedding and wanted to get brunch the morning after and, wow...this place certainly did not disappoint. Everything made was absolutely delicious. The cinnamon roll was fluffy, moist, and perfectly flavored. The griddle meals, omelets, and pancakes we ordered were all prepared to a perfection our stomachs had never experienced before. My hometown breakfast places cant even compete with how good this place is. I will certainly be returning if Im ever back in Tallahassee.

This is a great little breakfast place. The staff is always friendly and the food is usually great. This isnt an upscale hoity toity place so dont expect it to be so. Its a basic breakfast nook. Also, go before 9am or else there will be a wait, just like every other breakfast place on the planet. Not sure why others have rated it so low because they decided to go at the worst times. Thats on them, not this place.

I passed through Tallahassee during a road trip, and decided to grab some lunch at Canopy Road Cafe. This is a nice little place located just a few minutes off of Interstate 10 in a nondescript strip mall.. They offer good, homestyle cooking at a pretty cheap price. The place is rather small, but there wasnt much of a wait. The food was tasty, and the service was great. Overall a nice little place.

I was expecting this place to be really good after the high rating, but it was really poor quality. The food was horrible and the place was dirty. The bathroom was gross. Plus we waited 45 minutes for a table and another 30 for our food. My 4 year old son wouldnt eat the pancakes because he said they tasted horrible. How do you mess up pancakes? We will not be returning.
