Went to Mikado Friday night with friends we hadnt seen since last winter. Their choice, our treat. There were 5 of us and apparently they force a 20% gratuity on parties of 5 or more. We were unaware of this, and tipped on top on the bottom line. We were not given an itemized bill - only the bottom line. Maybe if we werent forced to order quickly because there were other people at the communal table waiting I would have read the entire menu and the small print. The waiter should have told us. Now the restaurant will not give us a credit on our credit card - only a restaurant credit. We dont live here and dont want a restaurant credit. Not customer friendly - first deciding what we will pay, and then quite willingly taking 2 tips.

I have lived in Saint Augustine for several years now and I’m honest and proud to say that Mikato is the best hibachi and sushi restaurant in town yet this place has excellent hospitality and friendly owner down to staffs. This place can get packed sometimes and you will know why because the quality of services and best quality of foods in town that people are rush to get in. My family has been going to Mikato for many many times and it has never been wrong or disappointed. The quality of food is always excellent and freshness of sushi is awesome. The sushi chef does amazing job with making all sorts of dishes for customers. We will definitely keep going back there.

I have no idea how some of the reviews above were so negative. Possibly Mikado has changed since then. I took my son to Mikado for his fourteenth birthday at his request. He has been before. This was my first time. The food was great. The show the chef put on while cooking in front of you was very fun. The entire staff was happy and friendly. Service was good. The restaurant appeared clean and newly renovated. Was not easy on the wallet but was worth it due to the great experience. Would recommend Mikado to anyone.

Cons: - We met family there and were automatically charged a 20% gratuity, even though we were only a party of 3 - Very dirty restaurant - Unfriendly wait-staff - Hostile Management - Overpriced (sub-par) Sushi - High chairs were covered with dried food and soy sauce residue - Bathrooms were unclean and do not have a baby changing station. Pros: - Our Hibachi cook was nice and did a good job on my scallops.

Been going to mikatos for years... Honestly my entire life. Im a big fan of hibachi style dinning as I visit one in most state,city,town I have stayed in but mikatos will always be my favorite. Sushi rolls are rolled very well and they load whasbi into the shrimp Nigeri rolls (pardon my spelling if its wrong) this is a place to go anytime you visit the st Augustine area it simply is the best!

Worst Japanese resturant I ever ate at. I was expecting to go to a hibachi steakhouse and enjoy my visit. I have never been to a Japanese hibachi grill and would have to pay $1.85 extra for FRIED rice! When they are already clearly cooking in front of you on a grill. The chicken also didnt taste too well. The sushi was good tho. I would never visit the resturant again.

Excellent sushi with many interesting unique dishes. Squid salad was one of the best that Ive ever had. Sashimi platter has a great assortment or they will adjust according to your request. Service is slow at times but owner steps in and makes the difference. Prices are comparable to any good sushi bar. Have not tried the hibachi. Definitely a gem !

I love this place. You can just walk in and grab a table for sushi or menu service, sit at the counter and watch the friendly sushi chefs whip up artistic plates of fish and rice, or wait for a grill table for a funny and flavorful dinner show. I go here once a week and have for years. Best sushi in town. Its our birthday dinner every year too:)

one of my favorite places to go. we always ask for Sam. the one time we didnt we got a guy that was very still and overcooked the food. Sam keeps you laughing and cooks the food wonderfully. the portion size has continued to go down over time, some days seem worse than others. for a fun or special night out, it is worth it.

I love this restaurant! Especially the hibachi. I Always get the dinner for 2 steak and shrimp deal with fried rice to share with a friend and always manage to take home the left overs to enjoy a whole entire meal again. Extremely entertaining chefs that create fire on the grill and the hot sake goes down a treat.

Excellent food and value. The service was great also. We had the Dolphin roll, edamame and tuna chopped salad. For anyone on a gluten free diet, the tuna chopped salad had great chunks of fresh tuna, a delicious spicy sauce and seaweed salad. Every dish was delicious. We will be back again soon.

The food is very good, but we had a ridiculously long wait. We were seated for half an hour before they even took our order and then another half hour before they brought out the soup that starts the meal. It is also very expensive, and they have a $15 minimum charge per seat.

It was an alright experience. The staff wasnt that friendly, but they got our food right. I would say that the sashimi (raw fish) we got was a bit spoiled, so we had to throw that out.

This sushi was okay. But dont order it to go as it was not that great. I wanted a seaweed salad and paid 5.50 for it. I also ordered 2 ginger side salads and got charged $3.25 each.

Sushi was fishy. Restaurant was dirty. Hibachi was mediocre at best. Not worth the price either. Service was good unlike other reviews I read before coming. I wont be back to eat.
