I go to Takeyas for my birthday every year as well as the occasional weekend dinner out; however, this is the last time I will ever spend my money there. Our wait time to be seated was an hour and fifteen minutes for a party of ten. A second party of nine came in right after us, and after it had reached the hour mark and we had all seen multiple smaller parties (who did not have reservations) be seated together before our two parties were sat, the gentlemen in the other party asked the manager why it was taking so long and why wed seen other people sat before us. The managers response was "we have a list and thats what we go by", and after a bit more conversation the manager said "thats what the list is for". After being given no explanation or apology for the wait, that second large party of nine walked. I was on the verge but did not since I had a couple elderly people in my party and we were being sat next. As soon as we were seated we were not even greeted but rushed to spit out our drink orders. The waitress for the evening was overall rude and had bad table side manner. My sister and I have both worked in the restaurant industry for eight plus years so we understand how it can be on a Saturday night, but there was no excuse for the poor level of service we received. The biggest problem I had with the entire evening was I had ordered my son a childs NY strip steak, well done, with steamed rice. We never received the steamed rice, even after mentioning it two separate times to the waitress. Then, my sons steak wasnt even on the chefs tray. It was the end of the meal and my son never got his rice or his steak. The chef ran back to the kitchen and did prepare his steak before cleaning the grill and leaving the table. My son wouldnt eat his steak because it was cold, after inspection because I had seen it just come off the grill, it was cold because it was very rare. Needless to say, my seven year old refused to eat it and I was not happy at this point. The waitress came back with our checks and I told her my son never received his rice, and his steak was inedible, her response "why didnt you ask the chef to cook it more?" Well, the chef probably would have had he not been finished with the entire meal and cleaned the grill and cooked his steak within a matter of four minutes because his steak was never on the tray. So at an attempt to smooth over the evenings events the waitress complained how a coworker called out for food poisoning but was posting pictures on snapchat out with her friends and she " was going to kill her" when she got back, and she did take off our sodas. Out of the ten people at the table, three ordered water and two had alcoholic beverages. So she spared us two childrens sprites and four cokes. And I was required to pay for and tip 18% gratuity for the worse restaurant experience I think I have ever had. And yes, I had to pay for a $12.95 childs steak meal that he never received. We never got the rice, and after taking our steak away, she never returned with a new one in a box to go or any explanation other than it was the chefs fault. I will never take my money or family back to this establishment. Had the manager treated his customers differently in the beginning, or the waitress simply say when were seated that they were understaffed and things would be moving a bit slow, the entire experience could have gone in a completely different direction. Unfortunately, based on the attitude from the front of the house staff, they dont care.

Went to dinner with my family of eight the other night. We called ahead and arrived on time. It was Friday so we expected to wait. An hour and a half later (mind you, we had three toddlers with us), we actually heard the manager instruct the hostess to seat a party of eleven before us because they were his friends! We actually HEARD him say this to the hostess. She said "we have parties who have been waiting for an hour and an hour and a half." He the said, literally said, "I dont care, Joe [the name of the party] is my friend." I approached the hostess who apologized and explained that he is the manager so she has to listen to him (his name is Dominico "Dom" Bui, by the way--youll see him at the bottom giving his own restaurant a five star rating). I then approached him. His excuse was that they called ahead, well so did we! Then he said they had been waiting a while, well so did we! (I saw them walk in about 10 minutes before this incident.) After that horrific treatment, we walked out. We will never go back. Side note: as we were walking out, we called Tokyo (a hibachi place down the street from Takeya) and told them what happened. They not only held a table for us so we could sit as soon as we walked in, they also gave us a complimentary carafe of saki to apologize for the terrible service at Takeya! Tokyo will get all of our business from now on.

I use to love this place. Hadnt been in years but was in town. I went in last night at 9:30, realized they wanted to close so I went to leave but was told to stay. Bad choice. I ordered $40 worth of sushi and apps. It was terrible. The salmon was not smoked it was translucent with zero hint of smoked smell or taste but the chef said it was smoked. So did the manager I just spoke to he just said a lot of people dont think its smoked...okay? The shrimp were not cleaned, cold, and old from being fried hours prior. The peanut sauce that comes with the summer rolls burned my mouth, it was so rancid. She said "sorry" and brought more and said "it was newer only a few days ago made" it was just as rancid. So I spent 40 dollars and ate a salad and clear soup. I felt bad returning it all and leaving... as it was the end of the night but I wish I did. The manager just did nothing but told me I should have sent it back. I tried in a friendly way but got excuses and new sauces and free salad, which is bag lettuce with dressing. It use to be the best. I wont return. And Ill spare the kitchen details my good friend shared with me from being a waitress there. Maybe stick to rice and chicken cooked in front you, expensive but pretty hard to mess up? I never write reviews. So know me experience sucked.

First and foremost I did want to say that the service here was excellent. Layla and our hibachi chef were amazing. We did have to wait a bit, which was understandable as we came in as a party of two and needed to wait until enough people had arrived to fill a table. But once we sat down and our food arrived everything went south. When my girlfriend started eating her vegetable she noticed a creature staring back at her. There was a full grown ROACH that had been chomping on her broccoli before being roasted to death on the girl. This wasnt a piece of fried onion that could have been a roach leg, this was a very healthy cockroach. It was horrific. Never have we been out in a position like this at a restaurant. No, I didnt cause a scene or even let the waitress know as we didnt want to ruin everyones dinner and cause a commotion. Instead my girlfriend didnt touch her vegetables and was forced to eat only rice. These kind to things dont JUST happen, if a place is properly maintained they should never be contaminated, especially a place that charges $20-$30 a plate. Apparently this isnt the first time, read a little further and someone else found a roach in their drink. I could never, in good conscience, eat here again knowing that my food MAY have a roach, and wouldnt recommend it to anyone else.
