Off the Hook Raw Bar & Grill is one of the best places for thoughtfully prepared seafood in New Smyrna Beach (beachside). It has become our "go to" place for seafood in a town with abundant choices. Tucked away in the beachside Publix-anchored strip mall (Indian River Village), it lacks the elegance of a stand-alone restaurant or the ambience of a dockside eatery. Dont let those two missing attributes dissuade you--the service and food are excellent. At our most recent visit, Stacey was our server. In addition, the owners have done a decent job with the space, creating an ambience that is inviting and unpretentious. We have only scratched the surface of the menu--and have only ordered seafood for our entrees--but we have been consistently pleased with the outcomes. What we particularly like about this place is that they source fresh seafood and then prepare it in a straightforward manner to ensure that the freshness and flavor of the seafood are never eclipsed by other ingredients or fussy preparations. That said, the Cesar salad was a bit bland on the two occasions we ordered it. Off the Hook has a full-service bar as well as nightly happy hour and dinner specials. There are abundant flat-screen televisions--tuned to sports channels--throughout the facility. Reservations are not accepted. Generally, we have not experienced long waits for a table; however, one Saturday we had a 40-minute wait (We hung out at the bar.). NSB tends to be an early crowd. If you dont mind eating a little later in the evening, the crowd will have thinned.

We headed here to have a nice meal for our last night in Florida. I had been here about 18 mos ago and enjoyed it. Our visit was perfect as far as service and the delicious food (the rock shrimp are to die for)...the wait staff was very friendly the entire time we were there too. HOWEVER.....when I went to pay my bill, I was using a VISA gift card that I had received from my preschool students to pay my bill. I was informed by the waitress that they do not take those any longer.......I was very bummed about this. That meant I had to fork over an additional $50 I really didnt have to spend on a meal tonite. If these cards are not accepted....PLEASE let people know PRIOR to ordering with a sign posted..or something. I love the food...and was thinking of having my sons dinner party here when we come down from Michigan for his graduation from Palmer Chiropractic School in December.....but even tho this might seem like a small detail...it really isnt. What if I ONLY had that card and nothing else with me?? Then what?? Just looking out for the next customers.........You guys have a good thing going......dont ruin it ! THe waitress was awesome up until that point...then she seemed like oh well, TOO bad.... with not much explanation.

My husband and I stopped by for lunch with our daughters, we ordered the crawfish and gumbo as an appetizer. The crawfish was probably the nastiest crawfish we have had, very plain and no flavor. Most of the crawfish were dead before being cooked (based on the tails). The gumbo was no different, bland, way to thick, little meat just plain gross. To top things off my husband ordered the shrimp basket as well as my kids, I ordered the hot wings. The shrimp basket had very little shrimp for the whopping $18 they charge. Again no flavor. The hot wings had no sauce and tasted like rubber. I ate only 4 and was done. The waitress came to the table only 3 times max leaving us to ask another waitress for help when it was needed. If your looking for nasty over priced food and bad service you got it "off the hook" is your stop. We would highly recommend BJS Fish Camp for some amazing fish only a few miles down the road. As for crawfish and gumbo, we will be sticking with Craw Daddys in Shreveport, LA. -Your Friends from Dallas, TX.

I went there with my brother, mother and father. 4 dinners were ordered and 4 lousy dinners were served to us. I ordered the soft shell crab served over a bed of lettuce. Being a seafood eater, however, I had never had soft shell crabs and I thought I would try it since it was on the menu. The soft shell crab was a flat leather like shape of a crab that was not edible and still to this day dont think it was an actual crab but a crab shape cut out of some sort of animal hide. I asked my father if that was what a soft shell crab is supposed to look like and he said no. I removed the crab cut out and basically had just a plate of lettuce for dinner. My other 3 family members also complained about their dinners too.

We got the oysters and they were incredible! The manager (I think her name started with an M) was telling us how they decide which vendor to use and how she tries them personally everyday. It totally shows! We had them raw and we had them fried. Excellent both ways! We also had the Rock Shrimp. Equally delicious! The spinach artichoke crab dip was good, but not outstanding (like everything else). We were in NSB (from Orlando) for 3 days. We went to Off the Hook on the first night, to a different restaurant the 2nd night (and were disappointed), so we went back to Off the Hook on the 3rd night since we knew it would be great. And their hot sauces are very good too!

Unbelievably bad. Ordered the Oyster PoBoy. Asked the waitress how the PoBoys were, she says, "Our PoBoys are great", so I ordered. The sandwich ($12) comes and it was 6 deep fried oysters on a HOT DOG BUN(!?!). Ordered fries with it that tasted like they didnt change the grease for a couple of weeks. I told the waitress about the sandwich and then she says, "oh yea, we just changed to hot dogs buns last week". So what is it, are they good or not? NOT. By the way, Im a local and Ill never step foot in this ripoff joint again. Ill also let everyone I know not to waste there time or money eating there.

Found this place by accident one night after a discouraging run on Flagler avenue. What a delight. Kim and Cici were friendly and professional. My wife and I tried several different things as it was our first time there (wont be a the last ) everything was outstanding. Roasted ceder creek clams and otherside tuna are a must but EVERYTHING we had was truly special. If youre around New Smyrna do yourself a favor and give this place a try

Absolutely love this place. I just moved to New Smyrna Beach and this is one of the first places I ate. It has very quickly turned into my favorite restaurant here. The oysters are always fresh and huge. The Mahi tacos are my favorite lunch take-out. Great relaxing feel at the bar if you just want to grab a few drinks. Amy is a great bartender, and the owner Mike is as down-to-earth as they come. Excellent service and food.

We have eaten at Off the Hook several times and generally agree that it is good but not great. Some of the meals are very good (Blackened Cod) where others (Fried Grouper) are blah. They do run a Oyster Happy Hour on the weekend of $9 per dozen...they are a good size but nothing special. Prices are generally fair but ask what the market price is on any of the specials to avoid surprises.
