4 stars even tho it was an incredibly disappointing experience. Young male server was very pleasant even tho he forgot our drink orders every time and they repeatedly had to be ordered twice. But we didnt mind. Our appetizers came out timely. Our food unfortunately took well over an hour. The table that sat down 30 minutes after we ordered our food, well they received our food before we did. When we confronted the poor young server that was acting as manager for the evening about it, she said "I didnt know you had an issue." So we paid our bill in FULL and finally ate our food that was delightfully prepared. So we suggest that the owners actually take some ownership here and dont leave the place poorly staffed on a holiday weekend. 2 servers and 1 cook (as we were told) is a recipe for disaster on July 4th weekend in a beach town. Also, the young lady acting as manager should return to being a server and not ever be left in a position of management ever again as she has no inclination how to handle problems.

Nice looking little bar, probably better just for drinks. Service was sloooow, 25 minutes to take our dinner order with half the restaurant empty. Three servers all working in one group for some reason. Iced tea was bad (old) and they didnt have the beer we ordered from their menu. Tostones were dry and salty with sauce that tasted like ketchup and mayo. Caeser dressing was too vinegary but the house salad was awesome. Lamb was too lightly seasoned and not worth $20. Shrimp in coconut sauce was good but shrimp were like bullets, again not worth $20. Repeatedly heard "Im sorry" and "Sorry about that" from servers dealing with other diners throughout the night. Surprisingly poor service for such a slow night. I wish we had read the reviews and just gone to Spanish River Grill.

I am a local who use to eat here often, but will not be back for the food. The restaurant seems to be going downhill. We have been here twice in the last month or so. Both times I found a hair in my salad. The first time I sent it back. Last night there was a small hair in the bottom of my salad (which of course I didnt notice until the end so I said nothing). We attended dinner last night with another local family, who found a long hair in their chicken sandwich as well. Its too bad, this could be a nice little place, because the food is decent. However, its disgusting to find HAIR in your food that many times. It makes me question the cleanliness of their kitchen and staff. For what our dinner cost I regret not crossing the street and eating at Riverview.

Very cool atmosphere. We were there on a weekend so we had the opportunity to enjoy the live band. A friend of mine had mentioned how good the fish tacos were so I had to try them out. We started with our meal with the best tostones that I have ever tasted. They arrived with 2 different sauces and were a great accompaniment to my draft beer. When dinner arrived, we tried the fish tacos and a the Gnarly Burger. The burger was tender and definitely a real, hand crafted burger. The avocado on the burger was a great touch as well. The fish tacos were absolutely amazing. Not deep fried like most, but fresh and delicious. We were too full for dessert but Ill definitely be back.

We had great service today! Our server, Teri, was very attentive and friendly. That is always a bonus. Our chicken sandwich was great. I asked for a side of their hot sauce. It is called Fire Sauce made with ghost peppers. This stuff was great, very hot and very tasty. I loved it. they have $0.25 beers when the drawbridge opens. Another bonus! The music they played was kind of depressing. Acid Rock I believe. They definitely need to change to a Jimmy Buffett or reggae theme. Just my 2 cents.

Nice bar & restaurant to grab a drink or a snack near the beach side on Flagler Ave. near the bridge which this place has a special drink offer when the bridge is up and you get a beer for a special low price. The food has been great with nice sauces and fresh made with a super tasteful meal. Ive had the fish tacos, where great, and also the gator bites where good too. Good service and quick sitting, and ordering with no wait or hassle. Im a repeat customer and will continue to come back.

A very nice place for eating and enjoying food - the staff may seem a bit strange but I thought the waiter was enjoyable. The food itself was inexpensive and tasted great. The outdoor dining is full of smokers and isnt very enjoyable for people with class, but the indoor is very nice, and there is some good music playing as well. Overall, nice atmosphere [indoors], great food, good service. Would give it a 9/10

Fantastic and friendly environment with excellent food. I have dined at the Gnarly a number of times and the staff is attentive and the food is very good. The burgers are on the money and the Bunny Chow is my favorite. They have a new promotion...when the bridge goes up select beers are 25 cents. That is a great deal. I recommend this place for people looking for something new in New Smyrna

Very nice place! Every time I went to Gnarlys with my grandparents who are "regulars" they had my Mellow Yellow already in mind and had it out as we sat down! Ive never been to a place before with servers who do that for their customers! The Gnarly Burger and the California Chicken Sandwich were good! When I go back to Florida from New York I will most definitely want to go back!

We are locals and this place is one is one of our favorites! Eclectic menu, great food made with fresh quality ingredients. Great service every time, many of the servers are local surfers. Best of all......you get 25¢ draft beer every time the draw bridge goes up!!

Really good place. Only reason I dont do five stars on beach bars is because I think they are all overpriced for what they are. That said, the atmosphere rocks, the staff rocks, the food rocks, and Id highly recommend the place.

Well, I agree with some of the previous reviews, the prices are little high, and I tried to order a crown and coke, they have no Liquor, but the food was delicious, and service was pretty good.. Ill be back..

Ambitious menu. Properly cooked pork chop. They dont seem to get very busy, so they offer a wacky cheap beer promo. The service was friendly but about half of the FOH staff appeared sloppy.

Amazing atmosphere, excellent service and good food - could use some better parking but totally within walking distance of the Flagler shops so it isnt a big deal - great beer selection

Excellent house salad with figs and excellent Mahi fish tacos. Sitting outside in January was nice, especially come from Baltimore. Service was also good. Will definitely come back.

We liked it. Went with my daughter for lunch. Pretty wide array of dishes. You should find someting there to suit your hunger. Not on the beach but at the bridge. I would re-visit.
