After having read all the 5-star ratings I was really excited and stopped by on a Thursday evening. I was visiting DC and looking forward to something original. Upon arrival 10-minutes before 5PM the hostess indicated they would not be seating till 5PM and escorted us to the bar. This was fine as I was with a friend and decided to check out their bar menu. The service at the bar was great along with few interesting and unique cocktails. At 5PM the hostess escorted us to a near by table located within the bar area (front of the restaurant) We were quickly given menus and greeted by our server. We were still enjoying our drinks and looking over the menu. One thing which we could just not overlook was the seating arrangement and the tiny table. This could not be right, the table they sat us on could not even fit two proper plates let allow dishes and servings. We ordered up some food and asked the server to get us seated in a proper dinning area which was initially requested upon arrival to Rasika. Few minutes later the server returns with our food fully crowding the tiny table with more to come! I requested we move immediately as this would just not work. Apparently management stepped in and stated that they were booked and no seats were available in the dinning hall. Well WTF I thought as the table we were seated at could not have been larger than a toilet seat cover. Seemed very deceitful way to do business. We decided to finish up our appetizers before leaving this place since having a proper dinner was out of the question. Nor did we want to indulge in a place with such poor management qualities. The food was subpar to say the least. Although the menu looks great, flavors were a BIG miss. Nothing original as I had initial anticipated. Only item which tasted interesting were the popcorns given to us at the bar. I would not recommend this resturant which A) Nothing original here in terms of food and its flavours + presentation B)Poor, poor, poor management

Well..too much hype with this restaurant, I went there seeing these 5 star reviews on Google but came out disappointed. First the main thing, food. I have visited this restaurant twice. On first occasion the food was very good and the service was just OK. During this visit, the waiter served someone elses food on our table and came back after a minute to collect it back. We didnt touch it as we knew it wasnt ours but it was kind of awkward. Second trip, was more interesting. It was night time and the place was full of people and the reception told me to grab a seat at the bar, if i can and luckily i got it after 10 minutes. After 10 minutes the bar guy offered me water. I kept waiting for the menu to come, but it never came. There was one lying on my side of table and i grabbed it and decided my food. Almost 35 minutes passed and no-one wants to take the order. I tried to keep myself busy talking to other people in the bar meanwhile. Finally, I stopped the bar guy by myself and asked if I can order and he took my order.50 MINUTES PASSED and the food is nowhere to be found! Most of the crowd left the restaurant and it was almost half of it capacity now and I am still waiting for the food. At one point i thought to leave the place but didnt. The most funny part is they have a army of waiters, I think the management is the part they are badly lacking. Now the food came. I ordered Baingan Mirch ka Salan and some Rotis and Parathas and the curry didnt have anything except the Amchur powder(dry mango powder). So sour that it was difficult to eat!. Somehow i shoved it down my throat and paid $37 bill (including tip) for that crap. I am an Indian and myself and love cooking Indian food so my take here is...This place may be good for drinkers but is way OVERPRICED with the worst service you can imagine and very inconsistent food quality.

A friend of ours decided to take us to Rasika for a long due treat - and boy was it worth the wait! Our group of five planned to have a late lunch here. Apparently, the lunch menu is the same as the brunch menu. While we were initially disappointed that we couldnt order from the full menu, it didnt really impact the overall experience. The brunch menu is just a single page, but is replete with delicious options. We almost ended up ordering one of everything! The appetizers were absolutely delicious. If you have to pick just one, you must try a plate of the palak chaat (or two plates, like we did :-D ) For entrees, we picked Veggie Thali, Mutton Currey, Green Chicken Curry and Seafood curry. The dal in the veggie thali was scrumptious, the mutton was tender, the gravy was so-so. The seafood curry was tasty and green chicken curry was average, but tasty nonetheless. We sampled many of the cocktails, each apparently named after an actress (except for Kamini - which would be a tragic name for a person to have!) The bartender was clearly in a good mood because our drinks were strong and just the way we liked! In all, this was a memorable visit and I would strongly recommend anyone looking to sample some high end Indian delicacies to give Rasika a try. Please ignore folks that complain about the food not being spicy enough - Indian food is not just about blinding hot spice!

My sister T tried getting a reservation here for 2 weeks to no avail--lucky for us, when we walked in on Friday evening, there was a table for 2 in their lounge area. :) We were still planning to head to U Street for more food later, and had come from a different afternoon snack place (yes, were fatties)..so we didnt want to order too much. Got the famous "must-try" palak chaat (hilariously not "real" chaat, per my Indian boyfriend), and side-sized versions of the bhindi and the cholle...and naan. Palak Chaat--honestly I think its weird that a made-up snack is their most popular dish when theyre the most hyped Indian restaurant in DC, but Ill give it to them that its an interesting dish. I couldnt actually taste the spinach and have no idea how they made it--its crispy//almost dehydrated spinach-colored leaves..some coated in a reddish tempura-like batter. Interesting and flavorful. The bhindi and the cholle were both very tasty--not too spicy, nor too oily (I say this for the bhindi, which tends to get oily at restaurants) but true to more home-style Indian cooking. Good by me--if Im back in DC Ill be back to try the entrees. :)

Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to! It was tough to get a reservation and we ended up booking 2 tables instead of one big table. (Try getting a table for 10 at this place. It is next to impossible). In the end, they sat us at a table of eight and the other 2 sat in the adjacent table. Not exactly what we wanted, but they did their best to accommodate us. The Palak Chaat was highly recommended and one mouthful was enough to understand why. The grilled panneer was done to perfection and the vegetable hot pot curry was fantastic. The highlight of the lunch was the vegetable biriyani. The presentation and the taste were spectacular. Even the cucumber raitha was great. I hope I can go back another time and taste other items on their menu.
