Weird place. I wouldnt say do not eat there, but I certainly wouldnt recommend it. The salsa is good, the beans are heavy, but whatever, the beef in my tacos was "on the edge" I could smell that the meat was old when it was delivered -- I have 20+ years in upscale to fine dinning, there is a sort of sweat smell. The manager/owner basically never took her hands out of her pockets, even when she stopped by to see how it was and I asked for more of my beverage, she called over the waiter being trained who could barely communicate -- it wasnt the language barrier that was the problem, but that he was not a server yet and didnt know the menu -- although the owner didnt seem to either, I asked, "do they came with sour cream?" she said, "no." I said, "good I hate sour cream." The tacos come with sour cream!?! WTH? It was a meal that left me feeling not great for a day afterwards. It wasnt the beef -- that was old but not turned, in my professional opinion, it was just the heavily refried beans. Also, the rice was like bland and stale, not starchy like it was supper old, but like it had been sitting out unwrapped for a while. Very, very unremarkable to eh food with a remarkably off vibe. Oh, there main entrance door doesnt swing shut on its own. So you have to do it as you go through the double doors of the entrance -- this may sound petty, but such things in the front of the house suggest such things in the back of the house: dishwashers not properly functioning, not properly cleaned cutting boards, refrigeration not quite the right temperature, etc.

We read the reviews and decided to try the place out. We were looking for Authentic Mexican food but did not find it here. We ordered a pitcher of Margaritas which tasted like soap. We thought that maybe the glasses were just washed, no big deal. When we brought it to our waiters attention he said authentic sour mix tastes like soap and did not offer to replace. So we ordered beers instead and our food. The food was terrible. The fajita steak was gooey and the sour cream comes with peppercorn in it - although the menu does not say this. "Covered in cheeses" means they will "top" your food with a few pieces of american shredded cheese and not queso. I am a lover of Mexican food and even bad Mexican food is edible, but not this. The manager came over and basically said oh well you just dont like our food - what do you want me to do. We paid for our beers and walked a few blocks down to Union Pub where we had a great meal. DO NOT BY ANY MEANS waste your time or money here. Oh - and on the way out, we heard another table having an exchange with the waiter that went something like..."you did not have to glare at my husband..." Awful awful place.

This is the worst dining experience Ive had in DC. There was a very drunk group of four customers, who were yelling obscenities in the presence of toddlers at other tables. One of them even seemed to want to pick a fight with another table. I told the manager it wasnt right for him to allow this to be done to the other customers and their children, and he said nothing. The food was very average Mexican-nothing at all memorable. I even emailed them and asked them to addres it, and never got a reply. Absolutely a horrible situation-a nightmare.

As a single diner, I first look at where they seat me and how long it takes for them to acknowledge me. At La Loma, I was invisible from the moment I entered the door. After finally being seated on the far other side of the restaurant from everyone else, I was first grateful because of the screaming children running around the tables in the front. Then others arrived, so there were children running all over the place. Then, the food was only mediocre and the Margarita I ordered was mostly flavorless. I know that I will not be back.

La Loma is a great restaurant. Easy to get to from the Union Station Metro. The food is good, the service is fast, and for the area its located in, the pricing is great. The outdoor seating is great for a summer evening. I noticed in another poster mention that they dont split checks - Ive never had an issue with that, and weve gone with friends many times. As far as a $15 minimum on cards, Ive never noticed that there, but then again, Im not sure how you could spend under $15.

Worse than taco bell. The shrimp and spinach enchilada cam with a few pieces of shimp.....the tiny, tiny salad shrimp. the cheap flavorless shrimp. The chicken was pre-sliced stringy rubbery. No free refills on sodas. Plenty of ice tough. The water comes with no ice. Location, location, location. GO to Baja Fresh, Chipolte, District Taco, Taco Bell any where else. GO to the French or German spots next door even

After eating here a few times the staff treats you like family. The food is some of the best and the price is exceptional. It may not be able to handle large crowds so well and the space is limited but the food is well worth any small inconvenience. Definitely a must if you are anywhere near the nations Capitol building and want cheap eats that are great.

Absolutely delicious and love the food! The staff, however, is not always the most helpful; I dine there often because it is so close, but they can be incredibly rude. Also, it is not a good place to go with a large group...our food has taken up to an hour from the time we ordered. Note: $15 minimum charge on credit cards and they wont split checks.

The food is mediocre. The chips and salsa pretty lousy. Also, what really ticks me off is they dont refill soda. They probably charge $2 for a soda in the first place and then wont refill it - you have to buy another. Ive been here 2 times now joining a group from my office. I dont ever want to go back.

The food and service was great! The first thing you might think is that the further you get from the ethnic origins of a place, the more of a poor facsimile the food will be. Well not so here. This is as good as Texmex gets and its in DC! La Loma is spanish for the hill and thats where its at.

Honestly this is no where near Mexican food, youll come more satisfied out of taco bell than here just saying, very disappointing. I guess the only good thing you can point out is thats its a nice location for a date night but still food wise its poor quality

Service is great, I wish the salsa and the food were better. Its almost impossible to find really good Mexican food in DC. There are a few upscale places, but then you are getting a different sort vibe, price point, and cuisine.

The food here is awesome! The specials were excellent! Even chicken was well done! Chips and salsa with our entree. Good service, but a skimpy wine selection with no free refills on soda.
