Tucked away in a shopping center on the edges of downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park, is El Golfo. Unassuming decor with two dining areas and a bar against the wall belie a kitchen that pushes out quality (if not always the most inspired) Mexican and Salvadoran food. The Mexican food isnt bad, and mostly serviceable. The Salvadoran specialties are all intriguing and well done. Lots of great grilled chicken, beef and fish dishes, all at affordable priceys. Drinks arent expensive and come strong, so watch your step. Staff is very friendly and eager to get you whatever you need. Parking isnt problematic (theres a sizeable surface lot), and there are PLENTY of bus lines that will get you from DTSS to there if you dont want to drive. A nice break from the food options in DTSS

The food was ok; however, the service was so lacking and the prices were inflated for the quality that these failures pretty much will keep me from ever returning. Even though the restaurant was mostly empty, our party was ignored for most of the evening. Perhaps it was an off night, but first impressions are too powerful to take first-time customers for granted.

This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that really feels connected to the community. Good place to go for standard Mexican fare like tacos, enchiladas, burritos etc. But also has some great Mexican and Latin American dishes as well. Staff are also wonderful.

This is my spot. Happy Hour from 2pm-8pm...$3 Happy Hour Menu. The mussels and margaritas are great but when you order the mussels ask for rice to go with it because you are not going to want to throw away the soup the mussels come in.

Great place for happy hour which starts from 4pm to 8pm. The food and margaritas are on point. The service was friendly, warm and prompt. The place looked over clean, nice decor, and calm atmosphere.

Nice staff but the establishment doesnt handle a rush very well. A little pricey good not so amazing but very good food. Childrens meals include desert! Karaoke nights are totally worth it!

My family eats here pretty regularly and we love it. The staff is so nice and the food is delicious. Most times we go, the manager does magic tricks that entertain my kids. We love it!
