I was pleasantly surprised by the diners environment. It is more upscale than your typical NJ diner. I also very much enjoyed my breakfast. The food tasted great and was made with quality ingredients. HOWEVER, the service here is the worst service I may have ever experienced in all my years dining out. I explained to the waiter that I could not find what I wanted on the menu. He asked me what I wanted. I told him I just wanted an omelette with 1 pancake. He said no problem. I can just charge you for an omelette and add on 1 pancake. That sounded great to me. I somehow knew though that what he was going to do is charge me for 2 full entrees. That is exactly what he did. He brought out an omelette with all the sides that I didnt order and he brought out an entire stack of pancakes. I then get the bill and it is $23.00. They charged me $7.00 to add blueberries and pecans to my pancakes. They charged me $1.50 to add cheese to my omelette. Also, they charged me for 2 full entrees. I explained to the manager how this went down. I explained what I wanted and what the waiter indicated to me upon ordering. She immediately defended the waiter and treated more rudely than I have ever been treated before. She said "sir, its on the menu". Do you want me to show you?" I said no, I agree with you that these prices are on the menu but I didnt want to pay for 2 full entrees for 1 person. This is what I explained to the waiter and he said the pancake would be an add-on. She then begins to ask me "have you ever purchased pecans from a grocery store before? They are very expensive." I said yes. In fact I purchase pecans on a weekly basis. I purchase organic, sprouted pecans at $13.00 per pound. You put 7 pecans in my pancake and charged me $3.50 on top of 2 full entrees. It was the tone in her voice and the look on her face that really made this an unpleasant experience. I wasnt even looking to get a free meal out of this. I just wanted them to admit they made a mistake by misleading me to pay for 2 full entrees for 1 person when I explained upon ordering that was not what I wanted. I KNOW full well I could have ordered 2 entrees to get what I wanted, but I didnt want to spend that. The waiter assured me he could just "add-on" a pancake to omelette. In any case, I paid the check and left. My friend goes to pay his check and the manager starts in on him. Wow, youre friend is something else huh. He got mad because we charged him for something that was on the menu. I cannot believe she started in on my friend and then ruined his experience as well. I will never return to this restaurant and I do not recommend anyone go here. Youll be treated like a criminal and pay for 2 times the amount of food that you actually want to order.

Candylwyck is my personal favourite local diner. Their food has a certain sense of refinement that is lacking in the cuisine found at other nearby establishments with a similar price point. The service is great and full of fun, personable waiters and waitresses. If you like Buffalo stuff, I recommend the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. The Loaded Fries are quite good, too! 12/28/15 visit: lowering my rating from 5 stars to 2 stars. Arrived, and was the only one waiting to be seated. The hostess took my name down. A few minutes later an older couple walks in and then the hostess adds their name to the list as well. Once a table opens up, the older gentleman who is often near the front of the restaurant comes up and seats the older couple without looking at the list of consulting the hostess before us at a much larger/more comfortable table than I ended up getting. Not that this was a huge deal, but I did feel somewhat disrespected (older people being given preferential treatment vs. Younger; he just FELT like they should be seated first without looking at who was here first) and is also indicative of the professionalism displayed by this guy (who I presume is the owner). He should leave hosting duties to the host, and probably also leave all billing to someone else too (he struggles at math, even with a calculator. I once saw him spend a solid 5 minutes trying to figure out what half of $22.22 was WITH a calculator, and thats just the tip of the iceberg). Afterwards, the waitress took down our order incorrectly and brought our Spaghetti Milanese instead of Spaghetti Bolognese, which is fine - mistakes happen. However, in order to get the correct order, we were request to "describe what we are looking for" to two separate people to, I guess, prove we know what Spaghetti Bolognese is? Not sure really, just feeling a bit disrespected on more than a few fronts.

I just had a pleasant breakfast here at the Candlewyck Diner. The food and the service was acceptable. However, There seems to be a lack of communication among the staff, as well as an unprofessional management. My friend Phil didnt see the combination of food that he would have liked on the menu, so he politely asked the waiter if he could provide him with an omelette and pancakes. Phil was well aware that he could simply order two breakfasts with all that is included in each, but was hoping to combine just those two items. The waiter replied "Yes, we can do that", implying that they would supply him with a plate consisting of an omelette and pancakes. The four of us at the table all had the same consensus that that was what was going to happen, based on our waiters answer. Instead what happened was he brought Phil two full orders with all that is included in each. And then of course when the check came, he was charged for two full plates of breakfast. Again, Phil was clearly aware that he could simply order two full breakfasts, he asked his question to see if this diner would bring him this combination of items. And the waiter stated clearly that they could. We were all taken aback when Phil was brought two full breakfasts that cost him more than $23. And to top it all off, upon paying, I was practically scolded by the manager about my friend being displeased with his experience. I explained to her exactly why we were not satisfied, and she proceeded to argue with me for a full two minutes. Never have I experienced a restaurant acting unprofessional on this level. We will never return to this establishment, and I recommend staff is reprimanded for treating customers this poorly.

While the food and atmosphere here has generally been good, they really need to work on the quality of their service. This mornings meal was the last straw after several visits. Heres how this latest visit played out: we get seated at the table and right off the bat the table has patches of sticky honey on it, which we ask to be cleaned up. We then order a breakfast burrito, and it comes without the regular jalapeños it usually has. Bland and tasteless! Our water glasses are now empty and will continue to be so throughout the entire meal. We ask the server to bring an extra couple of plates for the waffles that are on the table. He forgets. Upon a second reminder, he brings ONE plate (meanwhile the waffles are now cold since he has taken an eternity). We say we wanted TWO plates, not one. He says "are you sure?" and begins to try and convince us multiple times that we can do with one. Talk about laziness. After we keep telling him we want two plates, he finally gives in after rudely looking into the sky and proceeds brings the second plate. Meanwhile we take the new plate he brought and happen to turn it upside down, only to find disgusting leftover pieces of tomato and food stuck on the underside. Later, upon getting the second plate, we reach for the mini containers of butter to spread on the waffles and find that several of them are empty- they have all been used! We ask a different waiter to bring us more butter. Meanwhile, water glasses are still empty. There simply isnt any excuse for this level of horrible service and the manager should either do something about it or be replaced with perhaps a 12 year old who would probably do a better job managing the service.
