Pros: good margaritas Cons: 1) rude, inattentive service 2) untruthful about menu descriptions 3) food was mediocre at best 4) "couldnt" split checks 5) stole from everyone who paid with card* I planned to never return based on Cons #1-4, but #5 is what encouraged this terrible review. *upon return to discuss the overcharge. I was told I owed them $95 because of tax. (Tax was only $45 so whether they were telling us the truth or not, their math doesnt add up.) At oje point in the conversation, I asked, "wouldnt it be easier to split checks?" He said "thats too much work." I said "well wouldnt that be easier than having customers return angry about an over charge?" He then tells me to never return and continues to interrupt me when I try to discuss it with him.

I have been going to La Plaza since 2004 and it has never disappointed. In fact, I think the food has gotten better. Ive eaten multiple times at Banana Cafe, Las Placitas and La Loma(ita), and La Plaza is my favorite, both for the freshness of the food and the family-owned feel. The owner, Henry, has been known to come over to chat, and even to serve complimentary Tequila to finish off the meal. Ive hesitated to spread the word because I like being able to get in immediately or after a short wait. Growing up in Texas, I treasure my Mexican food. However, when I saw a negative review, I felt compelled to correct the record. Btw, I like the burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas, and recently, we started with some quacameole, and it is divine.

Every time I have been here the service is awful. I usually go with a big group of people from work and always request to pay for my food and drinks separately up front when I order. I have always tipped well and thank the staff multiple times for the convienence of letting me pay for my food separately. Despite trying hard to an easy customer and demonstrate my appreciation, the staff flat out ignore me when I tell them thank you and give me dirty looks every time I come in. After four times of this type of service I have to say that I will no longer frequent this establishment which is truly a shame because the food and margaritas are so good.

Down in Washington DC for a visit to celebrate my dads birthday and decided to eat there. We been walk all day and just want to have a nice decent meal. Our group 14 people. Terrible mistake, service was awful. Waiters were slow and our food order took forever to come out. My husband found a hair in his rice, informed the owner and he just ask how long the hair was. Really! Apparently he doesnt care about the customers. No discount or apologies. We spent over $250. Food wasnt worth it. Food wasnt good. McDonald wouldve have been a better place to eat. I dont recommend this restaurant all.

Excellent overall experience. Friendly and attentive / respectful staff. Almost never a wait for a table, since there is plenty of room. Dining outside on Pennsylvania Ave. SE (600 block) is awesome in the spring and cooler summer days. The food -- wow, always top notch. My favorite are the fajitas supremas and the mar y tiera (shrimp and steak, with a delicious sauce and steamed broccoli). Try the margaritas as well... I hear they are the best in DC. When in town I always try to visit if at all possible, with my DC posse.

Came here with my family for the 1st time today. It will be my last time coming here. Service is awful. My dad asked for napkins, for the family, the guy only brought 4 pieces of napkins. They brought the tacos and found the meat still pink on the inside. We was the 2nd customer to arrived and the server was attending quicker to the other customers, that arrived way later. I dont recommend this place to anyone. My brother in law told the manager about the service, he acted like he didnt care.

Loved this place.me and my fiance wanted to grab a quick bite,we seen place and gave it a try. ...food was Awesome! wait staff was Awesome and helpful( we dont speak Spanish) also they made us feel so Comfy! The price was good also we both had a meal,drink,and my fiance had a drink from bar, we even took his mom something and paid about 50bucks.this place was so relaxing and the chip and salsa was Yummy! We are going back this week!

Low-key restaurant with excellent food. We took the Metro out of the National Mall area to eat in this part of the city. There were very few people in the place when we were there for lunch but the service was attentive, although slow. We didnt mind since we were visiting at a leisurely pace but maybe not the best choice if you are in a hurry. They also do take out orders and several people came in to pick up food while we were there.

What a wonderful surprise in our neighborhood! We noticed that the patio was always packed, so we thought wed give it a try. Outstanding service, great prices and great food. I had the Mariscos Azteca, which was fresh and simple...just perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned seafood without any heavy sauce. Yum!

After searching everywhere in Capitol Hill and Eastern Market for Piña Coladas to no avail, La Plaza delivered! And theyre generous proportions, and delicious! Cant speak for the food but the drinks seem on point!

I love this place, we eat here all the time. The margaritas are excellent and the prices are fair. Parking on Penn in the evenings is not an issue and its close to Eastern Market metro.

They have the best chile con carne in the District. They also have the greatest service, food, and decor. We love the neighborhood-y feel too. The food is DELICIOUS and oh so fresh.

The food was good but the service very slow for what was an uncrowded Sunday afternoon. My tamale and pupusa were terrific but we had to wait a long time (almost an hour) for our food.

Food was reasonable but unremarkable. Bill came with charge for an extra beer we did not order or consume. Seating is too congested resulting in frequent disruptions,bumps etc.
