I have been there twice in the past few weeks. The food is great, the restaurant is spotless and the wait-staff and bartenders are very friendly. Cant ask for more than that. Will be going there next week with about 4 other people. I will be interested to see what they have to say. I will report back after my visit with them. OK. Here is my update. I know, I know I gave it 5 stars before, but now its 2 stars. Four of us went for dinner last Saturday. The food was very, very good. Here comes the big BUT. The service was somewhere between God-awful and non-existent. The waitress could have cared less about us, or anyone else for that matter. The food was very slow coming out of the kitchen. It took over two hours to eat and get out of there. Just to note that there were no appetizers ordered nor did anyone get coffee or desert (that probably would have added another hour to the ordeal). I know the word ordeal sounds harsh, but thats what it felt like - an ordeal, not an enjoyable dining experience and in the end, we could not wait to get out of there. My recommendation if you want to go there would be to sit at the bar and order take-out (its going to take 45 minutes for the food to come out anyway). Thats what I did the first time when I gave it such high praise. I just want to be clear - the food is really, really good. If the kitchen and the wait staff could get their act together and turn the table quicker, it would be much better. Sorry, but its just not worth sitting there for the better part of two and a half hours. Also, dont expect your drink glass to refreshed promptly either.

The food is fair to good. I had lunch one day and dinner on another occasion. The first time, the food was much tastier than the second however. But each time I was confronted with lifeless, pink, store-bought-looking, tasteless tomatoes - which is more than ironic considering it is August - the peak of harvest. Anywhere within five miles, the restaurant management can find vegetable stands or farmers markets selling cheap, delicious, blood-red, juicy tomatoes! The tepid, wilted lettuce combined with these sorry tomatoes surprised and disappointed me in a restaurant claiming to serve fresh Mexican food. The environment and decor is nice enough, and the wait staff are smiling and quite pleasant, but forgetful. During my first visit, for example, my sister and I had to wait too long before being waited on and served. On the second visit, I requested my dinner to be packaged because the serving was huge!! However, when I got home - the waitress (who was very sweet) had left out the tortillas and a few other essentials from my dinner plate. I think this restaurant has a lot of potential; they just have to work out a few kinks. I hope they do, because I love good, fresh Mexican food. .

Third time- no charm! First visit went well, food, service. 2nd visit fajitas for two- the quality was good but very small portion, service was bad. Our (last visit) last night- 20 min wait was 35 mins! Then they paged us and we waited 10 more minutes! There was two empty tables so I asked if the 3 hostess standing there doing nothing for 3 minutes- could clean the table because Im standing holding my 18 month old son whos starving by this point- they say "oh yea we asked somone to clean it." What mgmt allows 3 girls to stand around while dirty tables are sitting empty and the line is out the door.? NEXT: my beef chimichanga was very small, and the greasy beef (tums) was less quality than a frozen bag of chimis from Aldis. The place is very loud and servers give dirty looks if the isle ways are congested. Try putting some benches outside for people to sit! One server came out of the bar and banged into my shoulder hard and never said excuse me- to him I say - lucky day for you I was holding my son! Some positives: My girls fish tacos- were great, beer cold, server Adam did very well and was on point!

I have been to many Mexican restaurants from around the country. I usually order the very simple taco salad. It came to my table as more like taco soup. My wife ordered guacamole and sour cream, she didnt get either, she had to ask again, didnt even get guac they charged us for it anyway, our waitress was not attentive, the manager after hearing our dissatisfaction, didnt even offer an apology or explanation. We werent even expecting comps or anything. Just a simple apology for the lack of service and the poorly cooked taco salad. Never again will we come here.

We live in Texas where the options for Tex-Mex and traditional Mexican cuisine are bountiful. Were here in CT visiting family and were looking for a place to buy some fresh tortillas. We ended up sitting down for lunch and the food and drinks were excellent! Chips and salsa were brought out warm and the classic Margheritas on the rocks were very authentic and packed a punch. The restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere with an authentic feel. If youre looking for good Mexican food in CT I recommend Mexicali!

Went in with my husband for the first time Saturday night. He ordered burger with rice and beans. His beans were puréed and didnt like flavor. Burger was nice and juicy but found a hair in the meat. Gave him another one to go. I ordered shrimp tacos. They had no seasonings and it was tasteless. The rice and black beans really turned me off. Something about the texture and had no flavor. I didnt eat my meal and left very unhappy. Darn, I was really looking forward to some good food.

Great Lunch Specials. Enchilada Suiza with chicken was very good. The warm chips and homemade salsa was a great touch. The bar was very clean with the just right lunch time lighting. Plenty of lunch specials to pick from. The server Lupe was very friendly and professional.. The kitchen was very fast. Looking forward to a repeat visit and trying the hotter salsa. Easy access and ample parking.

Some of the best Mexican food in the area. Mexicali offers a nice balance between traditional Mexican offerings and Mexican-American staples. Food quality is consistent and you can be sure that once youve found a favorite on their menu, itll be great each and every time. The food and service put other area Mexican restaurants to shame.

Finally tried it and pleasantly surprised. Fun atmosphere.... amazing Margaritas....salsa/pico is fresh and delicious. Even my son who doesnt eat Mexican food said his bacon cheeseburger was awesome. Another day we got a combo meal to go and it was just as fantastic. Will become regulars here!

Very good food and excellent service. Started off with a habenaro margarita with a spicy salt rim. We then proceeded to enjoy the chips and salsa with a Cadillac margarita(Very nice). Dinner was a Baja chimi and chicken chimichurri tacos. Was a nice meal and will be back... Gracias Mexicalli!

The food is more Americanized version of Mex cuisine but inside decorations are beautiful. I was in the area so stopped by for dinner but would definitely not drive out of my way to go there again. It is a typical Tex Mex restaurant. Portions are big and they have a happy hour!!!
